22.01.2022 The sign of some creative fun with nature #naturepaintings So much creativity today!

21.01.2022 Happy Diwali During this week the children engaged in many meaningful experiences to recognise and celebrate Diwali that begins tomorrow. The children measured, stirred, poured and awakened their sense of smell as they helped Baljinder make sweet biscuits with cardamom, YUM!! Baljinder brought in her diyas to share with us all. After a conversation about what they represent we lit the diyas and let them burn until the oil ran out (the children were very excited with this). We sat in a circle and made wishes around the diyas welcoming light and happiness. After this beautiful grounding experience some children decided to make their very own diyas out of air dry clay which when dried were painted in bright colours.

16.01.2022 Science week 2020: the theme we’ve been exploring this year is deep blue. Did you know sharks have no bones in their bodies and the male sea horse carry the eggs of their babies in a pouch similar to a kangaroo. As we explore the children’s favourite sea creatures further through intentional teaching methods the children have also been engaging in play to investigate and explore their ideas further. So far this week they have helped clean up an oil spill in the ocean manipu...lating objects such as spoons, sponges and absorbent paper to explore the best method of cleaning up the oil out of the ocean. The children also engaged their senses as they explored a number of sensory tubs filled with soapy foam. They were encouraged to find the rubbish amongst the sea animals and place the rubbish in the correct bins. Did you have any fun science experiments you’d like to share with us? See more

16.01.2022 The joys of mud ~ reconnecting with our Earth Exploring mud encourages creativity, cooperative play, fine and gross motor skills, turn taking and builds problem solving skills. 16.01.2022 Children today had so much fun preparing our sushi with my Sushi maker. Firstly they sliced up avocado, cucumber, snow peas and carrots. Next we took turns at putting the sushi rice, tuna and veggies in the machine and clamping it shut. The favorite part for the children was painting the Nori with water and squeezing out the sushi roll onto the Nori and rolling it up. They can't wait to try it for afternoon tea.

14.01.2022 Eating the Rainbow ~ Blue 30.7.20 A group gathered to make some yummy Blueberry and Chia muffins with Baljinder and Vee. The children showed cooperation and confidence as they measured and mixed the ingredients together. We were lucky to be given the blueberries on our excursion to the Farmer's market.... Thank you to Tara (Baye and Banjo's Mum) @Bayeleafandabanjo for sharing this delicious recipe with us. We have decided it will be a regular for us at Joey's. The children gathered for Afternoon tea to enjoy the muffins together. Children have a sense of wellbeing as they learn about healthy eating. Children develop knowledge and appreciation of produce within our community. Will post the recipe in comments too!

12.01.2022 Thought the children might like to see this video of my place Shiloah as they ask about the gardens and animals and where the guinea pigs live when not at Joeys. So here it is . Might keep them interested for 10 minutes or so. The seedlings that they each planted have been terminating in my hot house and you can see the growth here in the video. Cheers robyn

12.01.2022 We have had a fun week learning all about the Deep Blue for Science week.

11.01.2022 Children enjoyed a visit to the local markets to identify and purchase some local produce for upcoming cooking experiences. Blueberry muffins with Sue Thursday and sushi making with me Friday. Thanks so much to the Blueberry vendor who gave the children a huge bucket of blueberries. Very yummy.

10.01.2022 Eating the rainbow ~ Indigo Grow, harvest, prepare and share. Today we made a yummy indigo inspired salad. A group of children gathered to harvest some lettuce from our garden. We had a discussion about the different vegetables we were going to add to the lettuce including a red cabbage, red onion and some sweet potato.... We displayed fine motor skills and concentration as we cut up the vegetables. We noticed all the different lines/patterns on the inside. We also talked about how they are grown and the different varieties of each vegetable. We prepared and mixed the ingredients together and shared it around for lunch. Children develop sustainable practices through gardening experiences. They are becoming socially responsible and show respect for the environment in which food is produced. Children become knowledgeable and confident in recognising and choosing healthy food.

09.01.2022 Jingi Walla to Uncle Boomerang! We had such a fun day learning and sharing knowledge of Aboriginal culture. We were all so curious, intrigued and inspired by this experience. Uncle Boomerang shared stories, songs, dances and taught us how to throw a boomerang. We also did some wonderful handprints with ochre. The children were able to break up the ochre with a rock and add water to create the paint. Thank you Uncle Boomerang, we look forward to seeing you again soon.

04.01.2022 So much thanks to Alfio's family who brought in some amazing bush tucker for children to smell, feel and taste. Some lemon myrtle leaves, aniseed, finger limes, Davidson plums and fantastic jams which the children tasted and received high approval. All from Bucks Farm owned by Alfio's grandad. We appreciate your addition to our bush tucker and sustainability program. Call into Bucks Farm at Chillingham for a more extensive tour. So many varieties of bush tucker ingredient to see.

03.01.2022 Chrysalis children have been discussing how to be a kind and caring friend to others. During these experiences we discussed what our hands are used for and we all agreed they are definitely not for hitting!! Some suggestions were hands are for hugging, clapping, drawing and eating. We have been reading many different stories on being a kind friend. Yesterday after the story kind the children explored charcoal to draw self portraits which they then painted with water coloured paint. Links to the early years learning framework: Learning outcome 1: children learn to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect.
