14.01.2022 The federal government has announced its time frame on delivering director IDs while also announcing the appointment of the Tax Commissioner as the Registrar of its new business register system. In addition, the ATO said ASIC registry staff will move to the ATO, in a Machinery of Government (MoG) administrative change to help the Registrar. This is a staffing change only. It doesn’t change your registry obligations, how you interact with the ASIC registers or the ABR, at thi...s time, the ATO said. Once fully established, the new Australian Business Registry Services (ABRS) will unify ASIC’s 31 business registers and the Australian Business Register onto a new modern system at the ATO. In a statement, Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and the Digital Economy Jane Hume indicated director identification numbers (director IDs) will be the first new function of the ABRS to be delivered later this year and is a new requirement for all company directors. Director ID will be a unique identifier that a director will keep forever. An individual will keep their director ID even if they cease to be a director, change their name, or move interstate or overseas, Ms Hume said. When it’s time to apply, the ATO said directors will be able to use ABRS online services and will sign in using the myGovID app. The ABRS is part of the Modifying Business Registers program which will be rolled out progressively between 2021 and 2024. 12.01.2022 The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) on Thursday announced that it had recovered $582,450 in wages on behalf of 276 workers across 45 businesses across North Hobart, Salamanca and Battery Point, and Constitution Dock. Fair Work Ombudsman Sandra Parker said her office plans to ramp up unannounced audits like those that took place across Hobart as part of a national program that will target similar dining precincts in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth. Our intellig...ence-led activities have hit food precincts around the country because they commonly employ a high proportion of young and migrant workers who can be vulnerable to exploitation, she said. As part of its Hobart-wide cheap eats audit, Fair Work Inspectors found 35 businesses in breach of workplace laws, with 32 of them having underpaid their workers, and 24 failing to meet payslip and record-keeping requirements. Among the most common breaches were paying staff less than minimum wage, with 27 businesses committing the breach, followed by failing to pay casual loading, of which 21 businesses were guilty. The ombudsman is also considering litigation against another business, and warned the other businesses found to be in breach of workplace laws would face heavier enforcement if they were found operating afoul of the laws again. According to its annual report, fast food, restaurant and café matters accounted for 50 per cent of the FWO’s litigation efforts in the 201920 year. 10.01.2022 *** *** If you are already receiving JobKeeper payments, you don’t need to enrol again or do anything different until after 28 September 2020. From 28 September 2020, the JobKeeper extension starts and the payment rates change for eligible employees.... You have until 31 October 2020 to meet the wage condition for fortnights ending in October for all your eligible employees. To remain eligible for JobKeeper extension one, you’ll need to demonstrate that you satisfy the actual decline in turnover for the September 2020 quarter (July, August, September) relative to a comparable period (generally July, August, September 2019). If you are currently enrolled and would like to continue to claim JobKeeper payments in the first extension, you’ll need to check your continuing eligibility from 1 October 2020. Once confirmed, submit this information to the ATO online. You, or your registered tax or BAS agent, will then need to submit a monthly declaration to the ATO between the 1st and the 14th of each month, to receive your reimbursements for payments you made in the previous month. You’ll need to select which payment tier you’re claiming for each eligible employee or business participant by your first monthly business declaration in November. ***** Tax Accountant & Business Advisor Easy to Reach - Ready to Help www.HiComAccounting.com.au
