22.01.2022 About two weeks since I went to dog park in Port I am disgusted at all the dog shit every where the smell is just horrible There are busted toys around torn open cardboard drink containers No excuse for this Keep this up the park could get closed down ... There is a big roll of poop bags there and a bin USE THEM you know who you are clean up after yourself and your dogs Great way of spreading disease amongst all pets If you don't want to clean up then don't use it have respect for other that need to and want to go there Here is photo of the bags just incase you don't know what they look like Best to take your own that way your never be without them See more

11.01.2022 Ehrlichiosis in Dogs Tick prevention is already important to our dogs of the Pilbara, however a new disease that has been identified is now bringing it to the f...orefront. Ehrlichiosis is an emerging disease that has been identified in a number of dogs in the Kimberleys and more recently one dog in the Pilbara. The bacteria which causes Ehrlichiosis is carried by the Brown Dog tick which is commonly found across the northern regions of Australia. If an infected tick attaches and feeds on a dog, this is how the infection enters. Clinical signs to look for include: - Lethargy - Swollen lymph nodes - Decreased appetite - Fever - Unusual bleeding or bruising - Weight loss To help prevent Ehrlichiosis occurring - Treat your dogs for ticks regularly, as well as their bedding and the yard so they are not reinfected by their environment. - Avoid taking dogs into tick-infested areas. - Check your dogs for ticks regularly (especially around the neck, head, ears, armpits and belly) and carefully remove any ticks. This is important as tick treatments may not always kill the tick fast enough to stop the dog becoming infected. If you find a tick, the Karratha Vet Hospital can advise on the best methods of tick removal. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) is conducting surveillance for the disease and has conditions on dogs moving out of northern WA to reduce the risk of the disease spreading to southern WA. Infection with Ehrlichiosis is a notifiable disease in Australia and must be reported. If you think a dog has ehrlichiosis, call Karratha Vet Hospital on 9185 1600 or the Emergency Animal Disease hotline on 1800 675 888.

03.01.2022 Leash your furry friends to keep out flatback friends safe this turtle season! Community members are reminded that all dogs must be kept on a leash at all times... in public, unless a sign specifically states off leash area. If Town Rangers see a dog off leash in any area other than specified as off leash, the owner will be issued with a $200 on the spot fine. The only locations which permit off leash dogs are the Spoilbank Reserve and Canine Club in Port Hedland, and the Marie Marland Oval Temporary Dog Park in South Hedland. It is now flatback turtle season, which means turtles will be nesting and traversing along Port Hedland’s coastal areas. Off leash dogs can damage nests and potentially attack turtles trying to nest.
