25.01.2022 Ten teams emerged victorious on Saturday, after what was easily the strangest grand final day in the history of the Wellington Gippsland Tennis Association. On ...what was certain to be the last Saturday people could congregate before coronavirus restrictions tightened, the association was clear what was needed from players in order to allow regular play to continue. Players touched racquets instead of shaking hands at the end of the matches, and were asked to apply social distancing and regularly hand wash while off court. 25.01.2022 Attention junior tennis players and parents/guardians We have decided to hold a Zoom meeting to discuss the season ahead and form a junior committee for season 20/21. New parents/players are welcome to join and we would love for you to be involved in our club! ... Time: Next Thursday 20th August at 7pm For a link to join the Zoom meeting please message our Facebook page or Terry Flynn (0434 607 249) before 6:30pm Thursday 20th of August.

25.01.2022 Our kids are jumping for joy because the forecast tomorrow morning (24 degrees, partly cloudy and a light breeze) is actually P.E.R.F.E.C.T.I.O.N for tennis. We've recruited extra coaches and equipment after the past few turnouts blew our socks off. So you know the drill - the cost is $5 (which includes an icy pole), you don't need to register, attendance is casual, it runs from 9.30-10.30am on our synthetic courts, and it's a lot of fun. We'll see you at the courts!

25.01.2022 Lookin’ good Jakey and for a good cause!

25.01.2022 In case you missed last years article, well just leave this riiiiight here..... LORNA BAILEY IS SERVING UP SCONES THIS EASTER "WHERE are the scones?"...Continue reading

24.01.2022 And we are on for Hot Shots - we’ve missed you lot over the break! Hot Shots is a fun, non-competitive program designed for primary school aged children, which uses low compression balls to teach kids the basics of tennis through games and activities, no matter their ability. MLTC will run Hot Shots from 9.30am on Saturday mornings, coinciding with junior tennis, at a cost of $5, which includes coaching, plenty of fun and a zooper dooper. ... All you have to do is turn up at the courts, and write your participating child’s name and any spectating parents. See you there!

22.01.2022 Anyone get an early copy of tomorrows Gippsland Times delivered? One of our favourite people got a mention this week...

21.01.2022 Just a reminder that tomorrow is WGTA's odd socks round. We want all our players, juniors and seniors, no matter where they're playing, to wear odd or silly socks to raise awareness for mental health, and remind themselves "it's okay to feel a little odd every now and then." Hopefully, we can start a conversation and remember there is more to ask after "R U OK?".

20.01.2022 SAT PENNANT FINALS TIME Hi all According to the ladders which can be found at https://leagues.tennis.com.au/ the Maffra teams that made finals are: Juniors Sec 2 3rd... Sec 3 3rd Sec 4 4th Sec 5 1st Sec 6 2nd Seniors Sec 1 Weirs 1st, GRE 2nd Sec 2 Pund 1st Sec 3 Donalda 3rd There is no play over the Labour Day weekend. The finals are played over the following two weekends. Venues will be confirmed but normally the whole section plays the Sat 14/3 semi-final round at the venue of the team that finishes first in that section (depending on court availability). Sale is hosting the preliminary (15/3) and grand final days (21/3) for both junior and senior grades. We will provide further information when the association confirms games and venues. Well done to all the Maffra teams for another fine season.

19.01.2022 Happy 80th Sam! We hope you had an awesome day at the club yesterday, your service to the club is immeasurable, we love you (and the rest of the Crothers too xx). It was also great to see some of our Easter crew make the trip down to wish the big man happy birthday in the flesh! We certainly are a lucky club to have such great people involved.

19.01.2022 Well done to all the people who turned out to participate and cheer on our members in the inaugural Maffra triathlon today! Maffra Lawn Tennis Club absolutely cleaned up in the relay event - first (Fish and Chicks - Kate Laskowski, Chris McMahon, Finn McDonald), second (The Terry Flynn Appreciation Crew - Sarah Luke, Mitchell Allman, Jake Weir) and third (Wilmours - Terry Flynn, Maya Osbourne, Sheree Paterson)! Bit of controversy when Kate grabbed Sarahs swimmers in the pool... but because were all a big tennis family, no formal protest was lodged. We also had Triple Threat, made up of some of our junior members - Jack Dennis, Rhys Bennett and Colby Dennis - come in seventh. We also had an absolutely admirable effort from Bree Martin, Hannah and Tom Warry in the teams event and entries in the under 12 events from Miranda and Mackenzie Laskowski, Charlie Paterson, Kaiden and Tara Lambert. Were missing a few of our competitors from the photo, but were so happy that the first event was such a success and some of our members stuck up their hands to make that happen. Congratulations to Kez and Anthony Goode from Maffra Gymnastic Club and Riviera Triathlon Club for organising such an awesome day. All the proceeds go towards refurbishing the gymnastic club and our major reno project. Looking forward to next year already! If anyone has any photos please flick them through. See more

18.01.2022 Ah, Saturday tennis memories. Hopefully, were back to this sooner than later. As far as we know, the 2020 Saturday pennant season is going ahead as scheduled, with seniors beginning the first week back of October, and juniors to follow the week after. The season breaks after December 14 until the end of summer school holidays, and finals are held through March. If you want to be part of the most social sports club in Victoria, please, drop us a line.

16.01.2022 Good luck to all the Maffra players out there today playing today in the association champs!

16.01.2022 Looking for some holiday fun for the kids? Non-contact sport is a great option right now! Our coach is hosting some school holiday workshops next week. For more information, get in touch with Mark Stevens via email on [email protected] or Jamie Dunn on 0449 257 569.

16.01.2022 Every player in the WGTA or at our Easter tournament would be familiar with this lens sticking out from under the hat. An absolute icon of Maffra, itll be a special day for our life member, Sam Crothers, this weekend, who will turn 80 on Saturday. To celebrate, we thought wed put on a bit of a do for our favourite photographer. Well be having a sausage sizzle, and home teams should bring two salads and a sweet dish, while DJ Chicken produces the tunes. Could all team captains and Maffra teams spread the word? If you see Sam on Saturday, make sure he feels the love!

15.01.2022 Saturday's singles played at Maffra Lawn Tennis Club. Please share and tag anyone you know.

15.01.2022 Day one of our inaugural seniors tournament.

14.01.2022 Any names of players, venues, years, ANYTHING would be appreciated! If you want to contribute to the page, please direct message the page, wed love to see your photos.

13.01.2022 Thanks for visiting Tim Bull MP! Enjoyed the chin wag

13.01.2022 Congratulations to all our hardworking teams who made it to the WGTA grand finals at the weekend. We had some incredibly close games, particularly in our juniors who were extremely proud of, and were lucky to enough to take home two seniors flags! Senior results: Section one: Maffra Weirs 57 d Maffra GRE 52 Section two: Maffra Pund 65 d Sale Red 53 Juniors:... Section five: Briagolong 27 d Maffra 24 Section six: Stratford Redbacks 30 d Maffra 29 Great work Maffra! The next couple of months will be extremely uncertain for everyone, but were glad to have spent some of last days we could with the people we love playing the sport we love. See more

13.01.2022 Morning Hot Shot Kids, unfortunately weve had to cancel hot shots this morning as the courts are too wet. Well be back next week, so look forward to seeing you then. Parents, can I kindly ask that you share this message with others. Cheers Jules

12.01.2022 The McDonalds werent the only ones who held their own Easter tournament this year... Mitch got a bit resourceful with the lawn mower to make Quarantine Court. Other than the ball boys complete lack of professionalism and no jelly slice or scones, the tournament ran pretty smoothly with maximum entries given restrictions (2). Did anyone else get any Easter tennis action this weekend? (For anyone interested, Sarah lost the open mens singles. Badly.)

12.01.2022 SAT PENNANT GRAND FINALS ARE STILL ON In the juniors sections 5 & 6 are playing in grand finals at Sale. Games commence at 8.30am to allow for presentations. 11.01.2022 Morning Juniors & Hot Shots kids, Maffra junior tennis and our Hot Shot session is cancelled this morning due to the rain. See you back on court next Saturday. Please share this message

11.01.2022 And heres the article. We are so lucky to have such amazing, caring people involved here at MLTC. Love you and all you do for the club Kath.

11.01.2022 WHO IS READY FOR A BASH THIS SATURDAY?! JUNIORS This Saturday, the club is excited to welcome its six junior sides back to tennis from 9am! We miss all our little tennis superstars! SENIORS How bloody good was last week's return to tennis?! 11.01.2022 Who spotted our mate Kate in this hilarious article in yesterdays Gippsland Times? Today is the last day to register in the Riviera Triathlon Clubs inaugural Maffra Teams Triathlon before late fees kick in. There will be jumping castles, party music and a whole heap of fun - a bit different to your average triathlon. It would be great to see our members supporting this fledgling event, with a couple of Saturday teams already entering their own three-person team in the relay event - which is bound to be a laugh. All proceeds go to the Maffra Gymnastics Club redevelopment, and our own renos. Rego is from 8am Sunday at the pool, with kids races to begin from 8.30am, relay teams from 10, and the more serious stuff from 10.15am. We will see you there!

11.01.2022 Who else misses this sound? The good news is cancelling Easter was not in vain! Staying at home is working, Victorias reff has decreased to 0.5, and we are FLATTENING. THAT. CURVE. Keep staying at home everyone, every day is a day closer to

09.01.2022 The association has spoken: its business as (not-so) usual until we hear otherwise, so were starting to get a list together of people who are interested in playing this WGTA Saturday summer pennant season. WGTA Saturday pennant is for senior and junior grades. Everyone plays three sets. Juniors runs from 9am and usually winds up before midday, and then seniors is from 1pm. Unfortunately, we doubt there will be an arvo tea spread afterward, but there are still fun times on court to be had. Were anticipating a return on the first Saturday in October for seniors, and the second Saturday in October for juniors. If you want to join the athletic ranks of Maffra Lawn Tennis Club (see photo below), contact Mitch Allman on 0409 343 483 (for seniors) or Terry Flynn on 0434 607 249 (for juniors) or just message this page.

08.01.2022 One of our committee members has been carrying out some extremely serious and important business this morning, taste testing for Easter...

07.01.2022 Park your van in the Maffra tennis bubble this Saturday afternoon. The club will be hosting a post-game barbie, and there will be an iPod shuffle night to raise a bit of money for the club. Pick a song, any song, and you can buy it for a modest fee, and the owner of the last song played at the end of the evening will win a prize.

07.01.2022 Is the rust off your racquet? It’s going to be a balmy 25.3 degrees tonight at 5pm so we thought it would be a great opportunity for any Maffra senior players to get down to the club, test out the lawn/carpet and have a bit of a social hit before the big day tomorrow. Don’t disappoint Jake, get down to Maffra for your last chance to smooth out any wrinkles in your game before the pressure’s on tomorrow.

07.01.2022 Okay everyone, here is the post weve been desperately hoping we wouldnt have to write. Unfortunately, we will have to cancel this years Easter Tournament. Because of the rapidly-evolving, unpredictable nature of this COVID-19 pandemic, we have to consider the health of our players, the health of the Maffra community, and the very real possibility further government restrictions will make the event impossible to plan for, manage or run. We. Are. Gutted. We will of course be... refunding entries, and Hi-Tac tickets already sold. If you have Hi-Tac tickets to sell, please stop selling them. Anyone in the area is still welcome to use the synthetic courts on any day of the week when theyre available. We will certainly miss our Easter family this year, but we will be back next year bigger and better than ever. See more

06.01.2022 Mens and Ladies doubles held at Maffra Lawn Tennis Club on Saturday Afternoon. Please share and tag anyone you know.

06.01.2022 We are truly spoilt for choice with accommodation this Easter Tournament, as the Maffra Motor Inn still has a few rooms left for April 9-13! Players can keep it local and take a stroll to the courts through our beautiful town, and enjoy some window shopping or grab a bite to eat in one of our friendly cafes. Wind down in the pool after your stay or relax in front of the TV with some Netflix. Queen rooms start at $110 per night. Make sure you call Dave or Ange for more details on (03) 5147 2111 or email [email protected]

06.01.2022 Reminder for our junior tennis players and parents/guardians A Zoom meeting will be held tonight to discuss the season ahead and form a junior committee for season 20/21. New parents/players are welcome to join and we would love for you to be involved in our club! ... Time: Thursday 20th August at 7pm For a link to join the Zoom meeting please message our Facebook page or Terry Flynn (0434 607 249) before 6:30pm Thursday 20th of August.

05.01.2022 Some of our Easter family werent going to let a little global shutdown get in the way of playing an Easter tournament this year... Thanks McDonalds, we needed a laugh! Miss you all!

05.01.2022 Day three action from the inaugral Maffra Seniors Tournament.

05.01.2022 Hi all the junior and senior WGTA championships are on next Sunday 8th November in Sale. Some slight amendments to the forms shared previously. A good chance to test yourself and get some tennis in. Entry forms below need to be filled in and returned to the contact on the form asap.

05.01.2022 Hi all. This is an opportunity to represent East Gippsland against other regions of Victoria. Its a great experience and it would be terrific if some of our kids participate. (Haven TC is in Horsham).

05.01.2022 We are putting a call out for old photos of the tennis club! While people are locked inside looking for something to do, we are asking you to get out your old albums and see if you have old photos of the club and people playing on courts! Bonus points for those who can accurately caption who is in the photo. Were talking old Easter tournaments, functions, parties, Saturday tennis, Monday ladies - anything you got pre-2010s, we wanna see! We know there will be some crackers out there. Please message the Facebook page with your best shots!

04.01.2022 NO. MORE. CHICKEN. WIRE. We are very excited that we have secured $130,000 in federal funding to replace our fences! As you can see, we definitely needed it. ... We secured the funding through the Drought Communities Program, designed to stimulate spending and support jobs in drought-affected areas. Big ups to Sharon and the team from council who helped us out getting that one. We could not be happier! Thats a significant amount of money we would have had a lot of trouble raising on our own. The new fences will be safer, more secure, and will look a bit snazzier than our chicken wire (we literally have chicken wire on our lawn courts ). Now were REALLY looking forward to season 20/21!

04.01.2022 Because of wet weather and the timing of an association meeting tonight, weve had to cancel our open court session. We apologise for the inconvenience.

03.01.2022 Congrats to our two superstars Tara Lambert and Mitchell Allman who took out the association’s 10 and under girls singles yesterday and open men’s singles. We’ll let you decide who won what. Mitch and Sarah Luke also took out the open mixed doubs, and an honourable mention goes to Terry Flynn and Jenny Luke for coming runners up in the graded mixed doubles. Good to see Maffra represented across a couple of events - next year let’s try and boost those numbers to support one of the most prestigious comps on the tennis calendar.

03.01.2022 And the working bee is underway! Excited to start the 2020/21 season is an understatement. Just a reminder that seniors is underway next weekend (October 3), while juniors start the Saturday following (October 10).

03.01.2022 SICK OF LOCKDOWN?! Come and play tennis at Maffra Lawn Tennis Club! Saturday pennant is just a stones throw away and we are looking for new junior and senior players to join our club or fill in. Kids of all standards from 8 up to 18 years old can play in skills-based levels from beginner to advanced levels. Adults of all ages and standards are also invited to play senior pennant.... Contact Terry Flynn on 0434607249 if you are interested in playing or would like some more information. Tennis coaching is happening over the school holidays. Lessons for all standards and age groups can be booked through Jamie Dunn on 0449 257569. Casual senior players are welcome for a social hit on Wed & Fri mornings from 9am to noon. Keep up to date on our socials by liking our page or join our Team App for further information

03.01.2022 Average weather been keeping you inside this week? Come down to the courts tonight from 7pm and get the blood and the beers flowing at our Open Court session, as well as a snag or two afterwards.

03.01.2022 Due to popular demand, we have an exciting new event at Easter this year: family doubles (which is not listed on your form but were rulebreakers here at MLTC ). Family members, a generation apart (father-son, mother-daughter) can play together in a round robin format. Family mixed will be an elimination event. Family doubles and mixed are primarily about encouraging youngsters or those new to tennis to have a go. The events also introduce the tournament structure in a fun way to those who may be unfamiliar or hesitant to play. We look forward to seeing everyone having a great time together at MLTC this Easter!

02.01.2022 Alrighty everyone, get those entries in - only a month on the dot to go, and only 10 more days before early entry winds up. If you get your entry for this years Maffra Lawn Tennis Clubs 94th Easter Tournament before March 20, youll be in the draw for some prizes! Get those partners organised, and get ready for some more Easter fun

02.01.2022 Morning All, Junior tennis & Hot Shots is a washout again and has been cancelled this morning. Friendly reminder - there is no tennis or Hot Shots scheduled next Melbourne Cup weekend, so see you all back on court Saturday 7th Nov Please share

01.01.2022 Maffras last Hot Shots session for the year! Well miss you all over winter but well be back again in October.

01.01.2022 What a night. Were back (in a social distancy, responsible kind of way).
