20.01.2022 Due to covid-19 restrictions, dance schools have only been able to operate classes for a total of 8 weeks this year. This means, the majority of our students have been inactive since March 23. On average, each MSF dancer has lost about 50 hours of exercise in the form of dance classes...so far. The department of health recommends a minimum of one hour of physical activity per day for children aged 5-17 years. Children have not yet developed the necessary skills to actively e...ngage in sport and exercise in the same way that adults can independently. Our children need physical activity in a structured, exciting and engaging environment. They need our dance studios open for the sake of their physical wellbeing. #LetUsDance #saveourdanceschools Dance Arts Alliance

16.01.2022 The dance industry is really making themselves heard lately. We need to stand up for our industry so that our young dancers and our future performers know their worth, know that this kind of exploitation is not ok and hopefully they won’t have to fight the fight that we’ve been fighting. https://www.facebook.com/107787018440/posts/10157636120378441/?vh=e&extid=Dp9HUKWmgFHmzBP8

15.01.2022 To our beautiful dancing family, Some of you might know and many of you won't know, the entire dance industry is currently facing a huge crisis, with thanks to the covid-19 pandemic. We have been closed for 6 months of the year, except for one brief open in June and due to following the public school terms, this means we have only operated for a total of 8 weeks this entire year.... Even though we all know how valued dance schools are in their communities, we are an industry that is often forgotten, overlooked and disregarded as a "hobby job" and not a profession. Right now, dance school owners across Victoria have united in a newly formed alliance and are pushing to have their voices heard. We would love your support, so if you love Main St Funk or value the dance education sector in general, please shout it from the roof tops. Here's how: 1. Read and Share our latest article. This is not just MSF's story, it is about all dance schools in Victoria: https://mainstfunk.com/2020/09/21/the-forgotten-industry/ 2. Listen and Share, Mike Harrison (Chair of the Dance Arts Alliance) speaking on the current issues for dance schools in Victoria: https://www.facebook.com/watch/ 3. Sign this petition and include a comment about why you are signing. And of course, share!: http://chng.it/sz4bmxDp4M 4. Upload dancing photos or videos or the images attached to your social media and include a caption about why you value your local dance schools. Tag @mainstfunk and @dance.arts.alliance and include the hashtags #LetUsDance #SaveOurDanceSchools 5. If you're feeling extra empowered, write a letter to your local MP or reach out to council members. Tell them of your experience at your local dance school and why you think dance schools need to re-open asap. While we have felt powerless for a good part of this year, right now we feel empowered! The dance industry is finally being heard, we are gaining momentum and are determined to re-open and survive this crisis, for the sake of our students. As always, we really appreciate your love, loyalty and support during this time and hope to see you 1.5m away on the dance floor very soon. The MSF Team (Kristie, Carla and Chloe) [email protected] Chloe: 0433220973

14.01.2022 Thinking of our little people...and our big people too.

13.01.2022 Happiest birthday to this most wonderful dance teacher, studio owner, business partner, sister, aunty, daughter, friend and lover of all furry creatures. Chloe we hope you are having the most amazing day, being spoilt by brunch, presents and cuddles and walkies with your favourites. MSF would not be what it is today if it were not for your vision, constant drive and desire to create a place of welcome and joy to dancers big and small. ... We can't wait for the day we see you surrounded by your orange spotted army at our studio once again.

04.01.2022 #LETUSDANCE Because it is more than just dancing. We don't just create dancers in our studio walls, we create hardworking, reliable and respectable human beings by teaching kindness and respect from the minute our young dancers walk in the door. Dance students go on to be successful and valued individuals in careers in and out of the dance industry. Dance Arts Alliance #SaveOurDanceSchools
