23.01.2022 Snow on the Great Western Tiers, near Cressy, northern #Tasmania.

23.01.2022 Seven years ago, to the day, we flew over Roebuck Bay and I took this shot...the colours never fail to amaze.

18.01.2022 Sorting out some images for a client this afternoon, I came across these images from our flight over Fitzroy Crossing during the big wet in March 2011...a magical and very memorable day flying around the Fitzroy Valley and floodplain, and over Dimond and Geikie Gorges. All images Annabelle Sandes and Richard Costin 2018. www.kimberleystockphotos.com.au

17.01.2022 Interesting reading about Kimberley dolphins.

17.01.2022 Another view from the top of Ben Lomond, northern Tasmania. Theres still snow on the peaks.

16.01.2022 Fantastic news that the WA state environment minister has decided that Adele Island and Mavis and Beagle Reefs will be included in the WA State Buccaneer Marine Park. Congratulations to the folks at likenowhereelse.org.au who advocated for the inclusion. You can view a gallery of Adele Island images from our various visits to the islands and reefs at the link below.

16.01.2022 Seeing John French's wonderful photos of a dead whale at Montgomery Reef prompted me to share this image from 2007. Whilst filming for Richard's film "Wildwater Country", we happened across a dead whale at Hall Point in Camden Sound and watched, over the course of a spring and neap tide cycle, as the whale gradually decomposed. We counted six large crocodiles and a multitude of crocs of gradually decreasing size in the tideline feeding on chunks of whale meat. The carcass eventually deflated like a flat tyre, coating the rocks in a rubbery blanket, and spreading a slick of whale oil out to Montgomery Reef. Don't mention the smell! #whale #crocodiles #MontgomeryReef #KimberleyCoast #CamdenSound

14.01.2022 Taken on this day in 2007: Several days before this shot was taken, we found the carcass on the rocks at Hall Point in Camden Sound, left high and dry at the end of the spring tides. The carcass provided a feast for Tiger Sharks and Crocodiles for several weeks, gradually deflating as the whale blubber was rendered into oil by the sun. The spreading oil left a characteristic mark along the tidelines of the Kimberley coast, reaching as far as Montgomery Reef to the west and Doubtful Bay to the south.

14.01.2022 Spring snow on The Great Western Tiers in northern Tasmania this morning. Tasmania really is "the Switzerland of the south".

13.01.2022 We can never get enough of our majestic Humpback whales.

12.01.2022 Throwback Thursday: First light on Wailgwin Island as Richard set off to photograph and film whales in the waters of Camden Sound. Based on a houseboat for three months in 2007, we moved around the coast, following the humpback whale migration at the peak of the calving season. The islands and reefs of the Kimberley coast provide protection for the cows after theyve given birth in the warm, tropical waters.

12.01.2022 View from the top of Ben Lomond, the second highest peak in Tasmania.

09.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what different whales sound like? Check out this interesting graphic developed by NOAA.

08.01.2022 This little Humpback whale calf was spotted rolling around on the surface next to her Mum out near Adele Island, the farthest island off the Kimberley coast.

08.01.2022 Interesting article from todays Australian, featuring one of our images of Kimberley humpbacks. This shot was taken off Wilson Point on the Kimberley coast in August 2007, and was earmarked as one of the possible sites for oil and gas development.

06.01.2022 The stunning cliffs in Cyclone Creek, near the Horizontal Waterfalls in Talbot Bay on the #Kimberleycoast. Intense pressure in the past contributed to dramatic folding in the sandstone.

05.01.2022 Early morning light on the beautiful Macquarie River, south of Cressy, in Tasmanias northern midlands.

05.01.2022 Throwback to 2007...this smallish croc was feeding on remnants of a whale carcass that had washed up at Hall Point in Camden Sound on the Kimberley coast. See yesterdays post for an image of the whale. #kimberleystockphotos

03.01.2022 #Longford #Tasmania in flood, yesterday and today. The South Esk River peaked at 7.3m last night at 9.12pm. A flood levee, built in 2006 successfully kept the water at bay. #tasfloods

03.01.2022 "Steamfest" at Sheffield, northern Tasmania, yesterday. Some wonderful old machinery, a recreation by the Tasmanian Lighthorse, and a working bullock team.

03.01.2022 Scrolling through a file of images this morning, I found this image of a handsome Frill-necked lizard at Mt Hart on the Gibb River Road. Frill-necked lizards are hard to photograph on trees as they move to the opposite side of the tree to escape detection; we did several rounds of the tree to get this photo. Scientists have recently discovered that the colour of the reptiles frill is influenced by diet. #kimberleymedia #kimberleystockphotos
