12.01.2022 In 1914 the lands around Morphettville Racecourse were donated to be used as military training grounds. The land was donated by Richard MacDonnell Hawker (1865-1930), well-known sportsman and pastoralist of Bungaree Station near Clare. He was also the owner of Morphettville Stud Farm, about 80 acres of land alongside the Morphettville Racecourse. Following the outbreak of war, Hawker made ‘a splendidly patriotic offer to the military authorities for the free use of encampment of the expeditionary force ‘(The Register, 13 August 1914).

01.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Further to the SA Government announcement that restrictions be re-introduced, the SAJC in conjunction with TRSA have agreed that NO PATRONS will be able to attend the Morphettville Race Meetings on November 21 and November 28. Attendance will be strictly limited to essential industry personnel only. The Government has advised the restrictions will be reviewed within two weeks and therefore we are hopeful that our gates will be open to members and guests... on December 5. We will keep you informed as more information comes to hand. In-line with SA Government recommendations SAJC staff, where possible will be working from home for the next two weeks.
