24.01.2022 Hi Lions fans, Tomorrow we will be having a Presentation at Cardiff RSL around 7pm for the Gordon Goffet shield. The Goffet family will be there to present the shield to the winning club. Gordon was a proud Cardiff Boolaroo player and a supporter of the Merewether cricket club. Finger food will be provided. Hope to see many old and new faces. Good luck tomorrow!

24.01.2022 This weekend the Lions are playing Waratah-Mayfield for the Gilmour/Edwards trophy. This trophy is named after two highly regarded men from both clubs. Gary Gilmour being a Waratah player before moving to play at the top level for Australia. Tony Edwards captaining Merewether 1st grade and managing to hit 81 for Northern NSW versing the West Indies. Guest are invited to Townson Oval to watch 1st grade in honour of these two great men. Hope to see many there.

24.01.2022 The lads are wearing black armbands today in honour of Kay Ward, who lost her battle with illness this week. Kay was the mother of one of our club's great friends, Aaron "Azza" Ward. Our thoughts and deep condolences remain with Azza and all of Kay's family and friends. Vale Kay Ward.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to DBs for winning the grand final. Man of the match performance by Tom McDevitt with an unbeaten 50 to lead the team home. Unfortunately 21s went down to City. The Young Cubs put up a great fight. Thanks to the supporters who came down to help cheer on the lads.

20.01.2022 The below message was received by the club today. In summary, the 2019/2020 season has come to an end. Grade/Associations Presidents and Secretaries, Please see media release attached received this day (Tuesday 17 March 2020) from Cricket Australia and its Chairman Kevin Roberts.... * The message contained here is that all cricket in Australia is to cease immediately * As for the area covered by the Newcastle District Cricket Association (NDCA) NO Grade Semi Finals OR Grade Finals will now be played. This will be very disappointing for all concerned however as per the media release the interests of all involved in cricket is absolutely paramount. The safety of our community supersedes any sporting competition, hence, as such we have taken the advice of our governing bodies to cancel all competitions effective immediately. Club champions, minor premiers and any competitions completed to date will stand, however, our major premiers for each grade will be recorded as *No finals played 2019/20. We encourage the community to stay safe and follow all instructions and advice in a fast moving and unprecedented situation. 15.01.2022 The MDCC Old Boys and Sponsors Day will be held at Townson Oval on Saturday 14 March 2020, commencing at 12.00pm. At the conclusion of the day, the presentation of the Gilmour/Edwards Shield will be made.

14.01.2022 On Monday 3rd of August, we hosted our AGM at Souths. We inducted 2 new life members for the Merewether District Cricket Club with Phillip Stanbridge and Timothy O'Neill. These 2 men have contributed heavily to the Merewether cricket club on and off the field through various roles. Congratulations to both for this achievement. Big thank you to NDCA, NDCUA and NSW cricket members for attending the meeting along with Merewether cricketers and supporters.

12.01.2022 The wily veteran finishes with match figures of 10-50 to beat Cardiff outright with nine overs to spare.

12.01.2022 Merewether Lions was able to win back the Gordon Goffet shield. 1st and 3rd grade had convincing wins whilst 2nd and 4th grade suffered losses. Thank you to the Lion players and supporters attending Cardiff RSL for the presentation and thank you to the CB's for their hospitality. Big last round ahead for semi final spots and most importantly the club championship.

10.01.2022 A big week for MDCC. Our Lionesses play at Connolly Park on Wednesday night - 5pm start. Our DBs & U21s play their finals at Learmonth Park vrs City. 21s start at 11am. DB's start at 2.00pm. And lets not forget Grade on Saturday vrs Waratah. Our Suburban District boys take on Port Stephens Pythons @ Connolly Park as well. If you aren't playing drop down and support our teams.

09.01.2022 The old boys golf day due to be played on 13th Sept has been cancelled due to COVID restrictions on the golf club (no Ambrose or group events). We hope to re schedule once things get back to normal! Therefore, Preseason training will be on this Sunday at Townson oval at 9am. Hope to see many new and old faces there.

Gordon was a player for Cardiff and supporter of Merewether through his son. 02.01.2022 Howdy Lions, it is in great sadness that we will be saying goodbye tomorrow to our pom Jack Richards. Jack is a fantastic cricketer bowling a bit of spin and a even better bloke around the club. Jack help out with the junior camps where the kids absolutely love him and his pommy accent. He will be missed dearly and we hope to see him again in Merewether once University is finished. We wish him all the best. Big thanks to Harry and Gears for taking Jack in and damaging his liver. Tomorrow night the U/16's play their grand final tomorrow 4:30pm at Townson oval. This is a fantastic opportunity to say goodbye to Jack. The club will be putting on a BBQ to say our goodbyes. Hope to see all of us there.
