25.01.2022 Have you felt the discomfort of heartburn? A burning pain in your chest and upwards along your breastbone; a pain that worsens when you lie down or bend over; a horrible bitter taste in your mouth? It’s not pleasant and really can feel like fire in your chest! Trust me I’ve been there. As a young adult, I suffered with chronic heartburn symptoms, which kept me awake at night or, at best, had me sleeping in a sitting position (my poor neck!). Medication was not helpful ...for me and I didn’t want a life-long relationship with Mylanta, so I had to find natural, effective ways to manage the symptoms and heal my body and digestion. The pain of heartburn can be caused by a variety of issues, like acid reflux, GERD, stomach ulcers and gastroparesis. There are things you can do to ease heartburn, naturally. 25.01.2022 Are you getting enough Vitamin C in your diet? Vitamin C supports immunity, development of collagen and boosts absorption of iron. People aged over 19 yea...rs old should be having 45mg of Vitamin C per day. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding your requirements are higher. This can be easily reached by eating just one medium orange, which on average contains around 84mg. But if oranges don’t tickle your fancy, then you can also get Vitamin C from a range of other fruit and veg. Check out our list and the average serve for each.

24.01.2022 Are you properly chewing your food? Think about this If you don’t chew your food properly, you’re leaving your stomach to try process bigger chunks of food. The digestive enzymes produced by your stomach which break down food chunks have less opportunity to work efficiently if those un-chewed particles of food are too big. If food is not broken down properly in the early phase of digestion, your small intestine has less opportunity to absorb every last drop of nutrients ...it can from that food. In short, you could be wasting your digestive energy eating that delicious meal you prepared if your body can’t take the nutrients from it that it needs! 19.01.2022 What motivates you to create home-cooked meals? Do you need to take a moment to find or be reminded of your motivation? My inspiration and desire to cook stems from many happy memories of times spent in the kitchen with my loving and wonderful family, whether that be for a simple weeknight dinner or a much more intense big fat Greek wedding like event! I bring those memories, experience and love back into my own kitchen where I can show others my love and appreciation o...f them through the food I create. Admittedly, not all creations go to plan and my husband has earnt the name guinea pig thanks to his willingness to try everything I plate up. But that’s just part of the fun! I encourage you to think about what motivates you to get into the kitchen and bring more of that into your life, mind and heart. Engage with your loved ones too invite them over for a baking day, a shared outdoor lunch on a sunny day, or even a coffee spent sitting across the breakfast bar. Activities like this are food for the soul, and when you feed the soul you will likely find the motivation to create nourishing, ‘made with love’ food for your body. Need more inspiration? 19.01.2022 I’m proud of us! For a few years now, I’ve owned and used reusable produce bags every week when I do my grocery shopping. When I think of the amount of plastic bags Nic Mavrogiannis and I have saved from being thrown into landfill, well... I’m proud of us! [Quick estimate: (6 produce bags used each week x 52 weeks) x 2 years = 624 plastic bags not used!]... Using reusable produce bags is a small, achievable activity that I do to achieve a greater goal that I’ve set for myself. How do you set goals for yourself? Do you use a particular method? 13.01.2022 How do you set goals for yourself? Many people make a broad, well-meaning statement without a real plan as to how the goal is going to be achieved. 04.01.2022 Stress can wreak havoc on our nervous system and our hormones. Stressful events can be big and obvious, like the death of a loved one, a relationship breakdown, or facing physical or emotional abuse. But less obvious stressors can equally have a negative impact on your health, especially if they go unchecked for a long time. For example, not sleeping enough, working long hours, skipping meals and taking care of others ahead of yourself. Your personal response to stress (a...nd how stress represents in and outside of your body) will generally be different to the response of others. But the common theme remains unless you start to recognise what’s not supporting your wellbeing, you can’t change the path you are walking. As a Health Coach, I can work with you to identify causes of stress and support you to make achievable, sustainable changes to remove those (big and small) stressors in your life that are causing you physical and/or emotional grief.
