25.01.2022 My favourite shot of the weekend of this beautiful Whistling Kite soaring above turquoise waters. . An awesome weekend away on the Mid North Coast meant a day spent at Seal Rocks. With pure dumb luck, this day was to be a smorgasbord of wildlife spotting. 23.01.2022 Its a joyous time to be able to head back out into the spotlight of the isolation that the more secluded parts of nature offers us. Having had to stay local has prevented visiting some of the more isolated beauties around me but given also given me more appreciation to be able to head out this weekend into the outdoors. . 22.01.2022 Morning broke to an incredible mini storm cell approaching the Walls of China. . Incredible sunsets and nights greeted us but sunrises were elusive on this Mungo trip, with storm and rain greeting us each morning as we rose early to see the sun but met with incredible views of 360 degrees of storms around us. . The flat topography of Mungo National Park landscape enabled us to see the storm cells around in all directions. Frightening as they were, the storm cells were truly ...incredible. . Although we didnt get to see any sunrises, perhaps the unpredictable nature of the mornings kept us on our feet and sharp for the trip. *********************************************** . 20.01.2022 Clarabelle looked back at me with intent and wise eyes. I met her on my way out of Barrington Tops National Park and was captivated by her beauty. Recently acquiring a new @sony telephoto lens to the set, I was super happy to lock eyes with her and take a few shots from afar. . The recent downpours and above average rains have had these grassy areas resemble more of the Western Highlands of Scotland than the dry Australian colours we have been used to seeing. I cant imagine ...how stoked Clarabelle has been recently with the change in scenery around her. . A long while back @__whateverman kindly share his love for Highland Cattle with me on a trip together and has led me to also opportunistically look out for these beautiful cows whenever I pass farmlands. 20.01.2022 Drenched in mist and rain in the depths of the Barringtop Tops Forest I headed along one of the beautiful tracks past much spectacular fungi and greenery towards the sound of cascading water and stumbled along this lavish scene. . After over 4 years of seeing this picturesque National Park through dear @treesandseas beautiful instagram feed, stories and recommendations everytime we met, I finally made the impromptu trip to head up to the park with @__whateverman to catch a g...limpse of the special area. With the added ambience of drizzling rain all trip, it was an absolute marvel. . To see this section of Barrington Tops untouched by the recent fires in lush Green was quite majestic and one could easily forget the devastation in the other parts of the Park but these lush scenes should serve as a reminder to the fragil environments we need to protect. ************************************************* . 19.01.2022 One of the few wildlife photos I was able to take on the limited fast packed trip out to Mungo National Park. A pair of beautiful Major Mitchells Cockatoos flew overheard and landed on a nearby tree as I was headed to a nearby sunset along the Self guided Drive Tour. With time limited, I quickly grabbed a few snaps of these pretty birdies before rushing to sunset. . Limited to semi-arid and arid environments but not uncommon around these areas, my first ever sighting of th...ese beauties in the wild was met with much excitement - perhaps fuelled more by the disappointment of somewhat low wildlife numbers seen on the trip. . With their beautiful Pink plumage they are also known as the Pink cockatoo and leadbeaters cockatoo. 19.01.2022 As I drove between Seal Rocks and Forster, I sighted the incredible sight of an osprey nest on top of a power pole along The Lakes Way and had to check it out. . On second look there was an osprey inside the nest and also another feeding on a fish as so happily indulged in taking some quick snaps although it was difficult staring into the sun. . Often know to build nests on top of power poles, this iconic Osprey nest has been around since 2015, and the subsequent power pole i...s now non functional for electricity! 19.01.2022 Gazing over the beautiful Mungo landscape at sunset hour as the warm rays turn the lunettes golden along the Walls of China. The stunning features and eerie landscape really made us feel like we were in another part of the world perhaps even space. . After driving the best part of the day across the state east to west, we arrived just in time to catch the last moments of day over the epic Mungo landscape, unlike any other wed seen in Australia until now. . Three major lay...ers of sediment formed over a long period of time, the oldest up to 150,000 years ago and ancient burials have been found in some higher layers over 36,000 years old. On the top layer is where these spectacular clay lunette formations are found, for ed up to 15,000 years ago through decreased water flow, mud, salts and the processes of wind. . Perhaps the most famous of all discoveries were the findings of Mungo Lady and Mungo Man, the cremation of Mungo Lady being the oldest known in the world. . The Paakantji, Ngyiampaa and Mutthi Mutthi people are the traditional owners of this beautiful National Park and their descendants walk in the footsteps of their ancestors safeguarding the heritage for years to come. . *********************************************** . 18.01.2022 A mystical sunrise over Greater Sydney from Yellow Rock Lookout - perhaps the most memorable Ive experienced from this stunning Blue Mountains spot. . Every so often I like to pay this beautiful quaint place a visit to start a Blue Mountains trip, and do so without a heap of expectation but my golly did this morning hit the mark. . First, the colours in the sky lit up in a smorgasbord or colours as we stood in awe of this Blueys view over the Nepean River and Castlereagh to... Marsden Park of Greater Sydney shrouded in mist. However it was as the colours left and the sun rose and lit up the dissipating mist clouds that the glorious moment was truly felt. . Oh what a morning it was. 18.01.2022 The first day of 2020 in Sydney began with the all-too-familiar smoky haze of late, the continuing story of the back end of 2019 and the bushfire crisis still gripping Australia. . One of my favourite places in NSW, Donkey Mountain and the Wolgan Valley has seen the fires rip through the area and its hard to wonder what this place will look like when I eventually return to see it. Some life regenerates, and some change but there has been so much lost to date, and unfortunate...ly more to come in the foreseeable future. . Though this post was to be a New Year Greeting to all, I would firstly like to take the time to thank all the personnel out there self-lessly battling the fires and assisting those in and around them. . I could go on about the sorry issues to the whole story but with the New Year I thought it appropriate to focus on the good of the wider Australian community banding together in this time of crisis. With that in mind, please donate generously to the @nswrfs in this time of need. . 18.01.2022 A first time walking through the depths of a canyon for @b1isss0m was met with many moments of awe and a touch of frost. The beautiful constrictioms above gave way to a passage of light to illuminate the interior and some of the lush ferns that were able to grow in the dark space of the canyon. . The beautiful walk in Nayook Creek Canyon offers a beginners look into adventuring canyons with a mix of obstacles and easy grade ropes with no extra gear required on most given days.... Caution should always be observed in any canyon no matter the difficulty due to the dangerous nature and remoteness of these beauties. ********************************************** . 18.01.2022 The moment I was in deep eye to eye contact with the magnificent male Gang-gang Cockatoo in the Blue Mountains. It gave me an inquisitive look as I happily obliged. . At the beginning of the day's walk at Mount Wilson, this beautiful guy fluttered overhead and perched himself on an overhead branch right in front of me and I duly obliged in becoming over excited and snapping his photo. . Mostly mild grey in colour with some lighter scalloping, the male Gang-gang cockatoo has ...a red head and crest, while the female has a small fluffy grey crest. The male Gang-gang cockatoo really stands out with his male plumage and is easy to identify. . Usually found more to the South East of Australia to where it is endemic, it will migrate short distances in winter to open habitats but return to their sense woodland homes to breed. ************************************************* . 18.01.2022 A sunrise from my last overnight hiking trip on one of Australias highest peaks. Waiting in anticipation for the next fabulous trip to come in the hope of catching that gorgeous sunrise. . As @davesyd_ and I woke an hour before sunrise, and headed to our designated sunrise on top of Etheridge Ridge we looked behind us as the Peak of Mount Kosciuszko started to become brighter in the approaching light. . 16.01.2022 Pantoneys Crown Sunrise from the Winter White Gardens of Stone! . Forcefully waking up to the -7 degrees celsius morning to catch sunrise was a real struggle as the warmth of my sleeping bag defied all logic of getting out of the tent. However, rise I must and I stumbled out of my Pantoneys Crown refuge to await the sunrise. . Winter sees the Gardens of Stone National Park area frequently drop sub zero temperatures although snow is very rare. It has been a thinly veiled missi...on to catch snow on one of the high points of this beautiful area on an overnight hike for a once in a life time event. . Alas the forecast did not predict any such snow but did see the temperatures drop so low that overnight everything frosted over and a glossy white shone over the landscape. 16.01.2022 Just another unbeatable view of the expansive Capertee Valley, second largest Canyon in the world (although not quite as deep as most canyons in the same class) from the top of Pantoneys Crown. . 16.01.2022 Overnight Hiking camp scenes from Pantoneys Crown. . Two of the beautiful scenes that came of the overnight hike and just another reason I love doing these tough adventures. Seeing the Milky Way Core brightly shining above us as the sun disappeared in the evening with the full moon that rose soon after and the warm sunrise from our tents as we woke to horridly cold temperatures were just the perfect reward for what was a tough slog. . 16.01.2022 Earlier this year when weddings were still scheduled and life was still somewhat of a norm, I took my friends on a trip to the Blue Mountains for a pre wedding shoot to grasp a feeling of immersion in the Australian Bush. Rather than the iconic photos with the Sydney Landmarks, they asked for this nature touch and I was happy to oblige. . Very different to the sort of walks and tours Im usually on but it was awesome to be able to capture a special scene like this in such a ...beautiful place like the Blue Mountains at a variety of my favourite spots. . 16.01.2022 That warm moment where the morning light fizzled but the grandeur of the moment wasnt lost on me regardless as I gazed out at the Warrumbungle National Park landscape at sunrise hour. The distance travelled and effort spent finally getting to this spot seemed to uplift my soul even more as I took in the view. . The last time I headed out significantly inland into NSW was back on my visit to the Warrumbungles and a fond memory it was. 15.01.2022 Spotted the loveliest of Rainbow Lorikeet pairs enjoying the shelter of this tree hollow. The manner in which they were fluttering around the hollow brought joy to me. . Taken along one of my not-so - frequent bird-watching walks, it today seems eerily similar to the predicament that we find ourselves in, holed up at home, although this lovely pair has the freedom to fly off at their choosing. .... Although a common sight to see in many a suburban scene, if not heard for their noisy chirpy cries, one of the most colourful native Australian birds makes its presence felt. They mostly remain monogamous and remain paired together for a lengthy time, if not for life and part of the reason we hear their noisy colourful chatter amongst them. . . ************************************************* . 14.01.2022 As the rain continues to fall in the Blue Mountains at recent record levels, even the most unsuspecting areas receive uncommon flows of water. A few hours after a recent downpour in the Blueys, I headed into one of my favourite areas of zen and was greeted by the presence of a rare waterfall! . Nestled deep in the Blueys, this beautiful nook was alive with the sound of rain and flowing water, teeming with lush greens and forest sounds. A perfect place for the mermaids to call... their frolicking place admist natures serenade. . It was only fitting to spend a long while in this space, admiring the audible ambience of the ampitheatre and taking shots a plenty of the lovely @nanju_snap and @sizezero86 while finding a few brief moments to take some shots for myself of the rare flow. . 14.01.2022 Visiting the 6th highest Peak in Kosziuscko NP and Australia where our evening adventures began. . After almost 20km of trudging through changing conditions, especially times of walking on snow with a 23kg pack, the wondrous sight of yet another Peak in the distance reared its head. The intricate way the Rocks formed the peak at Rams Head North really drew my eyes in the fading light as well as to the small streams from the melting snow. . After a hard days slog, seeing ...the rocky outcrop of Rams Head North was Just what we needed for that extra burst of energy to head into a myriad of spectacular rock formations in the area. . Walking on the Rams Head Range was definitely one of the highlights of this trip. . / DM kakao: hikeandseek . . *********************************************** . Location: Rams Head North (2177m - 6th Highest Peak of Australia), Rams Head Range, Kosziuscko National Park, NSW . Directions: 5.5-6 Hours drive South West of Sydney. Research to be done ahead of any trip out to NSWs most famous alpine region and Australias highest Mountains and peaks. Day hiking is usually done as the Mount Kosziuscko summit walk via the Main Range circuit - Charlottes Pass and Thredbo are the most taken starting points. 13.01.2022 "Light at the end of the Tunnel" . As some bumbling world leader casually describes his countrys current crippling pandemic situation. I sure hope things turn around soon for them for the sake of the people. . For us in NSW, it really seems as if there is a small light at the end of the tunnel from this coming Friday - just announced, as small gatherings of 10 are allowed outdoors again, hopefully covid-19 case numbers wont break out and undo the two months of stay at home... restrictions. . Its up to all of us to be responsible and practice minimal social contact where possible. In the mean time I am very glad to be able to possibly head out next weekend with a small handful of keen walkers. Nothing solid is planned yet but the excitement is real. . 13.01.2022 @davesyd_ on his way to Mount Kosciuszko whilst lugging almost 25kgs of gear on his back through Northcote Pass. . With multiple sections of slippery snow and wet ice, this boarded track along Northcote Pass was a welcome break from dodgy walking conditions on the trek up to Kosciuszko via the Main Range Track. 12.01.2022 Just over a year ago I visited Kangaroo Island in South Australoa with little prior knowledge of the beauty the island possessed and the fond memories I developed for the island in the short amount of time. . Fast forward a year and Kangaroo Island, much like other large parts of Australia, has been decimated by the bushfires and has seen some terrible times. The isolated nature of the island meant a large number of pure strains of wildlife were present on the island like the... only chlamydia free koalas in Australia and the purest Ligurian bees in the world. . These have been highly publicized, along with the tourist resorts, local businesses and homes affected. The fires have taken over more than half the island to date and have been truly devastating. It is important to note that there are so many other fauna and flora that have been affected over just what makes the news. . Flinders Chase National Park especially, has lost so much and will take years to recover and much will never eventuate. I was lucky enough to visit this amazing place before the Fires and will definitely head back to help tourism back in the area. . 12.01.2022 The moment A truly miraculous display of light in the Grand Canyon captivated my soul. . As I waited in awe (and cold) for a light event that may or may not have eventuated in the canyon floor, I couldn’t help but think there must be a dozen different sections along the canyon at which light beams may penetrate at astonishing angles. . It’s been a couple of visits down here to this serene place, and it never gets old. This time round though, I had one goal in mind. To b...e in the right spot at the right time of the day at which the sun’s rays would penetrate deep into the canyon through its constrictions... . After finally deciding on two spots near by each other and with camera/tripod set up I waited. . And then just after the stroke of midday, multiple blinding beams of sunlight hit the canyon floor, providing a short but temporary warmth and dazzle to the already beautiful atmosphere for this shot. . ********************************************** . 11.01.2022 Rain almost every weekend just means these Blue Mountains waterfalls are pumping away! I headed back to the Pool of Siloam to see it in marvellous flow and was not disappointed. . A quick look at my last visit to the spot back in 2015 (post also on instagram) shows the small steady stream on a normal to dryish day. . Although only a short 10 minute stroll to the waterfall, the rain pelted down and made shooting uncomfortable. Getting cold, wet and miserable on what was planne...d to be a relaxed weekend, was not initially on the cards. I quickly knuckled down to get a few shots and I was back in the local pub with a beer soon enough. . Hiking and shooting in the rain is sure fun but not so much when you havent really prepared the right gear for it! 09.01.2022 Hearing the beautiful familiar call of a Black Cockatoo had me look around frantically as I spotted a small flock of Black Cockatoos. To my delight it turned out to be a species I had never seen before. Walking through Yanchep National Park in Western Australia a few years back on the search for wild koalas led me to an opportunistic first meeting with a wild Carnabys Black Cockatoo - its appearance as beautiful as all Black Cockatoos are. At first thinking it was a Yellow...-tailed Black Cockatoo I snapped a few shots being one of my favourite birds to see around NSW. With closer inspection it clearly had its own distinctive features as well as a creamier colour on its cheeks and tail feathers as opposed to yellow. Its plumage is also edged with a creamy white . Endemic to South Western Australia, the numbers have slowly declined mainly through loss of habitat, and although conservation measures are in place, more awareness is needed to protect the livelihood of these beautiful birds. ************************************************* . Weary eyes from the drive and worrying thoughts of 23kgs on our back were soon forgotten as we stopped multiple times after barely beginning the walk to take in the views. (and taste the beautiful water). . After many years of this alpine adventure having been on the feelers, I finally headed down to Kosziuscko National Park, to do an overnight walk via an extension of the Main Range Track . ... . With a quick stop by the nations Capital the night before which had its own share of adventure, @davesyd_ and I began our overnight walk on Saturday morning. It really was some way to finish the full day of Mungo adventur! . We hurried through the vast landscape finding different vantage points with little time left before the colours disappeared. 06.01.2022 A beautiful walk along the Kosciuszko Summit Trail from the Thredbo Chairlift brought us to the sight of the beautiful Merrits Creek less than half an hour into our walk. It truly was a wondrous sight to behold! Easily one of the highlights of the Kosciuszko Alpine Way Road Trip! . The conditions weren't the most usual for October Spring and visibility was minimal due to the snow, wind and mist but that just meant the more closer sights were even more mystical. It is more pr...obable to expect a greener and clear landscape in the warmer months but snow is never out of the question all year round due to Kosciuszko's altitude. . 01.01.2022 Feeling lost in Deep Space as I watched the Milky Way Core rising above the lunettes of Mungo. One would be hard pressed to distinguish the surroundings from that of another planet not of Earth. . Witnessing the vivid night sky from the other-planetlike landscape of Mungo National Park was perhaps the highlight of our road trip and one that I had looked forward to for many years before finally heading a thousand kilometres west to visit earlier this month. . After a day of ...adventuring around the park and taking part in a guided tour with @nswnationalparks and their Aboriginal discovery guides we had only Just begun to be immersed in the beauty of Mungo. . After quickly speaking with our kind and knowledgeable Aboriginal guide, I asked about the possibility of capturing sunset and astro at the Walls of China area. (as this area is prohibited from entry without a guide) I was offered the suggestion of the area around Vigars Well, along the self guided tour. . After a beautiful sunset to remember and a hearty dinner back at the car, @sujinmin and I headed back to this area to capture the vibrant night sky. .
