From NSW Police Force There are intermittent cl...osures of all westbound and eastbound lanes of the highway between Wentworth Falls and Mount Victoria. Motorists already in the area are advised to follow the directions of emergency services and traffic crews in the area. Motorists should also slow down, exercise caution and drive to the conditions, which can change quickly. Snow and ice is also affecting nearby roads such as: The Mitchell Highway between Orange and Bathurst Roads in and around Oberon Jenolan Caves Road and Duckmaloi Road between Hartley, Jenolan and Oberon The Mid Western Highway around Fitzgeralds Mount (between Blayney and Bathurst) Additionally, Route 685, 686, 697 and 698 buses are not running in and around Katoomba due to the snow in the area. The 7:02am Mount Victoria to Central train and the 9:54am Central to Mount Victoria train have also been cancelled due to the extreme weather. For people in Illawarra, Snowy Mountains and parts of South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Australian Capital Territory Forecast Districts. VIGOROUS ALPINE WINDS FROM LATE MONDAY Weather Situation: Vigorous northwesterly winds to develop over the south east of the state ahead of a strong winter cold front. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 120 km/h are expected to develop for areas above 1900 metres from later tonight and to continue during Tuesday. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with gust in excess of 90 km/h are possible to develop below 1900 metres from mid-morning Tuesday, beginning around elevated parts of the Snowy Mountains, Southern Tablelands, ACT, Illawarra and far eastern South West Slopes and extending to parts of eastern Central Tablelands by late Tuesday and into early Wednesday. BLIZZARDS are likely from Tuesday about the Alpine. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve. 07.01.2022 In response to the recent Covid 19 scare regarding a Taxi in the west and south west of Sydney, Katoomba Taxis would like to assure the local community that we are continuing to do everything to reduce the risk to passengers and our drivers. Our drivers are constantly updated with new directions and procedures as provided by the Health department, NSW Point to Point Transport Commission and the NSW Taxi Council. Drivers are required wear face masks and wipe down all hard se...rvices regularly. We also require the use of hand sanitiser throughout their service. To keep to with the current social distancing practice of 1.5 metres, we are still requiring all passengers to sit in the back seat of our Taxis and we strongly recommend passengers also wear face masks and handle their own luggage.
