25.01.2022 At a meeting last night the Committee of Launceston Competition decided to cancel the Speech and Drama, Music and Highland Dancing sections of this year’s compe...titions to be held in May and June. As the Theatrical dance sections are scheduled to be held later in the year it was voted that they be re-assessed on the 27th April. If there is no change in the Coronavirus situation, or it worsens, on or before that date these sections will also be cancelled. If there are any restrictions on the health and well being of participants or the numbers allowed into the theatre these sections will not go ahead. The Committee certainly do not wish to put anyone at risk of contracting the virus. If that is the eventual outcome, all entrants will be offered a refund of their entry fees. It is quite sad for the Committee to have to make these decisions as it is only the second time the competitions have had to be cancelled. The first was in 1935 due to the financial situation at the time.

21.01.2022 I have been getting a few messages asking if classes are still on this week! The answer is YES! I will continue to run classes for as long as possible. That being said it is important that those attending are responsible for their own hygienic practice. I will be supplying hand sanitiser and wiping down/ disinfecting acro equipment at the start and end of each day. Please do not attend if your child is unwell. It is perfectly fine to have a lesson off.... At this point in time students can attend at their parents discretion. I personally don't think there will be any risk. If everyone follows protocol there is no reason why students can't keep dancing in the foreseeable future. Especially for solo lessons which have minimal exposure to others. If your child will not be attending class please out of courtesy let me know in advance. May you all stay healthy and well! Kind regards, Jamie

21.01.2022 I am offering FREE trial lessons to first time students of any classes. Dance is a great way to work on coordination and fitness in a fun and supportive environment. In all my classes students individual creativity is fostered alongside the learning of traditional dance technique.... Students learn tools and methods for not only learning choreography but creating their own. I truly believe dance is more than just learning steps from a teacher, it is an art form. At Jamie's Dance Centre the focus is on developing creative dancers with a greater knowledge of all aspects of dance. There are no exams and participating in competitions and eisteddfods is always optional! See the timetable below and get in touch if you are interested in attending. 19.01.2022 FESTIVAL COMPETITION UPDATE As we are receiving a number of enquiries regarding this years competition, the LFOD Committee would like to provide the following u...pdate. At the May Committee meeting, it was agreed that a decision regarding the holding or postponing of this years competition would be deferred until 12 June. This will allow the Committee extra time to review the restrictions that may be in place (or lifted) regarding the holding of public events / performances later in the year at this time. Our existing 'open for entries' date of 1 June will be pushed out to 1 July and will also be reviewed at our 12 June meeting. Further updates will be provided later next month.

09.01.2022 Unfortunately I am advising everyone that the Theatrical Dance sections of Launceston Competitions will also be cancelled. Therefore there will not be anyone i...n the Princess foyer to receive any further entries tomorrow. The dancing teachers recommended to the Committee that it was better to cancel now than wait until 27th April. The Committee then voted to cancel. The Committee also took into account that the likelihood of the virus problem being more serious and more prolonged than previously thought. Entry fees will be refunded in due course, don’t be impatient.

05.01.2022 The Launceston Competitions thank all entrants for their continued support of our annual event. Unfortunately we are experiencing difficulty deciding the best ...way to refund entry fees. Our options appear to be: (A) post cheques for amounts over $100. (B) Offer full or part refund for smaller amounts. (C) Donation of entry fees. (D) Roll over entry fees for the 2021 competitions. You will need to notify the Secretary by 30th April, 2020 of your choice and method of any reimbursement. If it is to be paid into your bank account you must advise your bank details (BSB and account number) on this notification.

04.01.2022 FESTIVAL 2020 UPDATE The LFOD Executive Committee are devastated to provide the following update in relation to this year's event. This afternoon, we received a... large amount of advice from Public Health in relation to our event and following our review of these requirements, unfortunately it is not viable or practical for our proposed condensed program to go ahead. We understand this will devastate a large number of our dancing community, however we must ensure that the safety of our performers, patrons, volunteers and Committee is paramount. We look forward to seeing you all in 2021 for a bigger and better competition. Kind regards Kim Riley PRESIDENT
