24.01.2022 The new earrings called for new display/ packaging. It's not funny how there is often just as much thought and almost as much material and invested energy in the disposable packaging that surround our products as there is in the products themselves.

23.01.2022 The most recent art creation is the result of experiments in geodesic shapes. The steel that this is made from is designed to rust so the work will take on new colours and textures as it ages.

22.01.2022 Phew! I was planning on 3D modeling the part then machining it on a CNC router. After looking at the ski boot I noticed that these things were old and had been patched up many many times already. I also found a replacement part in the internet. As the client was just trying to squeeze another season out of them we cut up an old chopping board and drilled a some strategically placed screw holes. It is refreshing to see people mending things. Bring on the fixing revolution.

22.01.2022 More cut out stencil work. This is a contrasting layered plywood feature end panel for a kitchen bench.

22.01.2022 Putting together a few more sets of earrings for tomorrow night's Sandgate State School P&C fashion parade. So much shiny acrylic - I'm having 1980's flashbacks.

21.01.2022 The furniture design and making continues. In my job at the QUT art and design studios I am always encouraged to increase my skill base. Metalwork is something relatively new to me so welding up the legs for this new long bench seat was certainly a learning experience. The timber is some very hard wood that is yet to be identified but is possibly bloodwood (corymbia).

20.01.2022 To continue the theme, here are more new earrings. Speech bubbles for people who don't have anything to say.

20.01.2022 New drop earrings made from satin acrylic with stainless steel hooks and rings.

19.01.2022 This simple geodesic dome was made from fluted cardboard, cut with a CNC plotter. Connecting the pieces was easily achieved by using reusable screws made by Makedo. For those will less access to super cool tools they could be cut by hand.

16.01.2022 Here is the sculpture again, this time with dramatic lighting.

16.01.2022 Halloween is coming and despite my best efforts to fight against it, the greatest fear of our generation, the fear of missing out, has won the battle. These cute bats are to be hung up and down my street to let the kids know where to knock.

16.01.2022 After an extended making process, Lazy Susan - mark two is nearing completion. This project has given me a great respect for people who do marquetry and other decorative woodwork. Two coats of tung oil have been applied and another 3 or 4 are yet to be rubbed in over the next week. I love how the timber changes color and reflects light differently when viewed from different locations.

15.01.2022 Working with the guys from Albany Creek's new Conexio Games Café has been a fun experience. We created a few cafe staples with their logos and iconography as well as a some other fun things. The cafe should be open very soon - looking forward to discovering some new games.

15.01.2022 The latest 3D scan and print is of Sam, our current au pair.

14.01.2022 Making jewellery for an upcoming event. Just need to find a chain for the pendant and it will be done.

14.01.2022 Dressing up a wooden lazy susan with a laser engraved mandala pattern.

12.01.2022 More earrings. They're a commission for a very important client (my wife Pippa wanted a gift for a friend from work). The 'e' is a schwa. When I asked if it was OK being upside down it replied, "I'm not stressed." (Phonology joke).

11.01.2022 With the help of my 9 year old son I'm making a bunch of Pokémon name tags for party prizes. The glossy acrylic looks great.

11.01.2022 The cardboard fun continues. This stool is made by cross laminating layers of fluted cardboard. Thanks to stuff that I learnt when studying industrial design it is super strong and surprisingly comfortable.

10.01.2022 Oh look, a little model of me. All scanned, manipulated and printed here in the studio.

10.01.2022 Another pendant almost finished.

09.01.2022 Laser cut leather bookmarks. The results are good but the smell of burning flesh that emanates from the laser cutter can be a little off putting.

09.01.2022 A recent commission... Hand made recycled hardwood cheese board, laser engraved to commemorate a families’ arrival to Australia. The food grade Tung oil finish will give a warm deep finish as it dries and hardens.

09.01.2022 More laser cut acrylic earrings following today's theme.

08.01.2022 The best thing about working in a school of design is teaching by doing. This coffee table was the result of teaching someone to use digital design software to quickly generate radially symmetrical patterns.

08.01.2022 When someone says "Wayne, I've got a design challenge for you" I usually get a bit excited. When the request was to remake a broken heel of a ski boot from a cardboard shape and a few fragments of rubber my excitement soon disappeared. I'm now embarking on a new adventure into Industrial Design Forensics. To be continued...

08.01.2022 As the sign says, the Conexio board game cafe is open. In addition to some signage and the table caddies I also made some cool coffee duster templates to suit the theme.

07.01.2022 This welded steel structure is another piece being featured at the Sandgate Art Society show over The Easter weekend. Its hard to tell where the steel ends and the shadow starts.

06.01.2022 I was playing around with very basic hammered metal shaping and finishing and came up with these earrings. Anybody want them?

06.01.2022 Recently I was asked if the laser cutter could handle vintage lino. The age of the lino meant that is was very brittle, making hand cutting a difficult process. After a few tests we found that it did indeed cut quite well. Flooring salvaged from an old family home is now becoming cute owl wall hangings. Well done Lyndal OGorman.

06.01.2022 The most recent design project - a pair of beside tables featuring camphor laurel tops and bent steel legs.

05.01.2022 Unusual requests are always the most fun ones. These risk management knuckle dusters made from black and mirror acrylic are very near the top of the list of unusual things that Ive been asked to make.

04.01.2022 More earrings for the upcoming show.

04.01.2022 Pay a visit to Mr Henderson in Sandgate to see my latest creation (and stay for a cold drink). With a bit of trickery I was able to cut a piece of plywood larger than my laser cutter. It involved removing a few panels, so that the sheet of wood could be passed through the machine. The logo was then cut in 3 stages with some very careful lining up between each cut.

03.01.2022 Over the last few months I have had the pleasure of working alongside the team at Pakko, a local manufacturer of cardboard packaging and display products. Nina, the owner, kindly modeled for my latest 3D sculpture. There will certainly be more cardboard creations coming soon.

03.01.2022 After a long break from creating my own projects Im glad to say that Ill have three works at the Sandgate Art Society show at this years Bluewater Festival. This is a view of the glasshouse mountains recreated from thin veneers of Australian timbers.

01.01.2022 Recent experiments with laser cutting leather has been very fruitful. So far I've made a few hats and a variety of bags, including these cute little coin purses.
