25.01.2022 Whilst there may have been lots of shenanigans happening back in Melbourne given the silly season is upon us and the Spring Carnival having just gone... Mark and Sue have had a wonderful trip to the hill tribe regions of Northern Thailand... So looking forward to catching up with them as soon as we can and wishing them a safe trip back home to Melbourne.... after their terrific hard work and dedication to raising funds to help purchase new school uniforms; shoes; underwear an...d tshirts for over 80 young primary school hill tribe children we help support.... THANK You to everyone involved in helping these children and especially thank you Pramote and Thak, Lorel and Tony for arranging this weeks deliveries....xx Mark Jessup Sue Jessup Pramote Eua-amnuay Thakdanai Eua-amnuay... PS PS: ALSO thank you to each and everyone of you out there who help many many other under privileged children from many other parts of our world....our children are our future, the very least we can do is to give them hope!

23.01.2022 Thanks Nell and the ladies from Healsville who carefully make the Days for Girls Bags. Gratefully received by the older girls at KAENoi.

23.01.2022 Awesome work folks...loving all pics and updates. X

22.01.2022 Last nights Lantern Festival saw hundreds of small flower boats being sent down the river and lanterns sent up to the gods.

22.01.2022 Visited Ban Pa Bong School today delivering 83 new uniforms, socks and underwear for children and their families who have so little. So many happy faces .... how many times do we smell a new pair of socks or underwear (?) ... these kids did as soon as they were given out. Uniform shirts, skirts and army day shorts fitted, will have their name embroidered on them so they don’t get lost - no matter which country you live in, schools have many uniforms in lost property without names! Thank you Happy Hands supporters, friends and colleagues for your kind donations towards this tiny little school trying to do so much with so little!

21.01.2022 Thanks so much Michelle Gates of the Ferntree Gully Victoria Chapter of www.daysforgirls.org/australia for all the great work that you and Nel de Betue do and many thanks to Mark Jessup and Sue Jessup for fitting these kits in your luggage on this return trip to the hill tribe children. Here are some of the wonderful young girls living in Home of Hope (formerly these children were living with the Monk or at the LOC orphanage in Kae Noi) receiving their Days for Girls Kits.......no doubt Sue, some of the young girls in the school you were volunteering this week (where you and Mark arranged the new school uniforms and underwear) will need some of these kits very shortly.... wondering who's suitcase we can fill??? For those of you who have not heard of this great organisations.....Days for Girl is committed to supporting a girl throughout her entire lifecycle, from providing her with a DfG Kit, to teaching her health education, to offering training for her when she grows older, so that she can produce DfG Kits and support hygiene needs in her community.....

21.01.2022 Visited some villages today - the homes of Mr Terrawatt’s children. Everyone has a week off school due to the Chiang Rai National Sport Competition.

19.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Happy New Year It’s been a while since I posted any updates or photos, so much occurring on the ground in Northern Thailand and a bit too much happening on the ground here in Melbourne for Jovo and myself. But we have a new year to jump into and why not a better way to start off a new year than to share some Christmas cheer from Mr Teerewat’s magnificent hostel in Northern Thailand.... Below are fantastic photos of some of the nourishing vegetables growing at Mr T’s and some marvelous photos of the children receiving gifts from funds raised here in Melbourne by Happy Hands supporters Thanks so much for all the great work that you do for the hill tribe communities Mr T . And a huge thank you to all our Happy Hands Supporters and in particular to Mrs Bep Schuyt for all your terrific efforts in raising money by selling your hand made cards in the hills of outer Melbourne. You can see from these smiling faces how much joy you have brought to so many.. Looking forward to all the new year has to bring our families here in Australia and to our families in the hill tribes of Northern Thailandxxx Nel de Betue Sally Piper Pramote Eua-amnuay

16.01.2022 Pramote teaching the little children a funny dance.. The kids thought Pramote was so funny

14.01.2022 Wonderful news in from northern Thailand...the third stage of Leadership Home is to be officially opened on this Saturday...Jovo and I would have loved to have been able to attend this great occasion but sadly wont be able to be there...in the middle of selling our home/moving. Wishing everyone on the ground a successful opening as I am sure it will be, given the wonderful team behind these communities... Our love to all xxx

12.01.2022 Happy Hands sponsors have enabled an entire community to benefit from the purchase of a rice mill. The Suwitt family, who support 20 children in Prao, in Northern Thailand, can now mill the rice from their own rice paddy on site helping to feed their children. The friends and neighbors of the Suwitts can also use the mill for their own produce feeding their own families and those in need. The children also learn about the process as the culture is passed on from one generation to the next.

11.01.2022 Great to see one of our boys following in our charitable footsteps...well done Elliott.

10.01.2022 Wow- we received almost 6 minutes coverage on the National News about the opening of Leadership Home Junior. Thanks to Brian Rooke our new hostel for 72 little ...children is open. The General of the Thai Army came to the event along with his 6 body guards plus 300+ guests. Guest came from Australia, Canada, USA, Japan, along with parents/family of the children, village leaders, Rotarians and other Thai officials such as the municipality mayor. The children sang and danced, many people spoke and we ate delicious Thai and hill tribe food. We also opened the new multipurpose building at the original Leadership Home (200m down the road from Leadership Home Junior). We have almost 130 children at LH and LHJunior - thriving, happy and safe. If you can open your heart and your wallet and sponsor a child - just $40 a month and every cent reaches the hostel. email - [email protected] .....sawasdee kar ...Dr Lorel Mayberry President Borderless Friendship Western Australia - BFWA

09.01.2022 It was a long weekend here in Melbourne, as all you who live in Australia would know, but for those in Chiang Dao in Northern Thailand it was a big weekend of celebrations there also..Nothing at all to do with the Queen’s birthday.. The new multipurpose room and 3rd Children’s Dorm at Leadership Home were officially opened. This was a very exciting ceremonythis new dorm will house over 60 young kinder aged children, the first of its kind for these hill tribe communities...as most of the hostels administered by Borderless Friendship are homes for primary school and secondary school children.. Jovo and I were saddened that we could not be there to celebrate this milestone event with the children. Again, another tremendous effort by Paramote and his team on the ground, Lorel and her team in Perth and truly, the bigheartedness of our dear friend Brian has made these dreams a reality for so so many hill tribe communities..THANK YOU from all of us here at Happy Hands for your unyielding kindness and generosity Extra special good news in, more agricultural land has been purchased hoping to be used as a high yielding Avocado farm to help all the hostels administered by Borderless Friendship to be self-reliant..Just amazing the changes in these beautiful people’s lives over the last 5 years. Pictures below include some wonderful updates from Mr Teerewats Hostel .so many happy smiling children’s faces.be they at work in the paddy fields planting the seasons new rice crop; or planting seedlings in the terraced vegetable gardens; or sitting on their beautiful clean tiled hostel floor eating some pleasing healthy food...or showing off the new beds and toilets in the boys dormitory just gorgeous to see.... LAST but not LEAST.a big thank you to all our sponsors and supporters without your acceptance of our cry for help 5 years ago.perhaps it may be a different story for so many of these children. So thank you all from the bottom of our hearts xxxx Pramote Brian

03.01.2022 Just had to change our Cover Photo...to see these smiling faces...all because they got new underwear and school uniform...fantastic...

01.01.2022 I am not a death statistic Born before the great depression I have experienced much on mother earth Some say I have seen all there is to see... From my very first day since birth I saw the Berlin wall go up Hatred for so many was in store Life as I knew it had changed for ever After the end of the 2nd world war I even tried LSD and marijuana In my day it was seen as cool Now so many children are addicted Before they reach high school Words of wisdom I have imparted To my family and those closest to me Live life well and collect your moments There are so many things for you to see I had married and raised my tribe Survived the good times and the bad Yet somehow my message it was lost And that’s what makes me really sad So many battles I have faced and won Real and mental scars make me strong Now forsaken by YOU my grand children How did I get my message oh so wrong I see you marching on my television Life’s passage be it a youthful rite Unfortunately your actions have consequences Choose wisely the battles that you fight I never had a say in many things A retirement village did seem wise I am too old to outrun the Covid virus Seeing my mates die before my eyes This virus is but a cold to you It won’t kill ME I hear you cry But it’s invisible so contagious If I catch it I WILL DIE! I was fortunate enough in my lifetime To witness the demolition of the Berlin wall Surviving terrorism even climate change Leaving my legacy for you all I don’t fear death or dying myself It is those of you I will leave behind Will get no chance to say goodbye It will really mess with your mind From the moment I was born My body in slow progress began to die Give me a chance to live out my life As it passes in the blinking of an eye Poems by Jovo
