22.01.2022 Melbourne Mountain Meetup trip that occurred on Saturday 19 May 2018

15.01.2022 When i wanted to learn how to mountaineer and explore the mountains I went to New Zealand and loved it so much i spent many years over there. I did what many Australians do and figured that you need to go overseas to have some great adventures because there isn't that much to do here. But what did I know I hadn't even seen what Australia had to offer! Now that I'm back in Australia with a bit more experience and perspective, I thought I'd actually go and have a proper look at... what's around. Well aren't I an idiot! There is some great stuff right here in my backyard and it's all over the place. I'd been thinking that i want to get back and do more challenging stuff in Africa, Nepal and climb some more technical peaks in New Zealand but now I've changed my mind until i can explore the many unrecorded new scrambles, summer and winter climbs only a few hours from Melbourne. Also to let other people know about what Australia has to offer and enjoy. Australia may not have the magnificent peaks of NZ and the high peaks of Nepal and South America but it's a very very under appreciated training ground for safer adventures overseas. This is basically why i have this meetup going, not only to explore the amazing mountains with like minded people but also to help train people safely in Alpine and mountain skills within what could be called a club environment, eventually, by Australians for Australians which from my vantage point Australia sorely lacks. So here's some photos of the great scrambling we did on the southern slopes of Mt. Buller on what is a great hike, the Buller GT (Grand Traverse), but we took the scenic route up the aretes on the southern face. In winter this is snow and ice covered and offers some really good sustained, steep mixed snow and rock climbing with crampons, rope and ice tools. This is the case all around Mt. Buller with many many unclimbed / un recorded routes all around the mountain as well as Little Buller for literally days of fun in winter and summer. Who needs Mt. Arapiles for the aspiring mountaineer when Buller is closer! Here are the photos form the trip https://www.facebook.com//AustralianMountainMeetup/photos/ .

14.01.2022 Want to extend a welcome to Perdo Arvy as the groups first event organiser, Pedro's a very experienced hiker and has also completed technical mountaineering training. This will help expand the group's capability and ability to cater for the many hundreds of people looking to explore Australia's mountains!
