25.01.2022 Thank you to everyone for sharing and supporting Diabetes Educators around Australia we now have the ability to use telehealth to support our patients over these next few months while we battle against #covid19 . This is going to make such a differnce to so many peoples lives! Thanks to the government As of next week I will be reducing my hours to monday & tuesday mornings as its getting quieter and quieter because people are doing what they are meant to be doing #stayathome which is great!! Stay safe xx

25.01.2022 Thoughts on this??

24.01.2022 Is this a glimer of hope for those battling Type 1 diabetes each day? Transplanting islet cells into the pancreas to make it produce insulin again seems to be logical. Unfortunatly in this brief segment they dont discuss the success rate. Previously patients who are at end stage renal failure have been able to recieve a pancreas and kidney transplant. I have seen some success rates with transplants but also some failures. Hopefully the islet cell transplant is successful and is offered to all with type 1 diabetes!!

22.01.2022 Absolutely amazing that we have a support service like this

21.01.2022 Shopping when your hungry is never a good idea! To help avoid snacking on unhealthy foods avoid buying them in the first place. If they are not easily accessible you will be less likely to make unhealthy choices which will help with weight loss and improve your glycaemic control.

19.01.2022 Since the beginning of the year ive been waiting to see the Freestyle libre glucose monitoring system be subsidised by the NDSS unfortunatly we are still waiting. If you have diabetes and want to see the Libre subsidised or any other diabetes products please fill out this survey!!!

19.01.2022 As a mother this really pulls at the heart strings . Parenting is hard enough let alone raising a child with type 1 diabetes. We all hope with the continued research into type 1 diabetes that one day there will be a cure but until then think of all those living with type 1 diabetes and those who care for them

14.01.2022 Whos up for a quick 2 minute diabetes risk assessment???? Follow the questions below on the AUSDRISK then add up you score at the end. Did you score intermediate risk? High risk? Well its time to act now and help reduce your risk of developing diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can be prevented if we take the right lifestyle steps to improve our health!

13.01.2022 Im sure we are all reaching out for extra fluids during this heat wave! But is what your drinking really that good for you? When im sitting down with a patient talking about their diet we will look at the foods they eat but also what fluids they are having. It can amaze you how much sugar can be in some of these drinks that alot of people are having each and every day. Being mindful thats its not just foods that can impact your diabetes but what your are drinking. Ensure you drink plenty of water each day and limiting sugary drinks will help improve your blood glucose levels and help assist with weight loss.

12.01.2022 It amazes me how many people dont know what type of diabetes they have. There are a number of different types of diabetes but type 2 and type 1 are more commonly seen. The ways in which we manage both can be very different from one another. If your not sure what type you have make sure you ask your GP or DE.

11.01.2022 Check out these great exercise routines from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. We may not being able to attend gyms, participate in our group fitness class or do our favourite sport at the moment due to Covid 19 but we can still be active while at home and its so important that we continue to do so whether you have diabetes or not ! Stay safe #covid19 #diabetesmanagement

One day of the year its acceptable to eat chocolate for breakfast its so important to be mindful of the sugar content of foods we eat but also important to enjoy ourselves on these special days. Everything in moderation is good for your health and your soul! Its absolutely amazing to think how much sugar are in these amazingly tasty things

04.01.2022 Diabetes does not stop for anyone not even for #covid19 We need the government to help us support individuals with diabetes through this time by giving us Diabetes Educators access to #telehealth. This is vital! Im extremely concered for the physical and mental health of my patients at this time they need all the support they can get and even better within their own homes! @greghuntmp we need your help! #covid19 #coronavirus #adea #diabeteseducator #type1diabetes #type2diabetes #healthcrisis2020

02.01.2022 Lets Talk About Sex! We openly talk about complications from diabetes such as feet, eyes and kidneys but we dont talk enough about sexual dysfunction. Unfortunately for many men (men are greatest at risk) this is a problem that is impacting their lives and can be extremely frustrating and difficult to speak about.... Erecticle dysfunction can occur due to damage to the nerves and circulation to the penis. This is usually from having elevated glucose levels for a prolonged period of time. The best way to help prevent erectile dysfunction is to keep glucose within a normal range. Make sure you talk to your GP or DE if you are experiencing problems its a topic thats needs to be address more frequently.
