25.01.2022 I coloured some hair today.

23.01.2022 I have finally updated my website with the two larger projects I worked on last year. Check it out here: http://www.kgodesign.net/index#/naturallyfertile/

23.01.2022 Just working out colour, balance of composition and a few of the smaller details. :)

20.01.2022 Update: I've been working on a couple of things, a little pretend preschool brand identity just for me and some illustrated sets for a larger ongoing project. I don't have a lot of time to spend on the larger project's illustrations so I sunk a bit of time into thinking about how to streamline the process and after looking at other really detailed illustrations I twigged that I could take small simple elements and smush them together in different ways to make larger more complex blocks which then in turn could be combined in different ways. In hindsight I feel like this must be super obvious but better late than never I guess. Anyway I'm really liking making patterns, it's neato working out the registration kinks and visual weight issues and then seeing it just start tiling seamlessly across endless pixels of screen. :D

18.01.2022 Noodling intensifies- holy crap look at the hourohshit.

06.01.2022 Truly amazing. Truly truly amazing.

04.01.2022 Still not quite done but I feel it is nearing completion. And it's pre 1am. Huzzah!

02.01.2022 Attending local creative conference MakeitMadeit. On break from the three hours of fascinating talks given by creatives on their respective practices. Learnt about the path New Zealand artist Grace Wright took towards developing her current style and the way she focuses on building connections within and outside the fine arts industry to push herself forward. :) Clint Harvey, an Australian designer showed off the work his analog typography based studio has achieved and its e...fforts to ammass a variety of Australasian print presses and type collections. Was surprised to learn about the difficulty in finding Australian made wood type since apparently the sets mostly ended up as kindling once digital print came along. It's a beautiful creative field that comes with this incredibly high level of technical knowledge and the technology produces really distinctive work. I love the mixture of creative experimemtatuon and cultural/technical knowledge preservation it champions. Last up before the break was Yasmin Naghavi a solictor at media arts lawyers. In some ways her talk was the most useful in that it's the aspect of the design I'm least well versed in. (Theres an ocean of things I should know more about but this one sticks out..) I think broadly what I took away was the tension between creator and client as far as ownership and copyright assignment vs licensing goes. It clarified some of the things I should be asking and clarifying prior to agreeing to a job and the way I should think about use of my work. I guess over all the one thing I've noticed is the level of planning and foresight and vision these wizards all have in one way or another. The presence of a plan and their ability to move towards it decisively is something I really admire. I already plan to some extent but I want to feel more decisive about the process. Anyway, those are my noodlings so far. I'm gonna finish my late breakfast and head back for more.

02.01.2022 Still doin, still brewin.

02.01.2022 I really loved the introduction to True Detective, I appreciate hearing about how the different time frames effect what level of narrative depth is conveyed in the piece.

01.01.2022 Hello! Some News: I'm moving down to Melbourne (I've actually been down here a couple of days.) to see what I can learn and ideally break out of a long rut I've been in. I'm still keen to work on your freelance jobs but I also want to see if I can find somewhere to sharpen my design teeth, I wish to experience working in a team with other designers and especially learn from more senior ones. ... You can reach me at my email/phone/facebook if you need me. So yeah, I guess I'm pretty excited. :3

01.01.2022 I get you wombat. I get you.

01.01.2022 I have, finally. Updated my site with two new jobs.
