25.01.2022 This #NationalVolunteerWeek, wed like to extend our gratitude to the incredible volunteers from our Youth Frontiers program. The theme for 2020 is "Changing Communities. Changing Lives," which is exactly what this special group of people do. Over the past year, weve had 158 volunteers assist 351 students across 24 schools in the Blue Mountains, Western Sydney and South Western Sydney regions. Youth Frontiers is a youth mentoring program that connects students aged 1216 w...ith adult volunteer mentors. The aim of the program is to help students develop confidence, communication, teamwork and leadership skills, become more engaged with their community, and help develop a vision for their future. 25.01.2022 Malek is 18 years old and is living with an intellectual disability. He joined MTC's Disability Employment Services (DES) program with the goal of working at a car wash, just like the person he looks up to and admires his older brother, who is also living with an intellectual disability. Q: Where did you work prior to MTC?... A: I worked at Youth Off The Streets for nearly three years, as well as PCYC and Cumberland Council. Q: What made you want to come and work for MTC? A: I have always admired and respected the great work MTC have championed and accomplished in the local community. MTC facilitated my first placement while I was studying as a school mentor, and the program and values the organisation held really resonated with me. Im proud to work for such a fantastic organisation and excited to contribute greatly to the Links program. Q: What will you be responsible for in your role at MTC? A: Facilitating Links to Learning programs, individual support for students and liaising with schooling representatives. Q: What are you most looking forward to about your new role? A: Just the ability to work with young people face-to-face and deliver some amazing programs, the chance to make a difference within schooling environments and educate and spread awareness about important social issues, and make a positive impact not only on an individual level but on a community level too. 17.01.2022 Were excited to announce that Warakirri College will be opening a brand new campus on Watsford Road in Campelltown! Principal Carolyn Blanden says: "The popularity of Warakirris campus at 138 Queen St has highlighted the strong demand for an alternative school in the Campbelltown area. Students really enjoy coming to a place where there are no uniforms and a flexible, adult learning environment where they can make friends and build positive relationships with their teacher...s. "Our beautiful new campus next to the station will provide another 120 places for students in Years 1012 who want to complete Year 10 RoSA or HSC. We are very excited that, now that planning approval has been given, we will be welcoming our first students at the start of 2022." As a result, she has formed connections with "businesses, organisations, and individuals who are not only in support of my products, but are motivated to create the same positive changes in the world". 11.01.2022 The Smart, Skilled and Hired (SSH) Youth Employment program commenced in 2017 and was designed to assist young people aged from 15-24 find work through practical training, mentoring and work experience. Right up until its completion on 30 June 2020, MTC was the lead provider of this program, partnering with Settlement Services International and Schools Industry Partnership to deliver youth employment support for vulnerable, unemployed and underemployed young people across an extensive area in Western Sydney.

03.01.2022 As we continue to celebrate NAIDOC Week, we want to acknowledge some of the fantastic work our Opportunity Hub team does in the community. Earlier this year, the Opportunity Hub team, in conjunction with our IT team, sourced and donated 20 laptops to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students in Campbelltown and Picton, so that they could continue their studies remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. 03.01.2022 Fiona Richardson joined our Career Transition Assistance (CTA) program in October 2020 as she needed to build her skills, learn more about searching for jobs and re-assess her career options during a difficult time for those looking for work. The first step was rebuilding her confidence, which, similar to many mature-aged people, took a hit due to losing employment as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Upon commencing in the CTA program, Fiona was very motivated and displaye...d a willingness to learn and apply the strategies given to her. After several unsuccessful job applications, Fiona learnt to analyse job ads, write effective cover letters and tailor her resume to specific jobs, as she gained a greater understanding of her goals and her skills. Five months went by, and despite not finding a job, Fiona maintained a positive attitude and kept at it, continually attending interviews and putting her hat in the ring for suitable roles. On the week of her 61st birthday, Fiona received one of the best surprises she could've hoped for she was offered a job at the Garvan Institute as an Administrator! Not one to rest on her fantastic achievement, Fiona also enrolled in a Certificate III in Business Administration so that she could continue to learn and excel in her new job. Claudia Dibiagio, a CTA Facilitator at MTC who worked closely with Fiona, says: "Fiona is living proof that no matter how old you are, if you want to learn and find the right job, you can achieve all that you strive for." 02.01.2022 Our Links to Learning team has welcomed aboard a new Youth Advisor, Nitya Wright! We had a chat with Nitya and got an insight into why she wanted to join the team. Take a look below: Q: Where did you work prior to MTC?... A: I was working in the Family Referral Service with Barnardos Australia for work placement. I was also working with DaDaABC as an online English Second Language (ESL) teacher. Q: What made you want to come and work for MTC? A: I was drawn to MTCs reputation within the community and the work they do within schools to support, inspire and motivate students self-development and self-improvement. I feel the organisation aligns with my own aspirations and values and will provide invaluable guidance for my career development as a Youth Advisor. Q: What will you be responsible for in your role at MTC? A: In my role at MTC, I will be the Youth Advisor in the Links to Learning program. My responsibilities include; facilitating primary and high school students within schools, providing individual support, co-facilitating groups and working as the key contact within school. Q: What are you most looking forward to about your new role? A: I am most looking forward to being a part of MTCs team culture and being on the field within different schools in the area. Im excited to work closely with the students, building rapport, and seeing tangible progress throughout the semester.
