25.01.2022 Some support and strength from the other side of the world today for students and families at Eden Marine High. Prompted by what they saw during our Black Summe...r Bushfires, the Norwegian Seafarers' Union passed the hat around to raise funds for bushfire impacts communities. Working with the Maritime Union of Australia - MUA we were able to direct some of that money to the laptop program at Eden Marine High. Some families have struggled to support their kid's digital learning during the pandemic, this helps close that gap for some. I join these students in saying a big THANK YOU to the Norwegian Seafarers' Union and the Maritime Union of Australia. We really are one planet! Photos: Grant and Olly - Eden based members of the MUA, Mich-Elle Myers - National Officer MUA, School Principal - Viv Chelin, and the kids of Eden.

18.01.2022 Im a proud supporter of Australian seafarers. As an island nation, we should see more Red Ensigns flown on the open seas and end this governments damaging pol...icies which now mean less than half of one percent of our sea trade is carried by Australian ships. Being a seafarer is a dangerous and isolating job, and on this Merchant Navy Day, lets pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by our merchant seafarers. See more

15.01.2022 Today we commemorate the heroic actions of Waterside Workers’ Federation (WWF) members in Port Kembla, who refused to load pig iron bound for military productio...n in Japan onto the SS Dalfram in 1938. The military-backed regime in Japan had launched an invasion of China in 1937, and the WWF members took a stand against militarism and in solidarity with the Chinese people. Union historian Liam Byrne tells the story. You can read more on the ATUI’s history blog: https://www.atui.org.au/unio/0yvzc5r3utcit9u1p64lqg94w9pum3
