25.01.2022 We have written the attached letter to Premier Andrews requesting that funding be allocated to design and build the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail shared path. There has been a huge upsurge in the usage of shared paths for walking, cycling and jogging for local exercise during the recent COVID-19 restrictions. Provision of safe cycling infrastructure such as the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail should be funded to create jobs and provide safe, healthy walking and cycling opportunities that have recently shown to be very important for providing resilience in local communities.

25.01.2022 The Department of Transport Team working on the feasibility study have advised that the meeting with us to review the preferred alignment for Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail has been postponed to 21 September. We have submitted the feedback provided via the webform to the project team. Your voices have been heard. Boroondara and Whitehorse Council elections are proceeding this year - postal votes close 6pm Friday 23 October. You might like to ask your local ward candidates wheth...er they support the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail. Thanks for signing the petition - there are now 1,155 supporters! 24.01.2022 Deigns for the Mont Albert/Surrey Hills level crossing removals are up. https://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au//surrey-hills-and-mont-a https://levelcrossings.vic.gov.au//project-overview-map.jpg Engage in the surveys here: https://engage.vic.gov.au/lxrp-surrey-hills-and-mont-albert

24.01.2022 Currently any cyclist wishing to ride from Knox City Shopping Centre to the Melbourne CBD on an away from traffic facility would either need to ride North along the Koonung Creek Trail alongside the Eastern Freeway (marked in blue) or South to Wellington Rd, then along the Djerring and Gardiners Creek Trail (marked Yellow). However with recent works on the southern end of the Syndal to Heatherdale Pipeline Trail, soon to be completed work on the Waverley Rail Trail and the br...and new bridge to be built where Burwood Highway crosses Dandenong Creek, the opportunity has come where the provision of just 3.5km of trail will yield a much more direct (almost 10km saved) and less hilly route for riders of all ages and abilities (marked red). There is opportunity to build along the south side of Burwood Highway by utilising the Service Road Land Island and widening footpaths. By providing this 3.5km link, it will provide access to hundreds of kilometres of trail to many residents and will significantly cut the commute length of anybody wishing to ride their bike on a safe and dedicated away from traffic facility. Many locations around Victoria have made similar use of this form of treatment and this path could be built rapidly as part of a COVID-19 recovery stimulus project. See more

13.01.2022 We have a meeting on Monday 24 August with the Department of Transport project team working on the feasibility study for the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail. We will be reviewing their preferred alignment for the trail. If you would like to provide input to the team on how you would use the trail and what is important to you please use this webform - we will send submissions on to the team.

13.01.2022 Some exciting possibilities for the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail - the unused rail easement and ghost platform 1 at Box Hill station could be used for a shared path connection to the Box Hill to Ringwood trail. Spans like those being built for the Federation Trail in Melbourne's west could provide an elevated path next to Canterbury Station and other challenging locations.

11.01.2022 DoT have got their Website up about the project, great to see some progress! https://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au//box-hill-to-hawthorn-shar

10.01.2022 A reminder that feedback to the Surrey Hills and Mont Albert Level Crossing Removal Project closes on 14 Feb 2021. You can submit your feedback online here: https://bit.ly/SurreyHills-LXR Some key points to consider making:... Underpasses are required at Union Road and Mont Albert Road for the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail (shared path) to provide safety for path users and less disruption to traffic The shared path should cross above the railway line to the west of the new premium station to align with the Department of Transport recommended route for the Hawthorn to Box Hill Trail. Overpasses are required for the shared path at Elgar Road and Canterbury Road The shared path route should be safer, more direct, efficient and appealing to users of all ages and abilities, including wheel-chair users, mobility scooters, bikes with child trailers and tandems More open space and community connections would be provided by covering the rail trench. You also can read the Boroondara BUG Boroondara Bicycle Users Group submission which provides more information on these suggestions here: http://bit.ly/BBUG-feedback-LXRP
