23.01.2022 Hey friends! This happened this week. This is an example how to talk to dialect coaches in media! Skip to the 1:00:00 mark :-D Me and my colleague Melissa Bruder having a chat with Sarah. ... (caveat: most times I wanted to comment I couldn't, and I had a lot of notes and things I wanted to add but could't, but this is media and I understand. AND this was NOTHING like the last debacle of "Hughesy..." This was GOOOOOD.)

20.01.2022 Nothing like coaching dialect amongst the fresh produce!

20.01.2022 Here's an article I wrote for the stars at StageMilk. Give it some love! Questions welcome!

19.01.2022 Hi there accent and dialect buffs! I give you the gift of a real life Pru / Trude - otherwise known as the classic dialect of wealthy Melbournites. Seriously this is fantastic.

16.01.2022 Even the small jobs can be some of the best. Five European languages all spoken in one page of dialogue and two marvellous actors hungry to learn and keen to rise to the challenge. Come along to "The Last Wife" by Kate Hennig at the Ensemble to hear a smattering of Latin, Italian, French, Spanish, and a rogue bit of Welsh amongst the rest of the witty Tudor intrigue! https://www.ensemble.com.au/shows/the-last-wife/

15.01.2022 So this is another thing which happened. I loved going so deep into this. With thanks to Patrick Lenton and Junkee for the opportunity! I'm currently into season 4 of this wonderful show now thanks to this. https://junkee.com/moira-rose-accent-schitts-creek/208329

14.01.2022 Hi actor friends! I'd previously posted about this research project but at the time only thought I could use NIDA students or graduates. I have now been given clearance to use ANYONE. Most preferably actors, but if you have an interest in learning an American dialect that's the only main criteria, in effect. For context, I’m currently in the process of converting my Graduate Diploma in Voice from 2008 to a Masters of Fine Arts and as part of that I’m required to conduct a fo...rmal research project, which is where all you lovely people come in! The project examines how actors can better achieve an authentic General American accent through tools used in Second Language Acquisition and I am seeking expressions of interest from any actors out there. Participation would involve one to two 30-40 minute group sessions in late January or early Feb 2019 at NIDA. The commitment would be minimal, but it will be of benefit to all participants and, it is hoped, to future research and understanding about the teaching and learning of dialect for actors. Consider the incentive 1-2 free teaching sessions on your American accent! For the last 10 years I have worked as a voice teacher both here in Australia and in the United States (including a stint at UNC Chapel Hill in North Carolina and with Playmakers Repertory Company in 2017) and have specialised in teaching accent and dialect to actors. If you are an actor looking to improve their General American accent please send me a PM or email me at: [email protected] Also please feel free to contact me with any questions about the research you may have, and feel free to share with any other actors you know! Thank you so much in advance!

12.01.2022 So this is super interesting for us voice and dialect folks, and has a big teaching possibility for all of us actors as well. I'll post about it in the comments if this gets enough likes/comments! Is Grover saying: "That's a f?&%ing excellent idea." OR, is he saying "That sounds like an excellent idea."

11.01.2022 Watching a run of a show in the rehearsal room so close to opening is always a gift. Especially seeing that the marvelous cast have done such great work integrating the dialect notes and guidance already given into everything else they have to do to bring the show to life. "Luna Gale" by Rebecca Gilman at the Ensemble Theatre opens Sept 7th. Directed by Susanna Dowling.

06.01.2022 I love how varied my work is. My colleague and dear friend Natasha McNamara was called away for a night so she invited me to step into her shoes for a wonderful and inspiring night working with the lovely US accent students at TAFTA!

02.01.2022 So it seems the secret is out. I appeared on "Hughesy, We Have a Problem," hoping to help Urzila Carlson with her Australian accent. All she needed was to become aware of the front vowels which are raised in the South African and New Zealand accents. Given one-on-one time this would have been easy! Unfortunately we didn't get to deal too much with that because Kyle Sandilands was in the room and was more interested in culturally inappropriate stereotypes and so forth. ... Long story short, I did this thing and I miraculously came out looking good,.God bless the editors and post-people!!!!! Enjoy!
