25.01.2022 A bit of worm observation, research and discovery this week. We discovered that the worms dont like the light and try to wiggle away back under the soil. I was told "maybe they are looking for their mummy and daddy"

23.01.2022 When self directed learning leads to a child deciding what resources and materials they might like to use and deciding how the want to use them. Here the younger sibling has inspired his older sister to move from squirting paint onto the paper to selecting a tool of chose that is similar to smear the blobs of colour into each other. it was lovely to see siblings side by side learning from each other.

23.01.2022 The happy sounds of a child enjoying themself while being creative.

18.01.2022 Child Care workers ARE essential. Without us, government agencies cant respond to the media and the public. Without us, bus and train drivers cant get to thei...r jobs, bringing others to theirs. Without us, police and firefighters, dispatch and other support staff cant respond to those in need. Without us, grocery store staff, restaurant staff, hardware staff, mechanics and others cant get to their jobs so others can eat and provide transportation and safe homes for their families. Without us, nurses, doctors, and other essential health personnel cant be there, putting themselves at risk to keep us all healthy. Without us, those that care for others like seniors in skilled nursing and assisted living, the mentally ill, the incarcerated, and the poorest among us cant do their jobs serving. Without us, teachers cant work on Zoom, Skype, and other online forums to make sure our school-agers and college students keep moving along despite extreme situations. Without us, entire industries cant operate. Essential workers (many whom I have forgotten and I apologize) need us. We have largely been forgotten. We are the ones that meet the basic needs of our most vulnerable population and we are stressed, underpaid on a good day, and unsure how to proceed. Yet we all come to work every day, sometimes greeted by snot (and worse!), operate on the thinnest of margins, and do it all with smiles on our faces because we love what we do. We think of the children in our care as family. Our coworkers as family. Our worksites as home. Please dont forget all those that help others to do their jobs during a crisis. Feel free to share. We may sometimes feel invisible but we are NOT voiceless.

17.01.2022 And the seeds are in. Now to water them and watch them grow. Waffles the Guinea Pig will love his new Spinach and Kale Garden grown and cared for by our tiny hands.

16.01.2022 April is Autism Acceptance Month. Many people have an understanding of Autism that is based on little more than stringing together a few popular stereotypes. Th...is video aims to help fill the gaps by cutting through the medical jargon and sharing instead the human side of Autism. In the past few decades the world has come a long way in its understanding of Autism. This is not least due to the contributions of autistic adults shedding insight into their own condition. Autism Explained empowers parents to understand their autistic children and create healthy supportive environments. By combining the experience of an adult on the Spectrum with a single mum who lives this stuff every day, we set you on the path to regain family harmony and actually enjoy time with your kids! 13.01.2022 The children express wonder and interests in their outdoor environment.Children develop understandings of themselves and their world through active, hands-on investigation. Through caring for other living things the children are able to explore relationships with other living and non-living things and observe, notice and respond to change. This morning we made a habitat for our new friends. Miss 3 responded with "We dont live in a habitat we live in a house" We also spoke about how we would care for our new friends and what they might like to eat. We will take care of their new home, feed them and observe them as they grow.

12.01.2022 I just love taking photos of the children hands and feet while happily playing. I find their hands and feet can say so much in a photo about how content they are, how hard they might be concentrating, how challenging something might be for them, curiosity, joy and wonder in their learning.

12.01.2022 Found this in my photos. No idea where it came from so I cant offer any attribution, but it made me laugh out loud! Anything else perfectly depict life with a toddler for you?

06.01.2022 AUTISM MYTH #1 Autism is a defect In fact, most people on the spectrum (and the people who love them) would argue that they are the most effective and ordered... people of all! Find out more about how how to connect, build affection, and manage emotions in your ASD child at this live webinar with Dr Justin Coulson and special guest Dr Michelle Garnett https://www.happyfamilies.com.au/product/asd/ Please note that all live webinars are included in Happy Families Memberships. 05.01.2022 The wonder of light! Torches have become a big part of daily play as children shine their torches on resources, walls, furniture, cubby houses, body parts, worms experimentating with how light works. We even played a game of hide and seek with torches and made our own colourful light box.

04.01.2022 Some things I just have to share. Today we went for a little nature walk and on our walk we built a pretend fire from the fallen and broken branches in our environment. We danced around the fire like emus and crocodiles, gnashing our teeth and using our hands as beaks . We even sang 'Wombat Stew'. We pretended to be cold and one of the littlies put his hands over top of the fire to warm up his hands. LO3, LO4, LO2

01.01.2022 I just love capturing moments such as this when children are so engaged with their play and learning that they dont even know they are learning. Tipping and pouring coordinating their hand movements and sensory as they feel the water perhaps spill onto their tiny foot and see the water splashing into the container. They are also learning to self regulate learning that there decisions will have natural consequences, eye-hand coordination as they develop the ability to gain control of pouring from one container to another and stop, shift, etc and independence as they learn that they can pour their own drinks and take care of self tasks.
