19.01.2022 Prevent mould growing in your home this winter! Mould generally occurs from condensation, lack of ventilation or moisture ingress from building or plumbing defects. Condensation is caused by excessive moisture in the home. It often occurs in winter when the warm air in the home hits a cold surface like your windows. Check out our tips for dealing with Condensation: ... * In the morning place your air conditioner on dry for approx 30 minutes - this will help to dry up the moisture in the air. * Wipe down window & balcony ledges with a cloth to dry up any water from overnight condensation. If walls are moist wipe those down too. * Open curtains and blinds as they can pick up moisture from the windows. * Buy an interior dehumidifier and place next to the windows in your home. (Coles $7.35) * Keep the bathroom exhaust fan on for approx 30 mins after showering, as there is a lot of moisture still in the air. * Open the windows to circulate the air * Turn range hood fan on in kitchen when cooking and cover pans with a lid * Move plants away from the windows, as they release moisture in the air * Hang washing outside Condensation can still occur in your home. However, using some of the tips above can help eliminate the effects.

Air con cleaning tips:... Wall mounted units - Remove and clean air con filters - 1. Remove or flip up the front grille of your air conditioner 2. Remove one large mesh panel, or 2 smaller ones, depending on the size and brand of your unit. 3. Clean the panels by taking them outside and tapping them gently on a railing or surface to dislodge dust and grime. 4. Any remaining particles can be vacuumed off Some filters are waterproof allowing you to rinse them under a tap. However, check your manual to make sure this is the case for your unit. Alternatively, you can use a damp cloth. - Wipe down the external unit with a damp cloth to remove any dust and remove any leaf debris. - Check batteries in your remote. Sometimes an issue with your wall mounted unit can be as simple as the batteries in the remote needing replacing. Ducted air conditioning unit - Service at least once a year to ensure it is running efficiently. Ceiling vents - turn off system. Vacuum vents to remove dust & loose dirt. Use a damp cloth to wipe tougher stains. Outdoor unit - wipe down with damp cloth. Use a leaf blower to remove any loose dirt, dust and debris. Ducts & fan coil - call the professionals. Air con maintenance as these parts are more fragile and easily damaged. If you have possums in your roof they can also cause holes which causes air to escape. Evaporative cooling tips - Service at the beginning and end of the cooling season is recommended by manufacturers. The cooling pads - can become clogged with dust and leaves. This can cause reduced air conditioning capacity that uses more water and power to run which will increase your costs. In extreme cases a clogged unit can cause a house fire. Stagnant Water - is a breeding ground for bacteria. When you turn on the unit again in the Warmer weather the stagnant water cycles through the cooling pads and into your home. Check - for leaks, fan, drain valve, wear and tear etc. Call a professional licensed plumber to make sure your cooling unit is working effectively to reduce future cost and to make sure the air in your home is clean and fresh.
