23.01.2022 I had the privilege of attending the Grand Opening of the AUMake Diagou Hub in Sydney today. This was an opportunity to interact with diagou (Chinese personal shoppers). The Diagou Hub give small manufacturers like JaKs Macadamia the chance to meet and inform these influential shoppers.

12.01.2022 One of the darkest parts of the beauty industry is the association it has had with animal testing. Moves have been made around the world to ban the testing of cosmetic ingredients and products on animals, but it has been slow progress. In Australia, most people believe that it is illegal to test cosmetics on animals, however it was only this month (March 2019) that the Australian Industrial Chemicals Reform Bill passed both the Senate and House of Representatives. This group ...of six bills were introduced in 2017. Other countries already have bans in place. The major sticking point in this has movement has been China. Up until very recently, China insisted on animal testing to prove product and ingredient safety. Alternative, non-animal testing was not considered satisfactory to prove products safe. In June of 2018, a pilot program was established that could open the door for products to be sold that have not been tested on animals. For the record, JaKs Macadamia skin care lotions are not tested on animals. I can vouch for the safety of our lotions as I have trialled each of them myself. 03.01.2022 A bill, Assembly Bill 495 (AB495), has been introduced to the California Legislature to ban "harmful" ingredients in cosmetics. The authors of the bill, Assembly members Al Muratsuchi and Buffy Wicks, said they were introducing the bill because Californians deserve to know whether the cosmetic products they purchase in the state are not harmful to their health. While cosmetic products sold in the U.S. are largely unregulated, other nationsand even retailershave proactively... banned or restricted the use of hundreds or thousands of cosmetic ingredients." * Among the ingredients that will be banned are: Isobutylparaben Isopropylparaben Butylparaben Propylparaben. 03.01.2022 Everybody has heard that the skin is the largest organ in the body. As we age, the skin starts to deteriorate - dryness, itchiness, cracking etc can occur on the surface of the skin. Beneath the surface, the skin's permeability layer can also start to breakdown. We can see the localized effects, but what happens to the rest of the body system? A group of researchers at the University of California San Francisco and the San Francisco Veterans Administration Health Care System... (SFVA) are examining possible links between skin health and other aging conditions such as Alzheimer's, heart disease and diabetes. As we age we see an increase of a substance known as cytokines. This is the result of inflammation. The theory is that the skin is the only organ large enough where even small or medium levels of inflammation can increase the levels of cytokines throughout the body. Using over the counter creams, the researchers are attempting to reverse the age-related skin damage. We're going to see whether using the cream to keep epidermal function normal as people age will prevent the development of those downstream diseases, said co-author Peter Elias, M.D., a UCSF professor of dermatology based at the SFVA Health Care System. If we do, the implication would be that after the age of 50, you would want to be applying an effective topical barrier repair preparation daily for the rest of your life.
