16.01.2022 Snail Bait Poisoning in Dogs. Metaldehyde is the toxin used in snail pellets and very little is required to cause signs of poisoning in dogs; less than a teaspoon per 5kgs of body weight. This is young Franklin whose life was saved when his observant owner saw him get into a box of snail pellets at his neighbours property. Signs of poisoning begin quickly after consumption and start with anxious twitching that progresses to seizures and potentially to death. We are so thankful we could make Franklin vomit the entire contents of his stomach before the toxin had time to take effect. Franklin continues to be his bright and active self and his lovely owners were also grateful. #metaldehydetoxicityindogs #snailpelletsarepoison #northperthvet #savingdogslives #toxicityindogs #vetlife

11.01.2022 Brave Daisy was attacked by another dog and sustained multiple dog bite wounds. Here she is at one of her recheck exams. I think it is super important to accept that not all dogs like to socialise with other dogs. While we always recommend appropriate socialisation of puppies between the ages of 7 and 17 weeks of age it is necessary to accept whether your dog belongs in a busy dog park or whether he or she is happier and calmer away from those environments. And if we take our... dogs to the park we should be paying attention to their behaviour and be able to call them away from a potentially dangerous situation. Most of my clients know that I lost my own dog, Snoopy at a dog park when a much larger dog bit him and punctured his lung. He died and every time I treat a patient with dog bite injuries the heartbreaking memory of his loss comes back. Please, everyone, be alert and be careful. Dog parks can be so fun and great but they can also be dangerous. Since this photo was taken Daisy has made a full recovery. #dogbitewounds #northperthvets #vetlife See more

06.01.2022 BEWARE OF OOSHIES! This adorable little rascal, Sadie the 7kg Golden retriever pup came in this morning having ingested an ooshie. Thankfully, her owners saw this happen and bought her in straight away. We induced vomiting and problem solved! Had this toy entered the small intestine a surgery would have been required to remove it. What a good result. Sadie also received so many cuddles during her visit. #vetlife #toyingestion #puppieswillbepuppies #northperthvets #perthpets

06.01.2022 This was my yesterday. For those who see me today, I'm puffy eyed and grieving but thankful she was mine. I think today's the day. You look so tired and sad and withdrawn. The thought of you hurting is too much to bear and yet the thought of not having you here is breaking my heart and I can't stop my tears. I can't imagine you not here with me. I can't imagine a day of coming home and not hearing your bark... until you realise that it's me. I can't imagine not hearing you ...get up to drink or go outside at night, I will be listening for your sounds even when you're gone and I will miss your smell. Each night you would visit my children's room and sleep there for awhile. You gave them protection and I will be forever grateful. I love you. My Ele, you were a comfort, a saviour, my friend and companion, you were my help, my therapy, my constant for the past 12 years and I'm going to miss you. I know what I tell so many others at this time, that you lived a wonderful life, that you were loved and that this is now the kindest gift to give you but I don't know how life will be without you. My dear old Ele, boxer dog, I think the day is here but you will never be forgotten, you leave behind so many memories and I can only now thank you for being such a big and important part of my family. I love you to the moon and back a million times and forever. Good night Ele. 27/6/2010 - 14/3/2021. See more
