25.01.2022 A lovely story for a Monday about a silver lining to the current COVID pandemic. Great to see positive outcomes from telehealth in assisting families to access therapy and programs. https://www.smh.com.au//for-children-with-disabilities-the

25.01.2022 Another day in ISO is just another day to work on gross motor skills

25.01.2022 As we approach our first birthday as a service, I thought what better time than now to re-introduce myself. I am Kimberley Attard, and I am the Director and Principal Physiotherapist at Move Play Grow Physiotherapy. I am passionate about helping families and children to achieve their goals, and sharing in the highs and lows with them as they grow. This gives me immense personal and professional satisfaction. I have been a Physiotherapist for over 12 years, having graduated fr...om a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Exercise Science in 2007. My expertise includes working with children with neurological conditions and complex developmental delays, including Cerebral Palsy, Acquired Brain Injury, Down Syndrome, Autism and Global Developmental Delay. I am also highly skilled at gait assessment, orthotic prescription, and complex equipment prescription. I have previously worked at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Children’s Hospital, the Victorian Paediatric Rehabilitation Service, and more recently within Special Developmental Schools in Victoria. I love making therapy fun and goal - focussed. See more

24.01.2022 One of my favourite pieces of equipment currently is the $10 balance cushion from Kmart. It has so many different uses. Today weve used it to add an extra challenge to throwing and catching practice. #paediatricphysiotherapy #grossmotorskills

23.01.2022 So much joy reading this journey of one of my former clients. Love seeing her progress and achievements. Thanks to Viva Life Pilates and Fitness, and to her family for allowing me to share her story. One of the families I will never forget and so grateful to have been part of your journey. Amazing work Sofia and the team at Viva Life, particularly you Karen who has helped Sofia achieve so much.

23.01.2022 So interesting to see the results of RCHs latest health poll conducted during COVID-19. 31% of families delayed their childs necessary health care and 50% of children were less physically active. Exercise (within 5km of home) and healthcare remain one of the 4 reason to leave home. If you are concerned still about accessing healthcare taking advantage of telehealth is a great option.

23.01.2022 Move Play Grow Physiotherapy bookings are open for Term 1 2021. Sessions resume from Tuesday 19th January after a well-deserved break for therapists and families. 21.01.2022 So heartwarming to see this story on sunrise this morning, highlighting the importance of early intervention in helping children to achieve their goals, and the important role that the NDIS plays in allowing this to happen.

19.01.2022 Balloon Tennis Balloon tennis is a great way to work on hand eye co-ordination with children, and a smash proof, safer and easier alternative to using a tennis ball for younger children. This is also a good indoor activity option for rainy days.

19.01.2022 Today is Red Nose Day, a day to raise awareness about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI).In Australia, 9 children die suddenly and unexpectedly every day. Thats over 3000 infants and young children per year. The link below has more information about SIDs and SUDI and some environmental changes that can help to prevent SUDI.

18.01.2022 Yes we need more of this

17.01.2022 ~ Low Muscle Tone ~ Perhaps one of the most common caseloads we work with here at Move Play Grow Physiotherapy is children with low muscle tone. Muscle tone is the amount of tension in our muscles (or the resistance of our muscles to movement).... Children with low muscle tone appear more floppy, also known as hypotonia. Many children with low muscle tone have gross motor development delays, and difficulty maintaining good posture, they also tire quite easily. Our physiotherapist’s can assess your child’s muscle tone and offer strategies and therapy to maximise muscle tone, and assist with gross motor development. We can also assist with referring on to investigate the cause of the low muscle tone, however often the low muscle tone is idiopathic. For more information on low muscle tone read here https://www.rch.org.au/kidsinfo/fact_sheets/Low_muscle_tone/

08.01.2022 Happy 150th birthday to the Royal Childrens Hospital! The Royal Childrens Hospital has played a big role in my life as a staff member for many years and more recently as a parent whose baby required 2 emergency airway surgeries at RCH resulting in 2 ICU admissions. How grateful I am to have access to the best health care in the world. Thankyou to all the amazing staff at RCH for the impact you make on lives everyday.

08.01.2022 Some light research reading for a Saturday.... researchers and clinical experts have produced the first clinical guidelines in Australia to improve the rehabilitation of children who have a stroke. Each year up to 600 Australian children suffer a stroke, and more than half experience long term disabilities affecting physical functioning, communication, learning and social behaviour. The guidelines cover motor and sensory function, pain management, nutrition, speech and language, recreation and leisure activities and education. https://journals.sagepub.com/d/pdf/10.1177/1747493020941279

Telehealth sessions are strongly encouraged, so please chat to your therapist to discuss changing to this option if able. We have already been wearing type 1 medical face masks as per DHHS guidelines for health care providers and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We are also asking family members present in the room for home based sessions to also wear masks to further reduce the risks to your family, our family and our community. All families are requested to complete the COVID-19 health screen that is emailed to you 24 hours prior to your booked session. #paediatricphysiotherapy #choosephysio #stayhome #wearamask #weareinthistogether
