23.01.2022 As we age there are changes to our skin, bones and nails. We may lose the fatty cushioning on the bottoms of our feet and the skin can become thinner. There may be changes to bony structures such as our toes and conditions such as arthritis may develop. Nails can become thicker and hard to cut. Most of these problems can be managed with regular maintenance of the feet, appropriate footwear and sometimes cushioned insoles can be of benefit. You can manage your feet yourself at... home if you’re able to or ask a family member for help if you have difficulty reaching or seeing your feet. Alternatively you can see a Podiatrist for assistance; we love to help people get the best out of their feet. Taking good care of your feet helps to keep you active and mobile. They have done such a great job carrying you so far, so make sure you look after them! @foothealthau #foothealthweek2020 #FootHealthAus

06.01.2022 With kids heading back to school after spending some extra time at home it’s a good idea to check the length and width of school shoes Their feet spend a lot of time growing while in school shoes so it’s important to check that they fit correctly. Podiatrist and shoe stores are great for this, but here’s some easy tips you can use at home:... Make sure there's about 1cm of room at the end of the shoe - and remember to check the longest toe (it isn’t always the big one!) Check that the toes can move freely How do they fit at the heel? They shouldn’t be loose but they shouldn’t be too tight either If you’re having trouble with checking the fit, or have any other concerns regarding your child’s lower limbs please don’t hesitate to contact us! Our Podiatrists are trained in the assessment and management of people of all ages, we also stock a great range of children’s shoes at our Wallan clinic.

05.01.2022 Gait analysis: With every step we take, our bones, joints, muscles and tendons from the hips to the toes all work together to make each step happen. This is called a gait cycle. A gait analysis is the assessment of your walking or running pattern.... During a gait analysis, a Podiatrist can observe the patterns in the gait cycle that may be causing certain parts of the leg or foot to become painful. At our clinic, a video gait analysis is used as a part of every biomechanical assessment We use software on our iPad that allows us to slow the speed right down, so we can break down and analyse every tiny movement. This is an incredibly useful tool for getting to the root cause of injuries.
