20.01.2022 You might not know it but thanks to our friends at V/Line, Metro still runs diesel trains. From Frankston to Stony Point, the Sprinter fleet have been running in Victoria since December 1993, and are powered by two turbocharged diesel V8s. The train pictured is Sprinter 7001 which is named after cycling legend and Federal MP Sir Hubert Opperman. In 1937, Oppy, as he was known, broke the transcontinental cycling record by riding from Fremantle to Sydney in 13 days, smashing t...he record by five days. Other sporting heroes the trains are named after include AFL great Gary Ablett Sr (7008), Olympic gold winning hurdler Debbie Flintoff-King (7017) and field hockey legend Louise Dobson (7015).

Since July, crews have installed 268 concrete L-beam bridge segments, 21,000 tonnes of ballast, 7,000 concrete railway sleepers and more than ten kilometres of new rail to build the 2.5-kilometre elevated rail bridge in record time.

10.01.2022 In pawsitively brilliant news, our driver John O’Sullivan had a four-legged friend along for a ride in the cab today. John was driving on the Belgrave Line, when a call came across the radio to stop because a trespasser and a dog were on the tracks. He saw the dog on the tracks near his train, and being the sort who’s quick to act, John opened the door and pulled him in to safety. At Flinders St the pooch was handed over to Victoria Police to be reunited with its owner.... Well done, John. Thanks fur your top work!!
