09.01.2022 The Victorian Department of Health is encouraging medical students to contribute to the COVID-19 vaccination program. This program has already delivered over 650,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccinations. As students, we can make an important contribution towards supporting our community by relieving the pressure on the healthcare workforce during this surge in demand and expansion of the vaccination program. This paid role is strictly voluntary (opt-in), and all students must ...be provided with appropriate training, protections and indemnity. We encourage all interested students to: 1) Ensure they have the support of their medical school and placement provider; 2) Ensure that participation in this role does not interfere with clinical placement hours or university commitments; 3) Comply with federal, state and local (health service) requirements to minimise the risk of transmission of infectious diseases in healthcare settings; 4) Get the COVID-19 vaccination. Register your interest here: www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/covid-19-vaccine-program-workfor Please check your eligibility before signing up. Pre-clinical students are only able to work in non-clinical roles.

03.01.2022 *Trigger Warning* This post contains content about the topic of suicide. We are deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of a Victorian medical student, who was a beloved colleague and friend to many. ... Our deepest sympathies are with those who have been affected, in particular, their family, friends and colleagues who will be experiencing a time of great difficulty and grief. As a community, we grieve the loss of one of our own. The death of a student will affect everyone differently; everybody’s emotions and reactions will differ, and the depth of grief will not always be immediate. In this time of loss and grief, it is important to take a break, stay connected and reach out for support. Look after yourselves, check in with your colleagues, spend time with your friends, family and loved ones. Please do not hesitate to reach out directly if you need someone to listen. Stephanie Li Chair of MSCV [email protected]

But sometimes, the signs that a patient, colleague, friend, family member or loved one might need support can be hidden behind a smile. This Thursday is R U OK Day. By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes youve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. ... If they say they are not ok, you can follow our conversation steps to show them theyre supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know youre someone who cares enough to ask. Find out more about the simple steps that could save a life: https://www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
