25.01.2022 RESEARCH SHARE Cannabidiol (CBD) as a treatment of acute and chronic back pain: A case series and literature review. May/Jun 2020 PubMed Conclusion: Hemp-derived CBD in a transdermal cream provided significant symptom and pain relief for the patients described in this case series. Based on these results, we believe further investigation is warranted to see if CBD-containing products should have a more prominent role in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.... https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32421842/ https://wmpllc.org/ojs/index.php/jom/article/view/2748

23.01.2022 QUESTION In 2020, the 20 member ‘Global Task Force on Dosing and Administration of Medical Cannabis in Chronic Pain’ developed recommendations for the dosing of cannabinoids. These recommendations were presented at a virtual PAINWeek meeting. One of their recommendations included Treat the majority of patients along the routine scale. What does this mean? ANSWER Treating the majority of patients along the routine scale means to start with a dose of 5 mg of cannabidiol ...(CBD) twice daily, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) should only be added if the patient does not respond to at least 40 mg of CBD daily. If THC is added, the starting dose should be 2.5-mg daily. THC doses should be capped at 40 mg daily. Reference here :https://www.healio.com//global-task-force-establishes-prot

23.01.2022 QUESTION What physiological systems are affected by the endocannabinoid system? ANSWER In addition to regulating neuronal excitability and inflammation in pain circuits, the endocannabinoid system has been shown to play a regulatory role in movement, appetite, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis modulation, immunomodulation, mood, blood pressure, bone density, tumor surveillance, neuroprotection and reproduction. The endocannabinoid system has also been shown to affect sensory perception, cardiac output, cerebral blood flow and intraocular pressure.

21.01.2022 Clinical Study Share : 'Emerging Promise of Cannabinoids for the Management of Pain and Associated Neuropathological Alterations in Alzheimer’s Disease' July 2020 CONCLUSION Cannabinoids act by targeting several signaling processes, such as pain, abnormal processing of A and tau, neuroinflammation, excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction, which play a pivotal role in the management of AD. Cannabinoids also ameliorate behavioral and cognitive dysfunc...tions. Therefore, due to these extensive medical uses of cannabinoid compounds, it can be said that targeting the endocannabinoid system can be a promising strategy to develop an effective therapy for the management of AD. Furthermore, cannabinoids may demonstrate a safe and reliable low-cost therapy, with limited side effects. Future research is needed to investigate the use of cannabinoids for the treatment of AD in a clinical trial setting. See more

17.01.2022 ARTICLE SHARE : Following the recent rescheduling of registered low-dosage CBD products by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) co-author Professor Iain McGregor, academic director of Sydney University's Lambert Initiative for Cannabinoid Therapeutics, has shot down the decision, suggesting it is unlikely to benefit patients. "There is no good-quality evidence that 60mg does anything useful," said Professor McGregor, calling for much higher doses to elicit the required... relief to patients suffering from chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety and epilepsy. Comparing the availability of CBD products and the associated legislative and regulatory background in nine selected countries, McGregor shows the TGA, along with many other legal authorities, have severely underestimated the required dosage for CBD products. 17.01.2022 "Victoria's medicinal cannabis users could be free as early as next year to drive with the substance in their bodies as the state government considers major changes to drug-driving laws. In an Australian first, the state government could begin to treat medicinal cannabis the same as other medications as part of a plan to be drafted over coming months in consultation with MPs, police and doctors and expected to be implemented early next year." Well done Fiona Patten MP! This will set a precedent for other States to follow.

17.01.2022 QUESTION It has been estimated that a significant proportion of cancer patients (18.3-40.0%) in the United States use marijuana or cannabinoid-based products. Does the evidence indicate that cannabinoid-based products are effective in treating cancer-related pain? chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting? cancer-related cachexia (wasting)? ANSWER According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, there is substantial evidence for the effectiveness of marijuan...a and cannabinoids in treating cancer-related pain; specifically, an oral THC/CBD spray. Also, there is conclusive evidence that marijuana and cannabinoids effectively relieve chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting; (specifically, oral THC). However, there is inconclusive evidence about the effectiveness of cannabinoid-based products in treating cancer-related cachexia (wasting). #mcraorgau #mcraeducation #medicalcannabis #medicinalcannabis #cannabiseducation #thc #thcresearch #cbd #cbdresearch #cancerpain #chemotherapyinducednauseaandvomiting

16.01.2022 Clinical Study Share : 'Cannabis Improves Obsessive-Compulsive DisorderCase Report and Review of the Literature' JULY 2020 CONCLUSION There is increasing evidence that the ECS might be involved in the pathophysiology of OCD. 14.01.2022 Be aware, if you import your own CBD oil, you may not get what you pay for! This is really very worrying! Article - Non-targeted Screening of Commercial CBD Products in the United States Reveals Common Contamination and Adulteration, August 2020. - "Recent studies have investigated commercial CBD products using targeted assays and have found varying degrees of misrepresentation and contamination of these products."... - "We find evidence to support previous conclusions that CBD products are commonly misrepresented in terms of cannabinoid concentrations present. Specifically, we observe a wide variation in relative THC concentrations across the product tested, with some products containing 10-fold more relative signal than others. In addition, we find that several products appear to be purposely adulterated with over the counter drugs such as caffeine and melatonin. We also observe multiple small molecule contaminants that are typically linked to improper production or packaging methods in food or pharmaceutical production. Finally, we present high resolution accurate mass spectrometry data and tandem MS/MS fragments supporting the presence of trace amounts of fluorofentanyl in a single mail order CBD product." https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.08.25.267302v1 See more

13.01.2022 Very important research, just published, regarding optimum conditions for short to long-term storage of both cannabis flower and cannabis oils. Metabolic Profiling of Cannabis Secondary Metabolites for Evaluation of Optimal Postharvest Storage Conditions - The Laboratory of Cancer Biology and Cannabinoid Research, Department of Biology, @TechnionLive... CONCLUSION "In this study we found that the best conditions for preserving the original phytocannabinoid and terpenoid contents of inflorescences throughout long storage periods are as whole inflorescences at 4C. In regards to medical Cannabis oil preparation and storage, Cannabis inflorescences intended for extraction should be stored under these optimal conditions, and then extracted as close as possible to the oil’s marketing, dissolved in olive oil, and stored at 4C. It should be noted, however, that olive oil freezes at this temperature, and so the oil should be consumed only after re-melting and proper mixing to avoid phase separation. The therapeutic use of medical Cannabis is growing, and so is the need for standardized and therapeutically stable Cannabis products for patients. Prolonged storage under sub-optimal conditions can lead to degradation or changes in biologically active phytocannabinoids and terpenoids resulting in new constituents. This can consequently alter the therapeutic effects of the Cannabis medication or lead to undesirable side effects compared with the original material. This study, therefore, provides important information that is relevant to Cannabis growers, clinicians, manufacturers, and distributors of medical Cannabis, in order to provide patients with standardized, pharmaceutical-grade Cannabis inflorescences and oils." https://www.researchgate.net//344665328_Metabolic_Profilin [accessed Oct 21 2020]

11.01.2022 Pre-Clinical Study Share : 'Roles of Cannabinoids in Melanoma: Evidence from In Vivo Studies' 21 August 2020 CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, evidence from these in vivo studies suggest that the use of THC and CBD not only inhibited tumor growth and reduced tumor size but also seemed to improve the quality of life in animal models [31]. A synergistic approach (using two cannabinoids in combination) may be more beneficial for melanoma treatment than the use of individual cannabin...oids [32] with a potentially improved quality of life in some patients. Therefore, future in vivo studies should include both individual cannabinoid and combined cannabinoid-based approaches for the treatment of melanoma and the investigation of the mechanism underpinning the synergistic effects observed. In addition, given the large number of in vitro studies, future reviews will be needed to identify the potential underlying mechanisms of cannabinoids involved in the inhibition of melanoma and to contribute further to our understanding of the complex endocannabinoid system involvement in the treatment of cancer. 08.01.2022 QUESTION Has cannabidiol in compounded topical pain creams been found to effectively treat pain? ANSWER According to the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s 2020 publication, A Review of the Safety and Effectiveness of Select Ingredients in Compounded Topical Pain Creams, there is insufficient evidence on the effectiveness of topical cannabidiol to treat pain when applied to intact skin. Evidence from animal studies suggests that topically applied cannabidiol in a gel may be superior to placebo for treatment of pain, inflammation, and fibrosis.
