25.01.2022 The children from our Junior Kindy and Senior Kindy children have been tending to their worm farm daily. This enables a sense of mindfulness, whilst also encouraging sustainable practices. This week was a big milestone for us, as we have retrieved our first batch of worm tea! We do have a few bottles left, please feel free to take one home for your garden.

23.01.2022 At 11am this morning, we gathered as a service to remember our fallen soldiers. Miss Leighanne recited the Ode, as we then proceeded to have one minute silence. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

22.01.2022 Junior Kindy have been cooking up a storm, and have made Sabee Sabee, which is a traditional sweet dish from the Torres Strait Islands. #NAIDOCWeek2020 #NAIDOC2020 #littleduckschildcareannerley

21.01.2022 Some of our Kindergarten children have recently welcomed pets into their family. What better way to support their knowledge on responsible pet ownership and how to prevent a dog bite, than welcoming the RSPCA to our service. Thank you to Miss Danielle for sharing her knowledge with the children, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

21.01.2022 Todays focus for the Senior Nursery children has been to make ANZAC play dough. Please see below for you to make at home too. Red poppy is a symbol of both Remembrance and hope for a peaceful future. And rosemary has particular significance for Australians. Traditionally, a poppy and sprigs of rosemary are worn on Anzac Day. As Anzac day is approaching, here is a recipe of Anzac playdough to share with you. You could use it to make it with your little ones at home to celebr...ate Anzac day together. Anzac Playdough (poppy coloured playdough with rosemary) Ingredients: 4 cups of flour 4 teaspoons cream of tartar 1 cup of salt 3-4 cups of water A few drops of food colouring 2 tablespoons cooking oil And some rosemary Steps: 1. Sift flour into a large cooking pot. 2. Add cream of tartar and salt and mix to combine. 3. Combine boiled water and a few drops of food colouring in a large jug. 4. Add oil and boiled water to dry ingredients and stir to combine. 5. Add some rosemary and continue stirring mixture until the mixture thickens. 6. Allow to cool before use. 7. Now it time to play!

18.01.2022 We work in partnership with Yummies for Little Tummies to create balanced, nutritious and healthy meals for the children within our service. Accredited practising dietitian Deb Blakely shares some useful information on how much salt is safe for children to consume in their diet each day. https://www.yummiesforlittletummies.com.au//How-much-salt-

17.01.2022 This morning we had our annual ANZAC parade here at Little Ducks. We began by marching, class by class across the playground with our flags. Where we met as a group, and commenced our acknowledgment to country. This was followed by the Australian national anthem and a minutes silence as we listed to the last post. Throughout the week, each class have been making wreaths, that were then placed at our memorial. Given the pandemic we are now in, ANZAC day is looking a little d...ifferent for our diggers. Shane Murray has produced a beautiful song, in recognition of these unforeseen times this ANZAC day, which we listened to, as we finished our parade. I would like to thank Justin, for giving up his time to come and take part in our parade at Little Ducks. We very much appreciate your time this morning, thank you. https://m.soundcloud.com//well-be-together-again-free-scho https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=McCDWYgVyps

16.01.2022 Yesterday our Senior Kindy and Kindergarten children attended the Bravehearts Dittos keep safe. Children can begin learning valuable personal safety education lessons from as young as 2-3 years old. Providing age-appropriate information around body ownership and the right to be safe from an early age allows for these messages to become part of the childs everyday language and helps to build self-esteem and resilience in children. Read on for more information about Bravehearts personal safety program for young children, Dittos Keep Safe Adventure Show.

13.01.2022 Nursery and Senior Nursery have been exploring the importance of Sensory Play: Why is sensory play important? Sensory play stimulates babys sense of touch, smell, taste, sight, or hearing. The idea is to encourage little ones to use their senses to play, create, investigate and explore. Sensory play can be an early, but important step in the development process. The benefits of sensory play With sensory play, theres always much more going on than meets the eye. Sensory ...activities, in addition to being fun and interesting for babies and young children, encourage children to explore and investigate. Furthermore, these activities support children to use the scientific method of observing, forming a hypothesis, experimenting and making conclusion. For example, a child may find it difficult to play with other children when there is too much going on in their environment with conflicting noises or sights. Through sensory play, the child can learn to block out the noise which is not important and focus on the play which is occurring with their peers. Another example is a child who is particularly fussy with eating foods with a wet texture such as spaghetti. The use of sensory play can assist the child with touching, smelling and playing with the texture in an environment with little expectation. As the child develops trust and understanding of this texture it helps build positive pathways in the brain to say it is safe to engage with this food. You can make your own sensory basket at home with some available staff and little afford. Things are needed 1. Basket 2. Colourful papers 3. Sand 4. Feather 5. Shaker ( Made with empty bottle and beads) Hopefully, this sensory bucket will be helpful for your babys development as sensory activities allow children to refine their threshold for different sensory information, helping their brain to create stronger connections to sensory information and learn which are useful and which can be filtered out.

10.01.2022 June 3rd commemorates Mabo Day; Mabo Day symbolises the long struggle of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples for recognition as custodians, protectors and knowledge holders of their culture. The Mabo decision has been an inspiration for Indigenous peoples around the world and a platform to secure native title rights and interests over land and seas. Native title and the Mabo decision have encouraged more and more members of the Australian community to pay their respects and acknowledge the traditional owners on the land they stand, work and live. We celebrate this day through music and dance, whilst sharing stories together.

09.01.2022 Our Kindergarten children have been extending on with their current interest of birds and have begun researching Penguins. Together, they have created a Penguin habitat within their classroom. The children discussed what items they would need to create the Antarctic habitat; An igloo, ice, penguins, water, sea creatures and a polar bear. The children have borrowed books on Antarctica from the local Library and have created their own penguins out of clay. Next week, they will be using their fishing rods they have made to fish in the icy water.

09.01.2022 This week we re-commenced our monthly visits with Tarragindi Playgroup. This months activity was art construction with recycled materials that we have been collecting. The process of creating art engages both the body and the mind and provides us with time to look inward and reflect. Experiencing art also gives us reason to think and be reflective or may inspire us to get up and dance. Art provides a release, a place for reflection and away to engage our whole selves. Thank you for having us, we look forward to seeing you all again next month.

09.01.2022 Pop down to Annerley Woolworths to chat to our friendly educators, and find out more about our Exceeding service!

06.01.2022 Yummies for Little Tummies have created a new menu for us! This weeks new menu is featuring a traditional Christmas dessert in Puerto Rico and several other islands, but is delicious any time of the year. Locally it is know as arroz con dulce which translated means sweet rice in Spanish. It is served cold and has an amazing sweet aroma from the coconut and cinnamon. It is a great calcium hit for the kids and Yummies have maximised the nutrients using brown rice and adding protein packed chia seeds.

06.01.2022 Today is a big day for us, as we welcome back all of our returning families, as well as our new families to the Little Ducks Annerley community.

06.01.2022 Public Health Alert Japanese health authorities have today advised Queensland Health of a case that tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to Japan ...from Brisbane, via Sydney. A public health alert has been issued for Virgin flight VA962 from Brisbane to Sydney on Monday, August 17 2020 and anyone who dined at The Jam Pantry caf at Greenslopes on Sunday, 16 August, 2020. Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said contact tracing was underway, and appropriate action had been taken at all relevant locations. The woman arrived in Australia in mid-July and was in hotel quarantine in Sydney for two weeks prior to coming to Brisbane. While in quarantine, she returned two negative test results, Dr Young said. Because she quarantined in Sydney and travelled straight to Brisbane from hotel quarantine, she could go about her normal life in Brisbane. However, on her arrival to Japan on 18 August, she was asymptomatic but returned a positive COVID-19 result. While we are still determining where the virus may have been acquired, we are working with Japanese authorities to gather necessary information. We have been in touch with six close contacts in Brisbane identified by the woman. These people have been tested and are now in quarantine. Queensland Health is working with NSW Health to contact people from Virgin flight VA962 from Brisbane to Sydney on Monday, August 17 2020, who were in close contact with the case. We ask that all passengers monitor their health and if they develop any symptoms, come forward for testing immediately. Any individuals who dined in at The Jam Pantry caf at Greenslopes on Sunday, 16 August, 2020 from 9.45am to 11am will be contacted by the local Public Health Unit. Anyone else who dined at the caf outside these hours on that day should come forward for testing if they develop any COVID-19 symptoms. Queensland Health will notify the community if any further public health alerts are required. The most up-to-date reliable information is available on the Queensland Health website at www.health.qld.gov.au/coronavirus

05.01.2022 Our Senior Nursery children have been partaking in a short yoga session each day. Now more than ever, it is paramount to take care of our mental health, even at a young age. Our Senior Nursery educators have shared some poses with a "how to"guide, for you to follow at home. Stay safe and take care.

04.01.2022 Thank you very much Red Rooster Ashgrove, for gifting each of our Educators a family meal voucher. We appreciate your generosity and kindness!

03.01.2022 The children in our Senior Kindy room have been busy creating their own puppy studio. The children have worked together to create their own stage and different puppets out of recycled materials. Puppet play stimulates Imagination and encourages each childs imagination and creativity to run wild. We have been tuning in each afternoon for a different puppet show. Thank you Senior Kindy!

03.01.2022 Today our Kindergarten children went on a bush walk. Before they set off on their expedition, the children sat together and drew a map of their route and made a compass using small pegs. The children ensured that they had plenty of water in their backpacks and their sun protection on. Throughout the bush walk, the children identified different wildlife as well as pointing out the trees and flowers they could see along the way.

03.01.2022 Introducing your Centre Manager- Miss Erin! I thought I would take the opportunity to introduce myself to you and tell you all a little bit about my journey at Little Ducks Annerley. I began my journey at Little Ducks just over 7 years ago, taking on the position of Nursery Educator. This is where my passion for the Little Ducks philosophy and vision began. After 12 months and completing my studies, I began the role of Lead Educator within the Nursery, fostering the importanc...e of the Circle of Security with each child within the Nursery. It was the following year, that I transitioned into the Senior Nursery room, along with the babies that I had built such a strong connection with. After some time, I explored my interest in the management side of the Early Childhood industry and was offered the Assistant Centre Manager position within the service. After taking on this role for around two years, I then went on to become the Centre Manager of the service. I believe that starting my journey as an Educator within Little Ducks Annerley and progressing my career to then become the Centre Manager has gifted me the knowledge to be able to work alongside my wonderful team to create an exceeding service and a sense of belonging to each child that is apart of our community. If you do have any questions at all, or would like to chat please stop by and say Hi!

02.01.2022 Each morning as a service, we meet at our yarning circle to acknowledge the traditional owners of our land, the Jagera people. The children are eager to gather together, as we commence by singing Taba Naba and Inanay. Inanay is a song sung in the Yorta Yorta language, which is the language of a Torres Strait Islander tribe of Victoria. The song is about a pesky goanna, that needs to be shooed away. Hence the choo in the lyrics. We thank you for your strength and the land that we share.

01.01.2022 Our Kindergarten children have had visits each day from a flock of Noisy Miner birds, that sit and watch as they eat their meals. This sparked an interest and lots of discussions around what food is safe for birds to eat. Together, the kindergarten children researched ways they could make some bird feeders and hang them in our tree, providing the birds with foods that are safe for them to eat. This morning, the kindergarten children have hung their bird feeders and eagerly await their first visitor!

01.01.2022 This week we celebrate Children's week. Children’s Week is a national celebration of children’s rights, talents and citizenship held on the fourth Wednesday of October in Australia to coincide with Universal Children’s Day. Each year the theme of Children’s Week highlights a particular Children’s Right. The Theme for 2020 is Article 15 ‘Children have the right to meet together and to join groups and organisations, as long as this does not stop other people from enjoying their rights.
