18.01.2022 + Opportunity + Vic Heath Creatives, local Councils and community organisations Opens 15 September 2020 In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, protecting our health and wellbeing is more important than ever. To respond swiftly, and support Victorians effectively, VicHealth has listened to our stakeholders and reimagined our upcoming grant round to identify and address the needs of people in our community who are facing the greatest challenges with their health and... wellbeing. With up to $2.5 million available funding, our Reimagining Health: A VicHealth Partnership Grant round has been designed to address the immediate needs of our community and support a range of local organisations working through this tough time. Grants of up to $3K, $10K or $50K will be available for new or existing ideas or to help amplify an idea that is already in place. We’re looking for ideas or solutions that create meaningful social connection, provide opportunities for physical activity and or address food security issues for those who need it most. In the past, creatives, local councils, community organisations have come to know our Art of Good Health, Everyday Creativity and Partnership Grants. The new Reimagining Health: A VicHealth Partnership Grant round replaces these funding opportunities and we’re encouraging creatives, local councils, community organisations to apply with local ideas to provide local solutions. We’re looking for ideas that create immediate impact and reimagine health and wellbeing in 2020 and 2021. We understand how challenging it has been for local organisations during the pandemic, which is why we’ve simplified our grant applications and sped up our assessment process so successful organisations can get the support they need to make a difference in their communities asap. On Wednesday 16 September applications open for 6 weeks, however we will be assessing applications throughout this timeframe, which means if creatives, local councils, community organisations apply early, they could receive funding more than 2 months ahead of those who wait to apply until the end of this grant period. We need your help to ensure all Victorian organisations are aware and ready to apply from Wednesday 16 September, so help us spread the word because we know you care as much as we do about helping people stay mentally and physically healthy through socially connecting and participating in arts and cultural activities More information: https://vichealth1.secure.force.com//qq9q-vQFRKQOAPYiDcK4T #MacedonRanges #inthistogether

07.01.2022 #FlashbackFriday This wonderful image is of Margaret Pestell’s watercolour painting of ‘Wenona’, 14 Welsh Street, Kyneton. This two storey building is understood to have belonged to pioneering doctor, James Pestell, used as both his surgery and his private residence. It later became Wenona Private Hospital in 1914 which necessitated the addition of the rear wing. (not shown) The hospital was run by Dr. Pestell’s daughter, Sister Elizabeth Pestell who trained at the Alfred Hos...pital prior to opening Wenona. Could the nurse we see in the painting be her I wonder? The Kyneton Museum is fortunate to have a uniform of a similar age to what we see here, complete with red woollen cape and starched hat. The traditional cotton apron covered a nurse's dress and protected it from contamination and during times where laundering was done by hand, it really would have been much easier to launder a soiled apron than an entire dress! The short red cape we nostalgically associate with Australian nurses not only signified your position as a Registered Nurse, it provided much needed warmth over the light cotton of the dress and apron. Our nurses past and present show amazing dedication to their jobs, treating patients with compassion and empathy. During difficult times such as these we should spare a thought for those nurses working in our hospitals and care homes, they really do go above and beyond the call of duty. #Notallheroswearcapes #InThisTogether #MuseumFromHome #MacedonRanges See more

06.01.2022 + Opportunity + Artisans Fringe Furniture - Melbourne Fringe closes 15 September 2020 In a world of uncertainties, it’s nice to know a chair is a chair, right? Except what if that chair is also a lamp? Oh boy.... Now in its 34th year, Fringe Furniture showcases the very best experimental, emerging and market-ready design beautifully crafted objects from some of our brightest furniture makers, sculptors, ceramicists, industrial designers, and big-thinkers. But Fringe Furniture isn’t just about drool-worthy design (though it is that too) it’s an invitation to artists to re-imagine the familiar and make the future now; to re-think where we sit, how we sit and what we sit on. The future might be uncertain, but one thing you can be sure of: it’ll look rad. Returning to its home at the Abbotsford Convent, Fringe Furniture is one of the longest-running design events in Australia, and it kicks off this Melbourne Fringe Festival with a bang. Fringe Furniture is an open-access event, meaning that anyone can register to exhibit work. This open-access policy results in established and emerging designers coming together, with a combination of experimental and functional works and the presentation of fresh ideas alongside refined forms.
