25.01.2022 A great old photo titled - Governor's Visit to Shepparton, staff c1910. (Shepparton Heritage Centre Collection) Here is some of the info on the reverse: "This is the staff that looked after the Governor of Victoria when he came to Shepparton. It was the first time such a VIP had ever been to Shepparton. The first one on the top left standing is my sister Nellie Howard, 16 years of age." "The lady in top row is a Mrs Holmes, who was the housekeeper at the Court House Hotel at that time. On the front row from the left are sisters Ewirn (sic), the others I do not know." Note: Nellie Howard was most likely the girl who tragically drowned in 1916, when 21 years of age, with her sister Annie, previously mentioned in a post a few years back. ~G This post supported by our Patrons - Ann Murray, David Gawne and Josh Revens.

20.01.2022 SHEPPARTON CIVIC CENTRE (1966) When an elderly English aunt visited us in Kyabram in 1966, my family took her sight-seeing around the Goulburn Valley before we ...all embarked on a road-trip to the Blue Mountains. This photo of Aunt Flo, myself and my two younger brothers was taken in front of the Shepparton Civic Centre in August 1966. The Civic Centre was a modern new building at the time -- only 18 months old -- having been opened on February 21, 1965. See more

If you owned or worked in a local milk bar and have photos/stories/mementos to share, let us know. ~G See more of Greg's art works here: https://bluethumb.com.au/becko

15.01.2022 Goulburn River re-alignment works at the old Shepparton Wharf (jetty) behind the Heritage Centre, c1969. The wharf was built by James H. Dainton on 16 June 1880, 6 months after the railway to Shepparton opened. The building of the Goulburn Weir and the coming of irrigation made the water level 15ft lower - so the wharf became a high and dry relic of the past. 11.01.2022 Hmmmm.. this might be worth something now that Wanganui Park High School is completely a thing of the past. I didn't realise the motto was "Education our aid". ...I went for 6 years thinking it was "aim". Four symbols of the houses Melba, Chisolm, Bates, Kenny. All named after strong women who made significant contributions to Australia's development. The old Shepparton Girls School in Fryers Street was closed and became Wanganui Park on a new site. We inherited the uniform, motto and the house names. See more
