24.01.2022 ANNOUCEMENT/UPDATE DUE TO COVID-19 Hey everyone. It is with sad hearts that we have decided to postpone the deadline of the callout for submissions for Films fo...r Climate Action. This is because even though people can and have submitted works that are already created it is very difficult if not impossible for people to create new works in the coronavirus landscape. We plan to have a new submission date in September, and as we ramp up to this we will be contacting everyone again and putting out new information on social media. Stay tuned and stay safe. FILMS FOR CLIMATE ACTION CALLOUT Who we are We are a group of Australian professional filmmakers who are devastated by the losses from the bushfires, deeply concerned about the climate crisis, and angry at our governments denial and inaction. Film is a powerful medium that can heighten awareness, touch people emotionally and inspire them to act. We want to use our artform as a way of responding to the crisis. Filmmakers involved include: Lucy Paplinska, Sarah Barton, Liz Burke Fiona Cochrane, Marsha Emerman, Catherine Gough-Brady, Lisa Horler, Nicole Ma, Kim Munro, Shannon Owen, Roslyn Walker. Callout We are seeking short films from Australian filmmakers that respond to and interact with the climate crisis. You can follow our facebook page here: @Films4ClimateAction The subject matter and making of the films is entirely in your hands. Sorry, we dont have funds available to cover your costs. The entire venture is voluntary and if any profits are made they will be donated to environmental organisations. Distribution We intend to promote the films that are part of this project and find multiple methods of distribution. These may include being housed on a stand alone website as a series of discrete shorts, and/or being edited into a feature film for theatrical, streaming, and other modes of distribution. We envisage potential exhibitors may take up all, or some of the films. Key dates for 2020 March 31: Expression of interest due August 1: Delivery of final cut of your film September 22 (equinox): initial release date of films online Expression of Interest Australian filmmakers can submit a short film theyve already completed, or an idea for a new film. Please submit a link to a copy of an existing film (up to 8 mins) or submit a 150 word summary of the film you intend to make. You can submit more than one film. We will be curating the films on the website, so we cant guarantee you film will be selected. You can also make your, or your organisations, archives available for others to use. In that case please send us a short precis of the type of footage you have. Please email your EOI to: [email protected] Film Specs Duration: Up to 8 mins (slightly longer will be considered on a case by case basis) We are open to all types of video representations and responses to the climate crisis, especially in Australia. Your film can be personal, poetic, animated, a drama, a documentary, essentially it can be any genre. Your film can contain stories of grief, hope, activism, or not be story-driven at all. Delivery will be a digital file. We will contact you with more information regarding this. Please consider using sustainable filming practices: https://cmsimpact.org//code-best-practices-sustainable-fi/ Copyright - You will need to own or have cleared all underlying copyright in the work. We ask for non-exclusive rights: CC - Attribution-NoDerivatives

21.01.2022 It was pre-COVID that I recorded the aspirations of these FNQ artists and arts workers. Nothings changed, they still want to be acknowledged with a dedicated arts worker training program. IACA is pushing through to find the resources to give their members what they want. #cherish This is the video link: https://iaca.com.au/news/arts-worker-training

19.01.2022 Submissions open! An opportunity to add your rural/remote experience to the national narrative. Editor Rick Morton says: ‘I think anyone who has spent formative... years in the country has a secret. It might be a good one, or a dark one, and in most cases it resembles nothing of our national myth. I want to know what your secret is.’ Submissions from First Nations writers, writers of colour, writers with a disability and writers with a migrant background - encouraged. See more

16.01.2022 Growing up, I didnt see women like me to look up to. I didnt see women of colour, Arab or Muslim women in positions of leadership or in the media or politics.... Women are still absent from a lot of these platforms. Women of all backgrounds have found immense empowerment in hearing my story and seeing me take on platforms that once seemed impossible. Positions of power, influence and leadership need to accurately reflect our communities, and I am on a journey to make that happen.
