17.01.2022 The Cakewalk is a dance form found in piano music and beyond. Heather Agyepong reclaims and reframes images of the Cakewalk, a Black American dance genre with a complex history from the 19th and 20th centuries that shows up in classical music repertoire such as Claude Debussys Golliwogs Cakewalk and Scott Joplins Swipesey Cakewalk as well as music for his opera, Treemonisha.

02.01.2022 Dr. Bertice Berry speaks about how we tell the story of the past, present and future, the narrative arc on the grand scale and the personal story at the core. As musicians, we often ask these questions of the music we perform; how pieces begin, the melodic or harmonic journey they express, and the rhythm of their cadence and closure. As artists, our work needs to incorporate the narratives of the music we perform, and also needs to be about how our artistry plays a role in the narratives of injustice/justice that Dr. Berry describes. What will we leave to the next generations by way of the songs we sing today?

02.01.2022 "It is not so much the amount of practice, as the kind of practice that counts. It is the constant effort to acquire precision that leads to success" (Palmer Method Handwriting Manual)
