22.01.2022 MEET BRAD Brad is the creator and owner of Hillside Crossfit and Hillside Health. 7 years ago, out of his own backyard shed, he started running a few Crossfit sessions a week that consisted of closer friends and family. From there Brad and wife, Emma, created the first Hillside Crossfit and soon after, opened the Hillside Health clinic. Members flowed in over the years, creating a strong community that soon outgrew the space. With 2 little boys and one on the way, Brad and Em...ma then opened the doors of Hillside 2.0, our new home. Brad has worked extremely hard to create this space and build the Hillside community, something that all Hillsiders are proud to be a part of. 16.01.2022 CROSSFIT KIDS Crossfit Kids at Hillside is a 30 min class programmed for kids aged 6 to 11 years. We work with the kids to improve their functional fitness skills while keeping a fun and safe environment. We focus on body weight and cardio movements like box jumps, skipping, running, handstands, pull ups, push ups and more. Each week we have a skill focus, we work on the skill’s each class and then usually use that skill during the workout that follows. Some of you may be aware that my wonderful (yet irritating at times) husband Brad, suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy called facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD). It basically means that the muscles in Brad's back, should...ers, face and potentially his legs may waste away and unfortunately not come back. He has already lost muscle in his chest, shoulders, back and face but luckily he can still do CrossFit, just not all the movements. We are trying to raise money this Sept by doing a Squat Challenge for the FSHD foundation (50 squats a day for all of Sept). She not only has heaps of Industry experience working at CrossFit competitions around Perth but has a Diploma in Remedial Massage, is an Anatomy Trains Structural Integration Practitioner and is always furthering her knowledge through research. "Remedial massage is beneficial for reducing stress levels, improving postural and movement restrictions and reducing pain. When I work with clients I don’t just look at the pain...ful area, I will assess the whole body to see which areas in the body are out of balance and could be causing the pain or movement issues. My aim is to find the cause of the problem to help reduce the chance of it recurring - and this means we may work through the whole body over a few sessions to bring things back into alignment. In my treatment, I use a combination of massage techniques including deep tissue, trigger point therapy and sports massage, however my speciality is in myofascial release.
