Have a play, finish with a hot chocolate, a feed and warm your toes (dry your socks) by the fire. Hot tip, purchase your gate pass (access to mountain) online to save approx $10 and leave around 7.30am to beat the queues at the gate, the potential of cars blocking the road & have the run to yourselves. A great day out without the crowds of Mt. Tomorrow Saturday 4th January will see a Fire Danger Rating of EXTREM...E in the North East which includes Jamieson and is the second highest rating on the scale. Under these conditions if a fire starts and takes hold, it will be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving, spot fires will start, move quickly and come from many directions. If you are not prepared to the highest level, not physically and mentally prepared leaving high risk bushfire areas (Jamieson and surrounding) early in the day is your safest option. You could consider going to Mansfield for the day monitor the conditions and return when the danger period has passed. The Jamieson Memorial Hall is a place of last resort and should not be considered as the place to go to when leaving early; you need to be out of the area. If you are in Mansfield and need somewhere to go to get off the street out of the heat and sit down with others in the same situation the hall alongside St Mary’s Catholic Church in Hunter Street Mansfield will be open for as long as needed. All National Parks and State forest are closed for recreational purposes. The Jamieson Fire Station will be open today Friday 3rd January 2020 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM with Brigade members available to answer questions and provide valuable information on the current situation. The Jamieson Brigade is well prepared with over 20 volunteers available over this period. We’ve had many a great day being sneezed on by camels, watched the lions being fed and laughed at the cheeky meerkats. Plenty of gumboots available to borrow and space for the kids to roam.
