25.01.2022 How pregnancy tests work you may be wondering? Pregnancy tests check your urine or blood for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone is produced during pregnancy and can be detected as early as 10 days after conception, when a fertilised egg attaches to your womb. If hCG is found in your blood or urine it is highly likely that you are pregnant. Make an appointment to see your GP to confirm the results.

20.01.2022 How do you prepare emotionally for your babies arrival? Have you experienced having all of the emotions at once during pregnancy? If not, it can feel like youre going a little crazy. Theres no way of knowing exactly how youll feel once youve given birth, and even the emotions that will arise during the process. What you can practice now is being gentle and kind with yourself when you have an emotion arise that is unfamiliar or different than you were expecting. Taking dee...p breaths will always help (breathing is very important during labor!). Create a network of support for yourself so that if you feel overwhelmed youre able to reach out and get the help you need. If somebody wants to be in the room with you while youre giving birth and the idea of them being there stresses you or your partner out, its OK to say no to that person. Speaking kindly with yourself when you feel emotionally full or drained. Reach out and get connected to people who uplift you. Note any resentment or stress that you feel about your life currently. What can you do to resolve that? Who or what needs to be forgiven? #Pregnancy #Maternity #Greenslopes #Health #Wellbeing #Baby

19.01.2022 Each private health insurance is different and no two are the same. The best thing to do when considering going to Jelly Bean Maternity is to gather as much possible information from your private health insurer regarding your pregnancy care at a private hospital. Some things to ask your insurer (but not limited to): Any and all relevant waiting periods Level of hospital excess... Level of obstetric cover See more

19.01.2022 Why am I so tired? Growing a baby obviously takes a toll on your body. Dont ignore the signals your body is sending you. Reach out to others if youre struggling to sleep throughout your pregnancy. Ask for help from your partner. Most pregnant women should spend at least 8 hours in bed, aiming for at least 7 hours of sleep every night. If possible, try going to sleep a little earlier than usual.... In addition to hormonal changes, physical and emotional changes also lower your energy levels and make you feel fatigued. Some of these changes include: increased levels of estrogen and progesterone (which, by the way, acts as a natural sedative) lower blood pressure and blood sugar increased blood flow disrupted sleep digestion issues morning sickness stress and anxiety frequent urination heartburn back, hip, and pelvic pain When to contact your doctor or midwife If insomnia, restless legs syndrome (the uncontrollable urge to move your legs while resting), sleep apnea (a potentially serious disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts), preeclampsia, or any other condition is hindering your sleep, talk to your doctor or midwife during your next appointment. Other reasons to contact your doctor or midwife include, if you: feel concerned that the pregnancy fatigue is a sign of something more, like anemia, gestational diabetes, or depression develop any changes in your vision experience dizziness urinate less frequently have shortness of breath, pain in your upper abdomen, or heart palpitations experience severe headaches notice a swelling of your hands, ankles, and feet Your healthcare practitioner can help you uncover any problems and offer additional solutions. #Maternity #Pregnant #Tired #Facts

18.01.2022 Can you drink coffee if you're pregnant? Dietitian Melanie McGrice says while you don't need to cut out caffeine entirely, it can be in the best interests of mum and baby to cut back. "Australian guidelines recommend you limit your intake to less than 200 milligrams per day," she says.... "So, that's about one to two instant coffees a day and two to three cups of tea. "The coffees you buy at a cafe tend to contain more caffeine than instant coffee, so you're best sticking to just one cappuccino or latte a day. "Interestingly though, a lot of women just don't have that desire for caffeinated beverages during pregnancy."

02.01.2022 Today is Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness day. Metastatic breast cancer is when cancer cells have spread from the original cancer site in the breast to more distant parts of the body. It is said that about 6% of women have metastatic breast cancer when they are first diagnosed. (Cancer.net). This is reminder to us all that it is important we are checking our breasts regularly and seeking medical advice early on if you are ever concerned. In view of this very important day, we will be drawing our breast cancer awareness giveaway later on, so stay tuned for that. x

It has also been linked to just about every health condition under the sun! In addition to having numerous benefits for bone, brain, cardiovascular, immune, metabolic, and respiratory health vitamin D is a critical nutrient for a healthy pregnancy.
