24.01.2022 Nyngan Show Art Entries I'd like to encourage all of Nyngan Art Room's students to consider entering an artwork into the show coming up next weekend. It is free to enter in the Junior section and a fantastic way to showcase the local talent! I would love to help students prepare their work for the show and I will be providing some backing board and other materials to hang artworks appropriately (enough for one A4 artwork each student). So this coming week, I ask that eve...ryone come to art classes prepared by bringing along either: An artwork they would like to continue, finish, get a little guidance on, etc. Perhaps one they started in our art class or have done at home or school. Even better, bring a selection of artworks and we can work together to pick out an entry! If they haven't got anything they'd like to enter into the show, that's ok! We can work on something new in class this week. And of course, there's no pressure to enter if they don't want to. I will have an activity ready for any students who don't want to work on show entries. I will have the usual range of art materials available, including pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels, charcoal, watercolour paints and acrylic paints. I will send out another reminder early this week to remind students to bring their artworks to class.

16.01.2022 I wonder if the artists enjoyed this week's lesson as much as I did? I really hope so! Using acrylic paint on black paper, we learnt how some simple brush techniques can form a wide range of flowers and leaves. Working on black paper teaches us to paint in reverse, painting in the highlights, not the shadows. Some students mentioned they are also learning to paint flowers at school and they continued refining those skills this week at Nyngan Art Room. I was very impressed ...with how everyone interpreted the lesson in different ways and how beautifully unique each artwork became! 07.01.2022 Apologies for the late weekly update everyone! Last week at Nyngan Art Room students drew from 3D animal models (aka, toys!). Learning to break down the chosen subject into simple shapes and lines is a great way to start a drawing and gives the artist a deeper understanding of the mechanics and anatomy of the animal. We also welcomed some new students who did brilliantly. Awesome work everyone, as always!... Laura
