25.01.2022 HELLO. yes i know it’s been a while! been resting and moving slowly after all, it is the Year of the Water Buffalo (according to the Vietnamese)! in the year ahead we will be treading through muddy and murky waters, dragging our heavy hearts from last years losses, ruptures and disappointments. but what if we did not move ahead alone? what if we do not grieve alone? what if we realised that our race to be right/innocent/good was making us feel so alone? ... perhaps, just maybe, we could move together, with patience, humility and belief in our capacities. can we be strong, stubborn and relentless in our care for each other, even or especially when we fumble? image: a water dragon basking in the sun on top of some large rocks by the sea at Tweed Heads. not the same as a water buffalo in Vietnam- but channeling the same vibes!

24.01.2022 i think the list of the ways in which social workers/counsellors/AOD workers/youth workers engage in policing and social control is very long long. this is a North American based list but just as relevant here in so called Australia

21.01.2022 when i get asked what prepared me to do the work i do, i think about this human. she taught me that borders are meant to be crossed and how to cross them. she taught me about pursuing justice and equity in the face of violence and greed. she schooled me on the kind of feminism that isn’t written in any books. she introduced me buddhism that is grounded in fierce compassion. she taught me that no one is disposable. with grace, humour and humility, this human has shown me the ways to surrender not to oppression, but to love. grateful for your guidance me

18.01.2022 we are against the death sentence in this country and yet 127 kids are in solitary confinement right now whilst COVID is spreading through the workers and cells of Brisbane’s Youth Detention Centre. for the most vulnerable kids, this is a death sentence. we are all about preventing the spread of this virus and yet this is a public health catastrophe that was predictable and preventable. this state is releasing ads and money for mental health services during this pandemic an...d yet there is silence on the long-term mental and physical impacts of denying children and adults space, movement, adequate services and fresh air. what is unfolding in so-called Australia is more than misfortune and mistakes - it is state-sanctioned, institution-backed negligence, torture and killings.

16.01.2022 truth. this yr has been wild. been on manic without a pause button. and when you don’t press pause, your body presses stop. i developed an underactive thyroid, knee problems so painful it cut me from my love (playing basketball), and been feeling nauseous most mornings. truth is, i have never felt so much grief and rage in my life. death. pandemic. unrelenting collective trauma. and i felt like i had to move in the crisis, move with urgency. faster and faster. truth is, i have never felt so much love and care in my life. i feel overwhelmed by the uncontainable care and generosity shown in the midst of chaos and apocalypse. i know i need to slow tf down. i am finding the pause button. i am learning that rest is resistance and that my time, my spirt, my body is precious.

04.01.2022 things that are frequently conflated and need discerning: mediation and accountability conflict and abuse discomfort and unsafety support and solidarity ... equality and equity ‘being inclusive’ and centring the most oppressed surveillance/social control and social change one-off diversity training and lifelong (un)learning acknowledging power and shifting/relinquishing power being loyal to your organisation and being in service to your community formal qualifications and being qualified to do the job what do you reckon? anything else you would add to this list for discernment??
