24.01.2022 'It's people who have fallen on hard times, got divorced, lost their jobs, got a work injury.... In Toronto, activists say there have never been so many people without a place to call their own. They use the word "epidemic."’ https://www.cbc.ca///toronto/homeless-in-toronto-1.5400781

23.01.2022 Many thanks to these fabulous people who have just donated 150 pairs of thongs for our patients! It’s going to be a hot summer in Perth and hot pavement can cause damage to feet. It seems simple but a pair of thongs can stop burns, cuts and infections and therefore reduce the need for medical intervention! Just so many generous people in this city doing small but great things...

21.01.2022 We’ve been in contact with our colleagues in the US and UK..we’ll have a quite extensive outbreak of COVID among homeless people if we don't act."

21.01.2022 "In 2008, I started Homeless Healthcare with a colleague. From an office in my house, we planned to visit drop-in centres twice a week to provide health care to people experiencing homelessness. Our biggest mistake was underestimating the demand within three months it became a full-time job."

17.01.2022 Smoking is a huge part of the lives of most people experiencing homelessness. However, with access to best practice quit smoking support they can successfully reduce and quit smoking https://www.makesmokinghistory.org.au/s/homeless-healthcare

15.01.2022 Studies have found that those on the street and their animal companions are better off together. It’s been found that homeless people with pets are much less likely to get depressed or engage in risky behaviours. A number of shelters have opened up around the world that welcome homeless people and their pets, plus there are programs that provide free veterinary aid. This photo taken in Chile by one of the HHC nurses.

14.01.2022 Street art appreciated by one of our nurses when visiting Chile recently. Homelessness is prevalent in every continent. #streetart #homelessness

10.01.2022 This initiative in the UK is similar to what we’re in the process of trying to set up here in Perth. https://twitter.com/stmungos/status/1247764461319933955?s=21

10.01.2022 Great that this idea might finally become a reality.

10.01.2022 Many thanks to all the wonderful cafe’s and patrons who supported @streetsmartaustralia cafesmart initiative! As a result we have received a grant for $1250 to put towards the expansion of our Street Health services.

09.01.2022 Minimizing the risk of COVID-19 exposure and transmission is immensely difficult for people experiencing homelessness and the health services working with them. Homeless Healthcare’s Dr Andrew Davies outlines some of the challenges in this short journal article. Unfortunately there are no easy answers..

05.01.2022 WARNING!! This is not a "feel good" story... This is a "FEEL BLOODY GREAT STORY!" It's not everyday you get to meet one of your heroes.... I was walking down El...izabeth on my way to Flinders St. this afternoon when I came across this scene. Of course I had to stop... The gentleman with scissors in hand is Nasir Sobhani, the gentleman with the massive smile on his face and a new haircut is a lovely homeless man named Grant. I watched on as Nasir gave Grant a fantastic haircut and I watched as Grant's smile got wider and wider. So did Nasir's. Nasir is The Streets Barber. In his spare time he goes around and gives the homeless in Melbourne free haircuts. He has done this all over the world. I asked Grant how he felt after he got his cut "About a tonne lighter!" He said with a massive smile on his face. Nasir was so busy getting the next client ready that I only had time for one question, the only question that really mattered... "Why?" "I'm a recovering drug addict and this is my new drug. Simple as that." As I was walking away with a massive smile on my face Nasir sat his next client down, the gentleman said, "Thank you so much for this" Nasir replied, "No my friend, thank you. You are the one helping me. Thank you." It’s been a couple of years since I first told Nasir’s story and he is still out there being amazing! Love your work mate! #melbourneiloveyou
