24.01.2022 JobKeeper Payment - The decline in turnover test https://mailchi.mp/4724ba920122/job-keeper-payment-1347074

23.01.2022 It was great to catch up with Senator Amanda Stoker on her trip down the Queensland coast talking to business owners about current issues they are facing.

21.01.2022 In this time of uncertainty we have been given the opportunity to head back to basics and appreciate the simple things, whether that is watching the sunrise, working on your fitness or celebrating reaching a milestone with those closest to you. Today that’s us, Happy 25th wedding anniversary Peter and Amanda!

20.01.2022 The 2020-21 Federal Budget was handed down last night and we’re digging through it to find out what’s important to you. One highlight that caught our eye was the new JobMaker Hiring Credit, an initiative to accelerate growth in employment by giving businesses incentives to take on additional JobSeekers aged between 16 and 35 years old. Once we’ve had time to review the update in depth, we’ll post a summary on our blog.... As always, if you have any questions, please contact us at Hurney Partners.

19.01.2022 Lest We Forget.

18.01.2022 You need to change and adapt now to plan for tomorrow Qantas A message to all business. With Qantas announcing job cuts of 6000, plus 15000 employees currently stood down, there are some stark but also loud and clear messages for businesses out there. With business starting back up and what appears to be at least an initial upsurge in consumer spending, there is the temptation for businesses to go back to the same model that was working pre-March 2020. The Qantas announc...ements today are a wakeup call for businesses to take the chance now to plan their future direction and to adapt their business to meet the challenging environment which may lie ahead. Have you taken the chance over this period to review your business model? At Hurney Partners we have taken some time to review our own business and have some major changes planned for the future. With the 30 June bringing the financial year to an end now is your chance to start afresh for the next 12 months ahead. We can help you start that new journey

15.01.2022 We are celebrating a double birthday this week, with the one year anniversary of moving into our new office located at the Pier Cairns with Humac Design and our new office premises located at 6 Owen Street Innisfail. When you are head down and in the middle of major changes within your business it is often hard to see to the other end. Now looking back over the last 12 months and we can finally reflect on where we are today. This includes a now modern, well-equipped and positive office environment that can adjust to the constant changes in the finance industry. Its onwards and upwards for Hurney Partners, we are ready for the future.

15.01.2022 A change of logo equals some new colours and signage. A modern and fresh look for both offices.

14.01.2022 Hurney Partners took an opportunity during the early stages of the pandemic lockdown to review our business strategy, and re-align our services with the changing needs of our valued clients. We recognised that in these uncertain times, our clients require simplicity, clarity and a fresh approach to business. We felt that an essential part of this process was to rebrand our business with a fresh and modern corporate image. Our website has been live for a few months, and we’ve had nothing but excellent feedback on our new corporate image. 12.01.2022 When talking to accountants this picture may not seem too far off the mark. We know accounting doesn't shout 'Fun' to most, but we try not to look like the bloke in this picture. Come in and have a chat with some accountants who aren't your typical accountants. Well, we like to think so...

08.01.2022 As this COVID-19 (Corona Virus) event unfolds Hurney Partners as a small business are taking every step to ensure the safety of our clients. We will continue to provide the usual services for all clients and will continue to adjust how we undertake them as the situation unfolds and we learn more from authorities. Surrounded by this, we encourage businesses to keep calm, take stock and focus on what you can control: Don’t spend money on things you don’t need. Cash is Ki...ng. Businesses must ensure they are getting paid in a timely manner. To do this you must make every effort to call in outstanding debts, and likewise pay any outstanding debts Wages are often your highest cost. Be open and honest with your employees. Discuss strategies where staff may all take reduced hours - so no one needs to be made redundant. This doesn’t mean you should keep staff on at the detriment to your businesses, however the current situation won’t last forever and when circumstances change, you will have a trained team ready to go. Keep abreast of what help is out there. We will try to provide as much information as possible regarding government and business support, however in the end it is your business and you need to take control. Lastly, don’t be scared to reach out. If times are tough and stress builds, talk to people or organisations who can help, go for a walk to clear your head and try not to listen to the constant stream of bad news about the same thing every day. Remember to focus on what you can change, and not what you can’t.

07.01.2022 Very unusual scenes out of Flemington today for the 2020 Melbourne Cup! As they prepare to get underway without crowds for the first time in the Cup's 159 year history, we thought we'd check out the attendance records for the Race that Stops the Nation! The record was set in 2003, with a massive 122,736 strong crowd.... Best of luck in the race today, we hope you back a winner! #melbournecup #theracethatstopsthenation #COVID19 #melbournecup2020 #nocrowds

05.01.2022 There has been plenty of doom and gloom recently about a slow down in housing, the struggling retail sector and locally we have seen a period of lower prices in the banana and cane industries. From looking at a range of businesses and their performances in recent times, the most common theme which seems to come about relates right back to Darwin's Theory of Evolution. To put it simply, adapt or become extinct. The pace of change will not be slowing down any time soon and t...hose wishing to continue must adapt and change to meet these demands. Communication is instantaneous, information sources are at your fingertips, the modern business and the modern business person needs to embrace change. The first step in this process is taking a step back from your business, looking to the future and starting to make some plans, set some goals and put review systems in place to ensure you stay on track. Then ensure these plans are updated and modernised to adapt to the changes in your industry or marketplace.

04.01.2022 There is less than 24hrs remaining until the race that stops the nation works its magic for 2019. The Melbourne Cup will be worth a total of $7,750,000 in prize money in 2019 with Australians betting more than $125 million on the one race alone. We'll let the statistics do the talking, here are some hot tips to keep in mind when placing your bets... No horse has ever won the Melbourne Cup from barrier 18 in the 84 years it has been in use. Five-year-olds and four-year-olds ha...ve the best record of any age group with 86 winners between them, for a 56% strike-rate. In the past decade, the average Melbourne Cup weight carried to victory is 54kg55kg. Only 16 females have won the Cup, with mares accounting for thirteen of these victories. 3 belonging to Makybe Diva, who was also the last female to win the Cup (2005). Choose wisely - We will be!

01.01.2022 Do you do enough planning? February has passed and March is well under way have you planned your year ahead? One thing our partners Peter & Glenn have in common is that while driving back from their respective holidays, they used the driving time to plan out their year ahead.
