25.01.2022 FREE Agricultural Seminar: Harvesting RAIN and How to Capture Rainfall Calling all producers! The Building Resilient Future Project is hosting a fantastic oppo...rtunity to further your learning in all things involving moisture. The BFR Project has collaborated with Lachlan Campbell, Catchment coordinator from North East Catchment Management Authority, and Darren McCormick, Agronomist from Landmark NORMAC Baranduda. Lachlan will present the most recent findings from the ‘Embedding Climatic Adaption in Agriculture’ (ECAiA) project, the objective of which is to increase the capacity of agricultural systems, related communities and support local government to adapt to significant climatic changes. The climate data includes the latest information available from CSIRO with projections provided for 2030 and 2050. Darren has a wealth of knowledge for the local area and outlying districts, and will speak on maximising opportunities with moisture and utilising available rainfall for food and profit. All individuals or organisations involved with the Agriculture industry are invited and encouraged to attend. The ‘Harvesting Rain’ seminar is a midday event, hopefully appealing to those who are interested, both speakers will be allowing time for questions and general discussion regarding the Upper Murray region. 21.01.2022 Funeral for the Late Wayne Smith (Smirk) Mitta Valley people and friends are welcome to pay their respects as the Hearse drives by on Tuesday 12th May 2020 by s...tanding on the side of the road between Tallandoon, Eskdale, Mitta North , Mitta Township and Omeo Highway before Smirk and Carolyn's house. Extended family will use the road in front of their house to wait for the service to finish and as a support to his brothers, sisters, mum and wife. Please remember at this point in time 'social distancing rules' still apply. It would be lovely to see some St.Kilda balloons, streamers or even your own footy colours displayed in his honour - if you wish. The Hearse and Smirks immediate family will be leaving the Lockhardts Gap Turn off at 12.45pm. No other cars to follow please. Thank you all for your love, support and friendship for his family. It will be lovely to see the Valley come out to say goodbye to one of our most loved characters and I'm sure his family will take comfort in seeing your faces as they pass by. Please call me on 0438 426 605 if you'd like to have a chat. Love to you all, Pauline xx

21.01.2022 Officials needed for Mitta Mountain Rally 21 March 2020 In the past the Mitta Mountain Rally has not required many officials, due to having only four or five no... repeat stages and the nature of the country with few access tracks onto the rally route requiring closure. This year, with two extra stages, each requiring a minimum of eight people for start time control, start line, flying finish and stop point, plus road closures has meant that we have to dig deeper than local resources for officials. If you would like a pleasant weekend in the so far unburnt North East high country, with some rally spectating thrown in, then please get in touch with our Officials Coordinator, Ray Wingrave on ph 0403932515 or email [email protected].

20.01.2022 We are all greatly relieved to hear the fires near us are contained and a big thank you to all those who helped with the job.

02.01.2022 Today's community newsletter. Note, due to the transition into recovery, the frequency of these newsletters will decrease to several times per week. The milde...r conditions have enabled crews to continue to work on containment lines along the western side of the fire. As weather conditions permit, back burning will continue to occur in the Wabba Wilderness, between Berringama and Dartmouth Dam along the Gibb Range Track and Glamour Hill Track to secure the western flank of the fire. Smoke may be visible in the Pine Mountain area as heavy fuels continue to burn within the fire ground. As a result of this and back-burning, increased smoke will be visible in nearby areas for some time. There is currently no threat to the community. Hazard tree assessment and treatment continues to be a priority across the fire affected area.
