21.01.2022 Severe Thunderstorm Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in Goldfields and parts of South East Coastal districts. Issued at 4:15 pm Sunday, 1 November 2020.... An area of thunderstorms in the Goldfields and northern South East Coastal may produce damaging winds. Weather Situation: A trough through the Goldfields is producing a large area of thunderstorms. These thunderstorms are expected to move to the south southeast and continue into this evening. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Kalgoorlie, Norseman, Leinster, Leonora, Menzies and Wiluna. A 109 km/h (59 knot) wind gust was reported from Wiluna Airport at 6.04 pm Sunday. The overall weather pattern is not unusual for this time of year but severe weather may occur in some parts of the warning area. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. * Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. * Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. * If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home. * If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. * Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. * Slow down and turn your headlights on. * Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. * If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.

08.01.2022 While we were hunkered down indoors last weekend, the SES were out in the storm helping their community. It looks like round 2 is here for the long weekend a...nd although this front is typical for this time of year, it can still pack a punch! Check out the vision of the SES in action last weekend, working through the 500+ requests for assistance - one of which required a bit of help from career firefighters and their Combined Ladder Platform (CLP). This type of job is not something the SES would usually assist with, however the loose roof sheeting on this building had the potential to come loose and blow across Leach Highway, posing a risk to passing motorists! 02.01.2022 I have noticed visits to our page increase after we have received a callout, so to satisfy the curious... This morning we received a call to attend a small scrub fire, just off Anzac drive. In less than 10 minutes, we had 9 volunteers report to the station, turning out with a crew of 8 across 3 appliances. The fire was quickly contained, controlled and mopped up within 30 minutes of the call coming through.... We couldn't be more thankful for our members, their families and their employees who all make sacrifices so these positive outcomes are possible. 01.01.2022 Western Australia is a beautiful and incredibly diverse place that we are fortunate enough to call home. Diverse not only in our landscape but also in our peopl...e. From the Tjaltraak Rangers in Esperance, to bushfire-prone Noongar country in our South West, through the Western Desert and up to our cyclone prone North, home of the Yawuru people we share this vast State with the oldest living culture in the world. The invaluable knowledge passed down through the generations of traditional owners still informs how we work on the land today, our understanding of the flora, fauna and seasons as well as the many words we use every day that originate from this ancient culture. This week is an important one for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across the country, and Reconciliation WA are encouraging everyone to take a moment to acknowledge the traditional owners wherever they might be in Australia. #InThisTogether
