24.01.2022 China not only has amazing buildings, fascinating history and archaeological discoveries but beautiful scenery. One such place is the Zhangjiajie, one of China’s first national forest parks with an area of 11,900 acres. The park is filled with pillar-like formations that are a result of many years of erosion. Throughout the year the weather is moist and the foliage is very dense. One of the larger pillars, the 1,080 meter Southern Sky Column, has been officially renamed ‘Avat...ar Hallelujah Mountain’ in honour of James Cameron’s film, Avatar. The film’s director and production designers said that they drew inspiration for the floating rocks found on Pandora from mountains all over the world including those in the Hunan province. If you want to get closer to nature and see some more of the ‘off the beaten track’ areas of China our ‘China’s Hidden Beauty’ group tour is perfect for you! See more

24.01.2022 Asia offers such a wide variety for travellers shopping, culture, and nature. Some of these places are well known and others are only just being explored. Borneo is just one country Australians and the rest of the world is starting to explore. It is the largest island in Asia and boasts many delights to behold from the mountains and rainforests to remote rivers and the abundant flora and fauna. When travelling to Borneo a visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary, where young, orphaned or captured orang-utans are rehabilitated into the wild, is a must! You will be delighted by their antics as you watch the babies and older orang-utans play. Stay tuned for more posts on Borneo when Dan, our director, travels there in October.

19.01.2022 One of our team, Rosita, has just arrived in Bhutan and is having a wonderful time visiting the sites. Just yesterday she visited the Taktsang Palphug Monastery in Paro, also known as ‘The Tiger’s Nest’. One legend tells the tale of Padmasambhava, the Second Buddha, who flew to this location from Tibet on the back of a tigress from Khenpajong, bringing with him the knowledge of Buddhism. Padmasambhava then mediated for three to four months in one of the caves high on the moun...tain after which he subdued the local ‘demons’ and began the conversion of the Bhutanese to Buddhism. The monastery now stands as a prominent Himalayan Buddhist sacred site and temple complex. It is a steep climb up hill to reach the monastery but it is well worth the effort and sweat. Once at the top, you can visit the nine sacred caves, Tshoyal Pangchung and paintings. Stay tuned for more posts on Rosita’s time in Bhutan! See more

16.01.2022 I am excited to be leading our latest Japan Cherry Blossom tour in March/April 2016. Japan’s rich culture, traditions and beautiful landscapes always leaves me wanting more. You are sure to be amazed by all Japan has to offer in our 14 day luxury tour of Japan, exploring the traditions, cuisine and culture of the Samurai warrior, the exquisite Geisha and their Tea Ceremony. The Cherry Blossom trees in bloom for only a short period of time become a focal point of the Japanese landscapes and culture. Picnics are held at the base of the trees in parks as visitors watch the cherry blossoms float to the ground. The pink and white flowers bloom throughout the country and create a pretty view amongst Japan’s temples and rivers. Contact us or your local travel agent for more information!

16.01.2022 You might not know it but InterAsia travels to the Maldives! Luxurious island hideaways and squeaky clean beaches are fast becoming the best place for a honeymoon or relaxing getaway. We have many resorts from three star to five star to choose from with most offering all inclusive packages. A popular resort over the past few months has been the Adaaran Select Hundhuran Fushi, located only 19km away from Male airport. A quick thirty minute speedboat will take you to the resort and make getting there swift and hassle-free. The resort offers a spa, a number of restaurants, scuba diving, snorkelling and also has a swimming pool and tennis court. So come explore swaying palm trees, pure white beaches and brilliant turquoise lagoons that the Maldives has to offer.

14.01.2022 Darjeeling is just one of the much loved destinations of the InterAsia team. It's tea plantations, cool climate and English colonial houses provide the perfect environment for an enjoyable and fascinating stay. Commercial cultivation of tea in the area began in 1856 and welcomed a number of British planters to soon call Darjeeling their home. The local tea growers created new hybrids of black tea and fermentation methods. Darjeeling is still internationally recognised for its... popular black teas. Another attraction of Darjeeling is the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which connects the town with the plains and is one of the few steam locomotive trains in India still in service. There are also a number of parks and gardens to visit. If you want to see this area for yourself why not go on InterAsia’s ‘Best of Sikkim and Darjeeling’ 12 day tour? See more

14.01.2022 Our new Vietnam and South East Asia brochure is printed and available to help you plan your next holiday with us! Old favourites such as our ‘Vietnam Highlights’ and ‘Angkor and Vietnam’ tour have been revised and we are very excited to add a new destination the Philippines! With a mixture of tours your thirst for travel will definitely be quenched.

13.01.2022 When travelling overseas it is always interesting to visit not only the capital city but also the surrounding areas. Due to the bad weather on Halong Bay, David Reeves and our other agents on our recent Vietnam famil had some time to explore the surrounding areas of Hanoi. They visited a town famous for making rice paper. The rice paper is used in the creation of the rice paper rolls not to write on. David Reeves was lucky to have good weather that day for drying the rice paper. While waiting for the rice paper to dry he explored the streets and alleyways of the town. He came across children playing and a gentleman who had been in the French and American (Vietnam) war. He is 87 years old and jogs four kilometres each day. It is amazing what and who you discover when you leave the big city!

12.01.2022 We are very excited to add the Philippines to our new Vietnam brochure. With such a wide variety of things to do we just know this country is going to be a hit with our clients. One of our favourite spots, located in the north area and only eight hours from Manila, is Banaue. Here you can see century old stoned walled rice terraces, a number of World War 2 battlefields, village handicrafts and even enjoy a refreshing dip in the local river. Both of our brochure tours ‘Philippines Mountains & Beaches’ and ‘Highlights of North Luzon’ include time in Banaue. Contact us if you’re ready to see what the Philippines has to offer.

08.01.2022 If you’re looking for a holiday where you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, Inle Lake in Myanmar provides the perfect relaxation! Located in the centre of Myanmar, Inle Lake is well known for its floating gardens of grass and earth on the shallow lake’s surface. Most resorts are built on stilts on the lake and offer beautiful views of the lake and the daily activities of the locals. Watch the fisherman row in the one-legged style characteristic o...f the Inle Lake boatmen. Or explore nearby Indain with its enchanting 16th century pagodas. If you wish to visit Inle Lake, flights run daily from Yangon or Mandalay. If you’re wanting to see more of Myanmar our 11 day ‘Myanmar Highlights’ provides a good overview for first time travellers, or you can explore the country in luxury on our new ‘Myanmar in Style’ tour that also features a four night river cruise on the superb ‘Road to Mandalay’ river cruiser and beautiful five star hotels and resorts. 05.01.2022 Our NSW representative, David Reeves, is currently enjoying the sights of Phnom Penh before embarking on a Pandaw cruise to Saigon. After riding on a tuk tuk for the first time in Phnom Penh, David thought it might be a good idea to point out the benefits of travelling in tuk tuks while in Asia. For those of you who don’t know, a tuk tuk (Cambodia style) is basically a motor bike with a trailer behind that can hold up to four people. They are a great way to travel around the ...city but can be a little daunting the first time. Tell your driver where you wish to go and get your bargaining caps on as negotiations are made at the start. David spent the trip from the Tourist Wharf in Phnom Penh to the central market marvelling at the tuk tuk drivers ability to avoid crashing the rain and seemingly total absence of road rules didn’t help ease his fears! He even had to lend his driver an umbrella so he could protect himself. The drivers are also great at multi-tasking they can talk on their mobile phones using the hands free method, have a conversation with you and dodge the other vehicles in oncoming traffic. Somehow it all works and you realise that this is actually fun! See more

05.01.2022 I am planning to escort a tour to Vietnam in August this year to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Long Tan battle - I have put together a three stage itinerary so that you can enjoy as much or as little of Vietnam as you like - see full details on our website at http://www.interasia.com.au/viet/long-tan-50th-anniversary/ - I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about this tour - please note bookings must close no later than 3 June 2016!

04.01.2022 As David Reeves recently found on his trip to Vietnam, it might be raining in Hanoi but that doesn’t stop you exploring the city! With a good umbrella or poncho the rain becomes just part of the scenery. Buy a cheap pair of gumboots from the 36 streets and 36 wares and enjoy walking through ankle deep water while seeing the sites of Hanoi. In the evening you can take a break from the rain and watch the unique water puppet show at the Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. The shows... are performed in a waist-deep pool. A large rod supports the puppet under the water and is used by puppeteers, who are normally hidden behind a screen, to control them. Thus the puppets appear to be moving over the water. When the rice fields would flood, the villagers would entertain each other using this form of puppet play. The show is made up of little stories about Vietnamese farm life. Traditional Vietnamese music is played while the puppet dance on the water. See more

03.01.2022 The Eastern & Oriental Express train journey has been travelling from Bangkok to Singapore and vice versa for almost twenty years now. There are short three day two night itineraries or eight day seven night itineraries that further explore Thailand and Malaysia. The beautiful green and cream trains are decorated with wood panelling inside that ooze sophistication and luxury. To celebrate their twentieth birthday they are arranging a special three day two night itinerary that highlights the wonders of South-East Asia and visits the stunning Ban Puen Palace and Phetchaburi for a memorable Elephant greeting. There are still a few spaces left if you want to take part in the 20th Anniversary Celebration Journey departing Singapore on 19Sep13.

02.01.2022 We’re very pleased to once again be able to arrange independent journeys into Tibet. Last year, the Tibetan government was only allowing a minimum of five passengers on the same itinerary and of the same nationality to enter the country at the same time. Luckily, this is no longer the case! Tibet, often known as the roof of the world, is full of beautiful mountainous sceneries and rich religious history. One religious monument is the Potala Palace, which sits on top of Mount ...Potalaka in the heart of Lhasa. The Potala Palace was once the residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to Dharamsala, India during the 1959 Tibetan uprising. The main sections are known as the White and Red Palaces. The White Palace was used as the living quarters of the Dalai Lama and the Red Palace was completely devoted to religious study and Buddhist prayer. The Potala Palace now serves as a museum that gives insight into the Dalai Lama’s life and displays relics from the Ming and Qing Dynasty. You can get to Lhasa by train or flying but we think the train is much more fun! The journey is well worth it and the scenery that you will see from your window is spectacular. InterAsia’s ‘Tibet Experience’ begins in Shanghai and includes the train journey to Lhasa. Extensions can be made to see the nearby Everest Base Camp and Nepal. Another option (Dan’s favourite) is to start in Kathmandu and travel overland across Tibet to Lhasa and then take the train down into China fantastic journey! See more
