23.01.2022 Perfect timing for those at Blowering dam or those about to visit the dam. The shallows of Blowering are teething with fish at the moment. So many redfin and carp in the shallows that in the backs of some bays the water is litteraly bubbling with action. Also plenty of cod and yellas in there gorging on the redfin and carp that are gorging on the plentiful baitfish. Sight fishing the big hard fighting carp with the same one inch plastics that the redfin can't get enough of d...efinitely keeps it interesting, action packed and most importantly simple. No need to change lures at all unless you want to exclusively target the natives. Grab your favourite tiny plastics and go get amongst them. 20.01.2022 Redfin hot tips (Blowering dam) Bit of a hot tip or two for those heading to Blowering dam especially those that want to keep the kids entertained. The footage isn't great but these few little tips if you don't know them already should help you and the kids catch plenty of redfin and keep them biting once you locate a school which isn't very hard at the moment with the shallow margins of the dam teaming with small to medium sized redfin amongst many other fish species. Anoth...er handy tip is to carry a two way radio like the handheld model you can hear in the background of the video. The lake has limited phone reception in places and a two way radio comes in handy if you're out in the boat, get dropped on the bank like I did in this clip and can call to get picked up or to keep in touch with other campers. Very handy on this lake and many others with limited mobile reception. Maybe consider fostering, it's very easy, no long term commitments and you help get these little guys out of cages and kick start their new lives whilst they wait for the perfect owner to come and adopt them. It's unbelievably rewarding watching these little guys come out of their shells whilst in your care and like I said it's not much of a commitment but it makes a massive difference in these animals lives and personalities. 08.01.2022 Super early start to the day picking these little babies up. Now to go and release them into their new home and by geez is it a good home. Won't take long to get them to catchable size and if all goes to plan the 2 new private fisheries I'm setting up will be insane. And yes the plan is to start guiding on these private lakes once well established and offer clients a unique fishing option with no worries about crowds or not catching a fish. Fisheries like this are the future for many and something that is desperately needed in this era of most people being time poor and some waterways being so popular it is almost impossible to get an area to yourself. One thousand yearling Rainbow Trout have been stocked into Blowering Dam as part of a long-term stocking strat...egy to combat predation from redfin and to provide information on survival and growth. The fish were produced at DPI’s Gaden Trout Hatchery and range from 150mm to 230mm. Blowering is a fantastic native and trout fishery and finding the best size for stocking in the presence of redfin will help to maintain the dam as a great mixed fishery. Recreational fishers who land one of these trout will be rewarded with a Wigston Tassie Devil lure prize in return for their capture information. This information received will help determine survival and growth rates of Rainbow Trout and can be lodged on https://bit.ly/35DSvsa This release is part of our tag recapture program which includes tagged fish releases into Oberon Dam, Lake Lyell, Lake Wallace, Carcoar Dam and Khancoban Pondage.
