23.01.2022 Happy National Women’s Health Week ... Ladies, your health is the focus this week... . . Day 3 - Hydration - Water Health... Research has suggested that staying hydrated keeps your brain and memory sharp. It helps to keep your mood stable, your motivation steady and problems more easy to tackle. Staying hydrated doesn’t just impact your brain, but also your body. Below are 6 ways water benefits your body’s health. 1. Water helps to cleanse your body. Your kidneys need water to filter waste from the blood and excrete it in urine. Keeping hydrated may also help prevent urinary tract infections etc and stops toxins to build up in your body. 2. Water helps prevent dry mouth Dry mouth can cause bad breath and/or an unpleasant tasteand can even promote cavities. Keeping your mouth hydrated will prevent the dry mouth feel. 3. Water promotes cardiovascular health. Dehydration helps to lower your blood volume, so your heart must work harder to pump the reduced amount of blood and get enough oxygen to your cells, which makes everyday activities more difficult and tiring. 4. Water keeps your body cool. Your body releases heat by expanding blood vessels close to the skin’s surface, resulting in more blood flow and more heat dissipated into the air. However if you’re dehydrated it takes a higher environmental temperature to trigger blood vessels to widen, so you stay hotter longer. 5. Water helps muscles and joints work better. When you’re well hydrated, the water inside and outside the cells of contracting muscles provides adequate nutrients. Dehydration may lead to muscle fatigue. Water is also important for lubricating joints. 6. Water keeps skin supple. When a person is severely dehydrated, skin is less elastic causing a more saggy skin appearance. Please remember to check with your health professional if you feel you are possibly dehydrated. . . . 18.01.2022 Happy National Women’s Health Week ... Ladies, your health is the focus this week... . Day 6- Posture Assessments and Advice... Posture Posture is how you sit or stand. It means your body is positioned correctly and the weight is evenly balanced so that the skeleton, muscles and ligaments aren’t overstretched or strained. Good posture makes sure your spine has three curves and the muscles on each side of the spine are strong and well balanced. It will prevent pain in your back, make you more mobile and less tired. Good posture doesn’t mean standing stiff to attention. It means you are loose and flexible. Problems with posture can also be caused by conditions that weaken one or more of the structures that support the body, which include the spine, back muscles, hips, shoulders, neck, and the abdominal wall. Therefore poor posture should be managed to minimise the harmful effects they can have on your body / mind over time. Have you ever though of paying for a professional to give you advice on your posture? * A therapist will give you regular exercises and stretching, ergonomic assessments, individual posture assessments and teach you how to pay attention to the way your body feels. * It’s important to get advice on your individual posture. No two postures are the same. Specific advice may be able to improve your posture and reduce any pain/ injury associated faster. 3 starting tips - Keep weight in your heels and keep you knees soft .. by bringing some focus into your heels it will allow your body to engage supporting muscles like core and glutes which will have relax your lower back. - Stretch your body in the morning straight away / keep moving throughout the day - get up out of the chair as much as you can. - Lifting your chest upward is a small movement to try that will help your mood. By lifting upward in the chest it will automatically make you feel taller and more positive. Please remember to check with your GP before undertaking any postural tips if you have a current acute injury. . www.hfwise.com.au for personalised coaching - #Pilates, #Health Coaching, #Myotherapy #Stretching / #Posture Assessment
