Check out this gorgeous Little Pygmy-possum thanks to Chelsea Hill who says We were moving some wood at Glengarry in West Tamar/Launceston and found this Little Pygmy-possum who was actually taking an afternoon nap.... The appropriately named little pygmy-possum (Cercartetus lepidus) reaches a mere seven grams and has a head and body length of only 5-6.5 cm. It is indeed the smallest of all possums. The little pygmy-possum was once thought to be confined to Tasmania, however, populations have been found on Kangaroo Island and the mallee scrublands of north-western Victoria. It occurs throughout a range of habitats, except rainforest. It spends much of its time in the lower, dense canopies of the understorey vegetation. It is most common in drier forests and heathlands in the east of the state. The animal generally nests in the hollows of old trees. The little pygmy-possum feeds on insects and lizards. 17.01.2022 Cuteness overload Baby Japanese Macaque Monkeys at the Launceston's City Park enclosure thanks to Donna who says: "Great viewing." ... City Park is a central thoroughfare for people coming and going to work in the city, people doing exercise and just a beautiful place to relax. City Park Launceston lies perfectly on the edge of the Central Business District and is easily reached from there on foot for a relaxing lunch or a wander through the amazing gardens. City Park Launceston has been playing an important part in the town since 1820. The park’s attractions include many gardens, a conservatory, a bandstand, a duck pond and a children’s playground. When we were at the City of Launceston park numerous garden beds were in bloom. The bright colours and delightful smells were abundant in this green city area. It was actually great to see a sensory garden section that is helpful for people with disabilities. It was designed with colours and smells in mind. The star of Launceston attractions in the city park is the Japanese Macaques monkeys that inhabit the park. Yes, you heard right Japanese Macaques in Launceston! It is not as far-fetched as it seems really. The Macaques are a cold weather animal and are often found in the snow areas of Japan. The weather in Launceston is very cold in winter and this cold weather really suits the Launceston city park monkeys. The Monkeys are located just near the front gate of the City Park. The monkeys look right at home in their enclosure as they play, run and frolic with each other. One will be mesmerized by the near circus skills of the smaller monkeys as they swing and do backflips from the ropes. The play involves games of chasey, wrestling and the occasional bout of roman wrestling. The Macaques were a gift from Launceston cities sister city Ikeda City in Japan. It is a story of tremendous and incredible strength about suffering domestic violence and acts of cowardly brutality you will not believe. Even after all these years and dealing daily with many mental scares this beautiful lady is so proud of her many achievements regardless of being phys...ically disabled. You see this inspirational human being eventually found peace and the space to reinvent herself and rediscover who she was as a human being living in society again publishing a book titled ‘Whose Life Is It Anyway?’ to raise public awareness about Domestic Violence which has been distributed to domestic violence services across Tasmania where they are used by counsellors and students on practicals. Today, as you will read, this living angel now advocates for victims of family violence through Engender Equality, an amazing and innovative Tasmanian organisation.
