22.01.2022 Players from Karratha joined our neighbours at the Wickham Squash Club for the Kirby Klassic this afternoon. Not a normal squash competition but a timed event of 7 minute intervals and if you are late you could find yourself behind in points. The event was a fundraiser for a club member who was passed away unexpectedly with proceeds going to the family. 18 players enjoyed the fun and antics of the afternoon. The usual rules were thrown out the door and provided you could ser...ve you were half way there. Apart from the American scoring that was applied, good sportsmanship was non existent in a father son match with dad winning after kicking the ball to all corners of the court to waste time. In another game serves were made from the front half of the court. No lets were available. In the second round all players had to use the old wooden squash racquets with a small circular string area from the 70’s. Surprisingly most players adapted quickly to the changes. Well done Wickham and to all those involved.

05.01.2022 Pennants is 5 weeks into an 8 week season and the teams are jostling for a top 2 finish. Team 6 comprising of Glen, Preston, Jordan and John are streaking away with their team recording strong wins each week. They sit on 20 points with Teams 1 & 2 on 15 points each. This week Preston was pushed by Dan to win narrowly 3-2. Jordan ran rings around Brian winning 3-1. Shane and Karn pushed each other to the limit with tight drives. Shane finished victor 3-1. Declan fought bravely... taking Steph to a fifth game but unfortunately he did not have enough juice to get over the line. Rohan caught Frenchy sleeping in the first game but Frenchy then pulled all stops to take the next three games convincingly. Paul and Manas appeared to be having an afternoon training session with non-stop drives down the wall and the occasional poor shot back into the centre. No killer shots were apparent and it was simply a game of attrition. Manas came off second best going down 1-3 to a smiling Vice President. Kelsie played her best to out thwart Simon but Simon took the honours in the fourth game. See more

Up and coming junior Preston Munro was learning the ropes and working through the pennant competition ranks. Always present on club nights practicing against higher ranked players, Preston is now pushing for a spot in A Grade against our finest members. Recently he also had a very successful country week competition in B Grade against the best of WA country teams. The other player has been Stephanie Branch-Smith who also is a very familiar face every club night and many other nights during the week practicing with Rhys Collins. Steph has been a great contributor to the club and has made tremendous improvement in her squash abilities. Congratulations to all winners today.
