19.01.2022 WIN number 24 in a row, congratulations to our OZ women.

19.01.2022 "Reflections of the Hawkesbury" public artwork, created by community for the Deerubbin Centre outdoor space. Locals could be seen this morning at Windsor’s Deerubbin Centre enjoying the spring sunshine, fantastic tunes and a coffee with mental health worker Michelle Hookham’s popular program, Be & Co. Working in partnership with Wendy Wilkins of the NSW Government’s Transition To Work Participants and friends from Harmony fm community radio, the benefit of social connection a...nd face-to-face contact is an important focus of Michelle’s original program design. Pandemic of course brought with it the challenge of continuing to safely facilitate the Be & Co community-building gatherings earlier this year. However, the team was quick to re-route. Michelle explained, We very quickly went online and opened up a regular online get-together for Be & Co, which went very well and included our key stakeholders, people from Fitzgerald Aged Care and our good friends like Bob, who comes along to every session." As others in the community sector have found, the introduction of online options for social support programs has provided new scope, even introducing seniors in residential care to communication technology they may not previously have benefitted from. Michelle says that the success of the program can be noted particularly for residents of Fitzgerald Aged Care, whose restrictions have meant that they’ve been unable to leave their home for eight months. While the return to live and in-person events has been in place for a couple of months, the success of online gatherings has meant that the online component of the program has continued. Michelle says, One of our facilitators has been checking in with them every morning. We’ve had up to twenty people on the Zoom call through the week. What was also really lovely was seeing people overjoyed to reconnect for the first time when we returned to the Deerubbin Centre for Be & Co. There were squeals of delight, and we could see that they’d made some really meaningful friendships. They were so thrilled to see each other again. With the return of face-to-face Be & Co events, the group’s long-planned mosaic project began to take shape. Funded by Hawkesbury City Council, the creation of mosaics took place over four sessions, with residents of Fitzgerald Aged Care also getting stuck into the action. In two weeks, the resulting collection of four mosaics will be unveiled at the Deerubbin Centre, for the enjoyment of all. Michelle is excited to launch the work for public viewing, saying, Fifty-six people created a little piece each, and all the pieces came together in a lovely representation of the Hawkesbury. There’s a river motif going through the four circles, with fields flanking the river. It’s called ‘Reflections of the Hawkesbury’. It symbolises the community, expressing the notion that when we all come together, great things happen. : Rosalind Chia

18.01.2022 Today, Windsor hosted the launch of a water safety campgain that primarily has a focus on international students who choose to use our waterways, both coastal a...nd inland. This campaign is a partnership between the NSW Police Force, NSW Government, Royal Life Saving Australia and Surf Life Saving Australia. The launch attracted corporate and community interest as well as Consular represenation from Nepal. Unfortunately, members of this land locked country lost people by drowning in New South Wales recently and their government is keen to educate other Nepalese people on water safety. Windsor was choosen as Hawkesbury Police Area Command is active in the promotion of water safety initiatives, which are well supported by NSW SES Hawkesbury Unit. The Hawkesbury PAC Commander, Superintendent Stewart, performed the role of Master of Ceremonies for todays event, which was also attended by Councillor Nathan Zamprogno representing the Hawkesbury Mayor and Robyn Preston MP - Member for Hawkesbury

10.01.2022 This is quite a long post, so please read in its entirety As you know we have people come from all over to our hamper days and assistance on Wednesdays and S...aturdays, these will continue as usual throughout the holiday season. As many charities close, depending on need, we may open an extra day or two. Like most of this year, we will just have to play it by ear, sometimes daily, so please do keep an eye on the page for updates and posts. Our meal services for those experiencing homelessness will remain the same and we will probably pick up a couple more, depending on other closures. Again we do not know at this stage. We have had countless enquires about Christmas hampers and presents. Unfortunately we cannot help everyone with these, so they will only be for Hawkesbury residents - details on that and how to book in, up in the next few days. As many people weekly come get assistance from us from the Blacktown, Penrith and Blue Mountains LGA's, if you know of organisations in those areas that are doing Christmas hampers and presents, please let us know, so we can refer people there. At this stage we are going to distribute our Christmas hampers and presents on Tuesday December 22nd, and that way if we have any spare for others we can distribute them December 23rd to those in need, on our usual hamper day. Just sharing thoughts and keeping you updated where we are at. Please wait until we have finalised all details about how we are going to proceed and how to book in, before contacting us. We will be needing extra volunteers (minimum 16 years old), especially with the sorting and packing and making up the Christmas hampers and also a massive working bee to sort through one of our off site large storage sheds. If you remember, just before lockdown we took on an extra storage area to strip down and back of everything not immediately needed, we thought we would only need it for a few months back then, its now been nine, there is Christmas Stock in there, and we would also like to concentrate everything so we can in the next month or so, cut that added monthly cost. Thank you for taking the time to read this very long post x
